God damn that was one stellar voice performance by the Mantid ! props to whomever voiced him and also to those in charge of the effects ! I really appreciate the amount of worldbuilding and lore and how much care was given to them back then, I love MoP for these reason more then gameplay itself !
Mists of Pandaria was underrated and I hate that people pretended to hate it so much while it was live. It arguably had some of the best writing out of most of the expansions. Also... I figured Scythid were just regular ass animals, seeing as they were only present in maybe 1/5 of the entire map of Dragonflight lol. I spent so long in the bad fanfiction that was Shadowlands that I forgot to associate bugs with the Old Gods.
I just feel like what people remember the most about MoP was how homogenised and samey all the classes got with all the changes along with how incredibly unbalanced PvP was. Oh and also pandas. Overall the expansion was actually pretty good. Same with WoD, Warlords is imo a great expansion just let down by its unfulfilled promises and cut content. The leveling experience in WoD is probably the best expansion ever released and it also has probably the best raid ever put out in Blackrock Foundry. Hellfire Citadel is also an all time great raid.
@@Noobie2k7 Idk I thought the classes themselves weren't that bad off (PVE-wise since I don't like PVP and can't speak much on it). The talent system made me unhappy, and I will give credit to people complaining about that. The absence of actual builds was a very real issue. WoD was definitely a massive blow for cut content though, you're right. We were supposed to fight orcs, not demons. Blackrock Foundry was so damn cool in both design and execution, absolutely. I'm glad I'm not the only one that had positive feelings for portions of that expansion.
Except garrosh. I mean they really did the horde too dirty and that was 50% of their base. The bombing of the ramirez was bad itself and t was made worse.
@@badrinath5306 Garrosh was never ready to lead, he was too brash and bloodthirsty. Thrall made a huge mistake the day he gave the reins to Garrosh. and when even the Horde wouldnt go along with his shit, he formed his own Horde and tried to eradicate us all. for a time i thought that Garrosh had honor, but he showed us that he had inherited a lot of the bad blood that enslaved his father.
As i was majorly disappointed in Cata, when MoP got released i quickly jumped on the bandwagon of hate, but learned to love it. It is actually the last expansion i played through completely and can honestly say it is one of the best WoW experiences i got.
I was one of those people who got really invested in the mantid as a concept and was sad when they never really got explored further. Particularly the paragon Kil'ruk's dying words of "we will meet again" always got me theorizing where and when we would see the paragons again, whether it would be in often hinted at Nya'lotha or the Shadowlands. Unfortunately both have come and gone and these words have still yet to be followed up on.
The Mantid were easily one of my favorite races lore wise that have ever been added to WoW. So happy to see a video on them! I was so sad when we had to kill the Paragons in the Siege of Orgrimmar but like they said…we mantid serve a purpose far greater than theirs or their gods. On the real though, it is insane that the Pandaren managed to live in a land dominated by 3 of the strongest races that possibly ever lived on Azeroth (mogu/mantid/Zandalari). The story of the Shado-Pan is also extremely badass.
The mantid are one of my all-time favorite races from WoW, and I loved questing with and getting to know the Paragons with their different personalities. They were one of the few examples I enjoyed them both as enemies to slaughter or allies to help. And thus, I was so upset when the Paragons became raid bosses; yes, they were psychotic, but they were my friends too! In my head canon I saw the bow that drops from them as a parting gift to my hunter who quested with them, and to this day she still proudly wears the title Wakener. Thank you for this video covering them and reminding me of the good times I had with them and the fan fiction I wrote about them!
It's really funny since they even fully admit that they are NOT your friends - come the return of the Old God's they're happy to return to their old worship, that being said they hope you heed their warning and join them, as helpful as you've been for sustaining their race. So when they see you in that raid it's a mix of disappointment and understanding - you were given that choice and you've made that choice, so it's the Wakener versus the very Paragons he rescued - insects you got to know but alas know they knew fully well it would come to blows eventually. And that's what I love about the Mantid. They're unapologetic about their origins but pragmatic in the current age. If only BFA capitalized on potential schism and concerns after the tragedy of their empire during MoP...
N’zoth really should have had his own expansion where we saw the rise of all the old gods’ worshippers, like mantids, assaulting the Alliance and the Horde on all sides.
I didn't play MoP, but as I came back to the game for WoD and leveled through the Dread Wastes I ended up being really interested in the klaxxi stuff and returned later to finish the reputation (for the mount) but I loved their story too. The old god reveal was some cool shit. Really hope to see them again, definitely one of my favorite races/factions.
To be totally honest a whole mantid themed expansion would be cool. They could do some shit like the zerg in SC, or it would be neat to play with them as a playable race.
Thank you for doing a video on the Mantid! They’re my favorite race in WoW and I’ve gotten 4 characters fully to exalted with them and I plan to do more. I really hope they’re utilized if the old gods come back up, and Kil’ruk has a line about meeting us again, maybe the Paragons could be revived 👀 I’d love to see them again, even if it is as tragic raid bosses.
Hey Platinum! Something you overlooked about their role in Visions of N’zoth! After N’zoth emerged he resurrected the slain Klaxxi and empowered them with the void. We never actually fight the Klaxxi however and presumably they’re still in the Dread Wastes
I grinded their reputation to exalted and got my Amber Scorpion mount when that content was still current and it was one of the few factions where I actually enjoyed doing the daily quests.
One of the best memories i have in wow was exploring this gaint wall in pandaria. and falling off of it. i didnt know where the exit was, nor did i have any quests here. i was underleveld and my hearthstone was on cooldown. didnt know any1 who could teleport me, nor did i have the items for it yet. so i moved south, trying too find the gate. eventualy while running from some mobs i came across a cave where one of the paragons was held. i freed him and he led me too the klaxxi`s base, where i finaly found a flightmaster! in thanks, they became the only rep i raised too exalted in all of MoP ^^
I started my journey during MoP and I loved the expansion for the most part. The Klaxxi were my first reputation grind since I got quite invested in the Lore behind them and wanted to know more, The Mantis and Mogu were very interesting and well implemented unfortunately they were yet another race to be forgotten and left behind. I'm curious if they will make a retcon regarding N'zoth or Y'sharaj(?) and give the Mantis another chance to shine.
Logically they´re probably in absolute shambles, massive losses during MoP with the Sha of Fear/Paragons siding with Garrosh, and then mere years later their relatively fresh Empress gets put down during the Nzoth incursions where they threw their lot in again. People forget that new Empress you get into power during MoP was a worldboss at the end of BFA.
Bruh, I'll bet money Le'shin knew damn well the mantid would fly over the wall. He's the Thunder King. Having an entire army of bugs flying in the air, pretty much made them easy targets for him to obliterate. So at least while he was around, it wasn't that bad an idea.
More videos please. Your videos are insightful, drawing and awsome as far as content and how playful and entertaining they are to me and other viewers I'm almost certain. Thank you for your content.
This is a great video, i have always loved these bug guys since i returned to WoW durning MoP and its great to see the lore all in one place. keep up the great work
It always gave me a smile when entering the paragons fight in SoO and then recognizing the wakener. All those dailies from early on gave me a slight nostalgia.
I am so pleased you made a video about the Mantid! I have been thinking about them so much recently because funnily enough, I had this really clear memory of interacting with insect/humanoid entities somewhere and I could not for the life of me remember where - then I see this video! I really wanted to find them again and now I have. I'm a sort of casual player with some breaks in between playing times so I sort of forgot their name (so your video title is apparently correct) but I had such a strong idea that they definitely existed ha!
I said before Warcraft movie was released, I've said it many times since and I will keep saying it! Imagine if there was a TV Series based on Warcraft Lore. Heck, we could get multiple shows/spin offs focusing on different races/factions/time periods/continents etc.. etc..
@@MoonTurky Yeah, it's not like everything is set in stones and nothing can be changed when adopting to a live action show. We are talking about characters here, their journey can (and almost every time) be changed for a movie or tv show. Heck Blizz retcons their own stuff within the game every few years.
The Mantid are one of my very fave factions. Pandaria's lore is underrated as it is, but these guys were especially awesome The first faction in Pandaria I got to Exalted for the title, iirc This Wakener would've totally joined them
Imagine that due to the mantids' increase of strength after each swarm that a paragon wakes up to find, he's only as strong as your average foot soldier
Man I love MoP lore, it was so cool to bring back Y'shaarj in form of 7 different beings and actually kill them one after another throughout the expansion. It gave lot of the content a nice continuation and more investment than say the current last boss of Abberus raid who's name i can't even remember, and he's seemingly communicating/drawing power from some old gods which should be pretty damn exciting, yet i'd rather fight another Sha or Sha-controlled mantid.
The Mantid stand out to me as as Warcraft villains in that they truly feel like a noble adversary. They honor your help to them but make it clear where their allegiances lie and warn you that they WILL stand against you when the time comes. And when that time came and were defeated, they praise your valor for being willing to fighr the battle they warned you against.
i very much remember them, i started in MOP, not even a teen yet and i loved them lol, my paladin (the chr i made at that time) is still transmogged as he was when i got exalted with them, he still uses a aber sword for his apperance, and he rides on their aber mount if we are on the ground (ofc he has their tabard aswell) i personally think they are a very cool race
MoP is probably my top, maybe second, expansion. The mantid and Klaxxi were so awesome and I enjoyed following their story and eventually becoming their enemy. I'm with yah on being upset at their lack of additional use.
Considering that the visage form of Iridikron the madeup new earth dragon villain.... is a Qiraji bug person; I think we will see more of the bug people. Maybe not the mantid necessarily, but the nerubians and qiraji could return.
Surprisingly, the mantid are great herb farmers. Although they love to haggle prices, their unique strains native to Townlong Steppes really pack a punch! 🌿🌿🌿
So, we have: - Nerubian 2.0: more civilized, but still evil. - Related to an evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 - They try to save their race, but at the same time they want us dead (even though we help them) - They are ungrateful: joining the Horde of a tyrannical warlord even though we are "allies" (rare Mantid moment in the Horde) - They wonder why we kill them when they are the ones who can't seem to stop worshiping the evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 (makes the Nerubian look like true heroes among all the insect tribes since they were not influenced by dark whispers) - They proceed to be evil again as if they didn't learn their lesson.
Mogu and Mantid remain the only new enemy factions that were added to WoW instead of riding on the RTS's coattails that felt like they could really stand on their own legs and were underutilized. Sucks that they never really made it out of the expansion - Leishen and the Mantid were super interesting. Wasn't a huge fan of Pandaria as a backdrop thematically, but the writing in it was far better than any other expansion before or after.
Man I remember starting when Pandaria was halfway there to the legion expansion, I specifically focused on the mantid beast tribe cause I really wanted their mount, and I of course achieved it, but it also made me really REALLY want a Mantid as a playable race, Bug people as a concept would be really fun to have, but sadly that was more then likely never going to happen, and it didn't. Still though I remember the Mantid fondly in my lackluster experience with WoW in general
The mantid never joined Garosh, they were just drawn to the heart of the old god. They were basically raiding Orgrimmar the same time the players were.
"They're territorial and aggressive" just reminds me of one of my favorite shitposts from the LOL subreddit, that had (among other stuff) "let's see how they updated the lore: 'he has a dark and mysterious past' damn, a solid 2 words above average, the lore team really worked overtime for this one" 😆 Anyway, as someone who knows about Mantid only very slightly less than about other races (they appeared in Hearthstone, and that's my main source of info - in fact, I went into this video expecting it to be a top 10 or however many of most forgotten villains, and ready to say that I know all/some from HS 😅), TLthis was really interesting insight, and well presented! 👍
It's pretty funny that they made them mantis-based, when they're CLEARLY meant to invoke the vibes of LOCUSTS (queen hierarchy from bees/ants notwithstanding)
I wonder how creepy it will be if we were to see Aqir Centipedes? The typical centipede can wrap itself around prey item, so this will be a huge disadvantage for player characters.
Going into Mists of Pandaria I thought I wouldnt like the Mantid and that they would just be a mindless enemy force, but after questing through their zones they became one of my favourite parts of the whole expansion. They were so unique among the other insectoid races that came before them and yes they had great voice acting too lol
This brings back fond memories of grinding these guys for hours and days and weeks :D I loved the Mantid. Even them becoming enemies made perfectly sense with the prior established lore and all... But, as is the way with Blizzard, they start something awesome, something incredible... and then they let it drop like somuch refuse -.- Every single time. I wont lie, in 8.3 I had enough of it - and I dont trust them not to be like that still.
Klaxxi is the only questline I remember from WoW. It was actually good. I played a ton of that game while slowly hating it more and more, mostly because most of my favorite people were hardcore into it and I enjoyed playing a 'bad' game with them more then something I preferred with strangers.
All the WoW bug villains tend to be forgotten about very quickly, despite them being some of the most unique and coolest of races. Cause they're "creepy bug people" it's easy to make them throwaway villains but I wish they would get some sort of redemption. The world of Warcraft (heh) has SO many cool races, and we'll never ever ever ever get to play as any of them :) Now go back to playing elf model # 6.
Because remaking gear to fit into the framing of these races does take a lot of time, which is why it took so long to have the ones we got in bfa and dragonflight
It does sadden me to see when unique races, characters, lore and more be slowly forgotten. Though on the flip side it brings a smile upon my face to see when Platinum makes another video shining some light on more lore of the Warcraft Universe.

And they're never going to be relevant again
I know people hated Dread Wastes, but I kind of liked it. It felt like being across enemy lines of a corrupted swarm. I dug it.
the Klaxxi stuff in MOP was so fun tbh, from their aesthetics, to their lore, it was all fun
I didn't play MoP, but as I came back to the game for WoD and leveled through the Dread Wastes I ended up being really interested in the klaxxi stuff and returned later to finish the reputation (for the mount) but I loved their story too. The old god reveal was some cool shit. Really hope to see them again, definitely one of my favorite races/factions.
yeah, we got to see them again in BFA during N'Zoth invasions in Pandaria, they were all over a mine that was there.
I really enjoyed their questlines in Pandaria.
To be totally honest a whole mantid themed expansion would be cool. They could do some shit like the zerg in SC, or it would be neat to play with them as a playable race.
They could make a cameo in TWW next expansion as fellows of the Nerubians.
The same as mogus or Vrykul as titan forged peoples.
Thank you for doing a video on the Mantid! They’re my favorite race in WoW and I’ve gotten 4 characters fully to exalted with them and I plan to do more.
I really hope they’re utilized if the old gods come back up, and Kil’ruk has a line about meeting us again, maybe the Paragons could be revived 👀
I’d love to see them again, even if it is as tragic raid bosses.
absolutely love the running gag of having an a-posing semi afk rogue as our character insert
Brings me joy each time platinum posts a new video. Always well written/animated.
Hey Platinum! Something you overlooked about their role in Visions of N’zoth! After N’zoth emerged he resurrected the slain Klaxxi and empowered them with the void. We never actually fight the Klaxxi however and presumably they’re still in the Dread Wastes
I'm glad you did a video on the Mantid! I love all of the Old God creations and followers.
The story of the Mantid is one of my favorites in all of WoW, it’s such a deeply interesting storyline
I grinded their reputation to exalted and got my Amber Scorpion mount when that content was still current and it was one of the few factions where I actually enjoyed doing the daily quests.
same
One of the best memories i have in wow was exploring this gaint wall in pandaria.
and falling off of it.
i didnt know where the exit was, nor did i have any quests here. i was underleveld and my hearthstone was on cooldown. didnt know any1 who could teleport me, nor did i have the items for it yet.
so i moved south, trying too find the gate. eventualy while running from some mobs i came across a cave where one of the paragons was held. i freed him and he led me too the klaxxi`s base, where i finaly found a flightmaster!
in thanks, they became the only rep i raised too exalted in all of MoP ^^
Yes please, more of this please. Seeing more of the races of Azeroth makes it seem so much more special unlike focusing on the horde or alliance stuff
I adore both them and the nerubians, two of my favourite fantasy races with awesome and unique lore.
Can't wait to revisit this in MOP classic where Zvardikuz can use his Corrupted Ashbringer
Bruh, I'll bet money Le'shin knew damn well the mantid would fly over the wall. He's the Thunder King. Having an entire army of bugs flying in the air, pretty much made them easy targets for him to obliterate. So at least while he was around, it wasn't that bad an idea.
I still use Kil'ruk's furious blade as my one-handed sword mog to this day.
Man the title made me think this was going to be a whole list and I was really curious how many villains everyone actually forgot about.
The Klaxxi was my favorite rep grind in mop. I appreciated how they acknowledge what you do for them, but still say they will fight you.
The Klaxxi are dope, I loved doing their dailies. Freeing the Paragon's was super fun.
Thank you so much for making this video. Never thought my favorite faction would get a highlight like this.
Great video as always, glad to see WoW lore videos especially just random stuff like this! Keep it up man!
Didn't play MoP but man, this lore is great! Thanks for putting this together Plat!
I haven't forgotten. Mists remains as my favorite expansion
As always, your content is excellent and brings a jolt of joy whenever I get notified of a new upload!
Yessss..
The mantid are one of my all time favorite races in all of WoW, they are a marvelous expansion upon the Aqir alongside Nerubians and Qiraji.
I said before Warcraft movie was released, I've said it many times since and I will keep saying it!
Imagine if there was a TV Series based on Warcraft Lore. Heck, we could get multiple shows/spin offs focusing on different races/factions/time periods/continents etc.. etc..
Nightmare, imagine trying to make a show out of the most nonsensical stupid lore ever made, good luck lmao
@@MoonTurky Yeah, it's not like everything is set in stones and nothing can be changed when adopting to a live action show. We are talking about characters here, their journey can (and almost every time) be changed for a movie or tv show. Heck Blizz retcons their own stuff within the game every few years.
Saurok from Pandaria were also cool. Not as fleshed out as Mantid, but still a great backstory and culture that barely anyone knows.
The Mantid are one of my very fave factions. Pandaria's lore is underrated as it is, but these guys were especially awesome
The first faction in Pandaria I got to Exalted for the title, iirc
This Wakener would've totally joined them
Imagine that due to the mantids' increase of strength after each swarm that a paragon wakes up to find, he's only as strong as your average foot soldier
That was beautiful.😢 10/10 a must see. Would watch again🙂
Always a pleasure to watch ur new vids ^.^
I really love these videos, always gotta watch them
2:52 was an amazing visual gag thanks for that Platinum
Man I love MoP lore, it was so cool to bring back Y'shaarj in form of 7 different beings and actually kill them one after another throughout the expansion. It gave lot of the content a nice continuation and more investment than say the current last boss of Abberus raid who's name i can't even remember, and he's seemingly communicating/drawing power from some old gods which should be pretty damn exciting, yet i'd rather fight another Sha or Sha-controlled mantid.
I picked the right minute to check youtube, keep up the great content!
i wish blizzard or someone hire you to make a 2 hour wow movie man ur videos rock i need more lore xD
I love the mantid
Would have been cool if platinum talked about the different paragons and their stories
Nice , I always love how we tried to save the Mantis instead of destroying them like the AQ
This was really cool info, thank you!
thanks for this :) was interesting to learn more about mantid. my main is named in mantid style.
I never forget! Probably one of my favorite races introduced in Pandaria - next to the Pandaren and Mogu!
These videos have become my only form of contact with the Warcraft franchise
i very much remember them, i started in MOP, not even a teen yet and i loved them lol, my paladin (the chr i made at that time) is still transmogged as he was when i got exalted with them, he still uses a aber sword for his apperance, and he rides on their aber mount if we are on the ground (ofc he has their tabard aswell) i personally think they are a very cool race
They would make the perfect playable insect race
Surprisingly, the mantid are great herb farmers. Although they love to haggle prices, their unique strains native to Townlong Steppes really pack a punch! 🌿🌿🌿
So, we have:
- Nerubian 2.0: more civilized, but still evil.
- Related to an evil entity related to Old God: Number #364
- They try to save their race, but at the same time they want us dead (even though we help them)
- They are ungrateful: joining the Horde of a tyrannical warlord even though we are "allies" (rare Mantid moment in the Horde)
- They wonder why we kill them when they are the ones who can't seem to stop worshiping the evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 (makes the Nerubian look like true heroes among all the insect tribes since they were not influenced by dark whispers)
- They proceed to be evil again as if they didn't learn their lesson.
It was doomed since the faction war was happening.
Yeah, I remember them from MoP. Super cool faction. Great video.
Always such splendid voice acting and tidbits of juicy info ❤
mantid were so cool. iv gone back to level alts there a few times just because i like the zone and hanging out with the bugs.
Gotta Love another Platinum Wow Vid, so Good! 👍
*noms on Lore* hmm thats some Good Lore.
What a great video, keep the work
Good to see ya alive mate ;)
The mantid never joined Garosh, they were just drawn to the heart of the old god. They were basically raiding Orgrimmar the same time the players were.
5:56 misspelt have
D- see me after class
Great video
I didn't forget! I don't play WoW anymore but even I remember these bug humanoids fondly. I got Exalted rep with the Klaxxi on my worgen boomkin ❤️
I remember the “oh crap” moment I had when they mentioned their “sister kingdoms”, telling you exactly who they are and what they want.
Man! So many dope villains just dropped, the Yaungol, Quillboar (but they came back in BFA) more forgotten villains!
so true, mantid are so interesting, I've never been actually so interested in a race of wow before, actually intriguing finding out about their story
Always makes my day better when theres a new Platinum wow video
Honestly, between the Mantid, the Mogu and the Sha as a whole, Pandaria has some really strong foes.
When MoP was current i mained Klaxxi and never took that tabard off. They were the coolest!
no one cares
"They're territorial and aggressive" just reminds me of one of my favorite shitposts from the LOL subreddit, that had (among other stuff) "let's see how they updated the lore: 'he has a dark and mysterious past' damn, a solid 2 words above average, the lore team really worked overtime for this one" 😆
Anyway, as someone who knows about Mantid only very slightly less than about other races (they appeared in Hearthstone, and that's my main source of info - in fact, I went into this video expecting it to be a top 10 or however many of most forgotten villains, and ready to say that I know all/some from HS 😅), TLthis was really interesting insight, and well presented! 👍
I really hope some day in the far future we will be able to play as Mantid.
But, as is the way with Blizzard, they start something awesome, something incredible... and then they let it drop like somuch refuse -.-
Every
single
time.
The world of Warcraft (heh) has SO many cool races, and we'll never ever ever ever get to play as any of them :)
Now go back to playing elf model # 6.
Because remaking gear to fit into the framing of these races does take a lot of time, which is why it took so long to have the ones we got in bfa and dragonflight
@@BeyondDaX Right. And it's not like Blizzard has the resources to do this, either. They're a struggling small indie company after all.
@@CadaverJunky8 Yeah, struggling to fill in Bobby's and activisions' pockets.
