- Is Driving a CHEAP Chinese SUV in Outback Australia a TERRIBLE IDEA??
Arguably, the biggest fear Aussies have about their cars is reliability. And let's be honest: Chinese brands have a bad reputation in Australia because of issues in the mid-2000s.
But a decade later, can you trust a Chinese SUV? Well, join me on my rural Australia drive - out on some dangerous remote roads with no phone reception - to see if the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro can handle the Aussie outback!

Here at CarSauce, we review every new car on the market. We are a community of sauce givers and we'd love for you to subscribe and join our community!
We give every car "the sauce", test their 0-100km/h, and see whether or not they are worth purchasing and spending your hard-earned cash on.
From time to time, we'll also buy a weird and wacky car and take you on the journey with me! We release videos every Sunday 5pm AEST / AEDT with the latest new car reviews!
Your feedback is important, so if you want to see us do something new or something you would like me to change let me know! Got a question for me? Leave it in the comments! I try and respond to them all! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
China has a lot more different terrain, such as hills,.desert, mountains, snowy ..etc than Australia, I suppose their cars have all been designed and testes in those terrains already!!
in russia too. they are big on china cars.
They test them in Mohe, China , -28 in the winter.😅
Ok, yea we need more roadtrip videos in different cars. Just some different things to spice things up 😎
It is a bit different! Glad you liked it
@@CarSaucecan you review the jetour cars? Especially the T2 it looks nice AND it’s cheap
I’m not sure if there are jetour cars in Australia though
Love this format. It's like talking to someone who owns one not just a reviewer. Would love to see this format in an unpaid video.
Done!
I hear you, but they gotta eat.
Hey...I am not sure where you actually drove, but going past Ballarat is not exactly outback.
Hamilton is in the sticks too much agricultural ruined it. It's such a hole worst place I've lived. 20 years and still not a local 😅😂
i heard recently that chery will start following in the steps of kia, by testing and tuning all their future cars in australia, should bode well for all future chery vehicle
That’s awesome, hope they do this
Chery sells in Turkey like crazy, it's the no. 1 car seller recently. What's better is that they sell cars with DCT dual-clutch transmission it's much better than shitty CVT.
Full alloy spare!!?? Now that is very very very rare these days:)
I have the GWM Cannon x(Chinese) I drove from Dubbo to Brisbane 800kms today composed easy overtaking road trains 2 years strong and still impressive always surprises me
These cross country trips are gold in the car review world. Thanks Matt..
Come on- Melbourne to Hamilton is all main roads that are sealed. You'd need to deviate for those gravel sections. I used to do that trip regularly and my 1984 Holden Camira survived it many times back in the mid to late 1980's. I'm sure the roads are a lot better now.
He did mention that he deviated from the main roads
@vincentmothapa2421 it's the title "Cheap Chinese SUV in OUTBACK Australia... Can it SURVIVE ". Even the gravel roads were nice and smooth.
It was a disappointing "test" to drive it on essentially normal everyday roads. There was no "outback" driving at all. Any vehicle would survive the roads driven.
@@davidg5991 Fair point, I hear you. Maybe next time he'll take it to rougher roads
Really enjoyed this video format! Definitely wanna see more.
I’ll be honest I did enjoy this video over your usual banter with Jacob. You guys are both good just abit over the top with the back and forth with you guys.
Great format. So much more enjoyable and engaging 🎉
I wonder why geely is not yet entering your market. I think their okavango, azkarra, tugella, coolray, and monjaro can compete there. I personally own a Geely sedan and I chose it because of the better design, built, fit and finish among its other chinese rivals here. Tho i think Geely focuses more on the middle east, our current line up is a year behind from their latest offerings in china and the middle east.
Are you guys getting the chery sub brand jetour in australia? Good video as usual
G'day mate. Nice review. Appreciate your fair comments on Australia culture being a new country. We use to also have a great Holden vs Ford rivalry culture too but that's gone now. So does this Cherry come in a V8 and Manual?
Should have gone into a state forest in there snowy mountains. Far more challenging roads that even Subaru's a known excel on.
Next time!
On Easter Monday I drove my 10 year old Holden Cruze from Hamilton to Sydney. 13.5 hours.
Oh...and Hamilton isn't the outback mate.... It's just an outer Melbourne suburb really..... Go to Cameron's corner and back, then you can call it the outback....😅
Nice review. Great job. One observation, directed at several reviewers. I think it’s time to quit complaining about driver monitoring systems. Manufacturers don’t have a choice but to fit them now for 5 stars. So criticise ancap, not the car brand. Apart from that, excellent review.
Yes and no. I’m not mad it’s there, I’m annoyed it’s so poorly calibrated. Some brands, like BMW, have done a better job at making sure it recognises when you’re interacting with the infotainment display vs using your phone. Hope that makes sense 🫡
Nice explanation mate. Cheers
Nice vid. Hope you can turn the brightness down of the displays, must kill your night vision from the glare otherwise...
Did the Ultimate model just get a software upgrade recently? Mine doesn't have the option to disable the DMS Alarm.
Is that rippling headliner near sun visor a feature or is it some sort of visual artifact?
A meat pie is ALWAYS worth getting...at least until you eat it.
Ha I was driving down to Melbourne during that thunder storm wasn’t pleasant but at least arrived in Melbourne without any bugs on the car
"Outback" 😂😂 Really??
Yeah 😂 I would hardly call Ballarat to Hamilton outback, but shhh 🤫 Nothing to see here move along.
Its a softroader after all
1 of the BEST pies in Melb is from Charlies Kitchen in Laverton!
I drove my AU Falcon to Ayers Rock last year, aircon flat out the whole way and got 7.2 litres/100km.
And tbh I don't think many Cherys will do that after 23 years and 500000km.
Car clubbing was hilarious 😂
When will the phev and hybrid variant come to Australia waiting for review
Try the Harold Street Pie Shop in Wendouree next time, you wont regret it. Easy best pie in Ballarat and possibly Australia
I’m impressed with the design. Thumbs up Cherry.
Disco scene is a top 10 all time Car Sauce moment.
I like your style when reviewing cars !! Awesome🎉🎉 Wow , a full size spare, alloy wheel exact same like the ones on the car. Here in Québec Canada, if one day chinese cars gets here There Will be so much tariff taxes that they won't be cheap. Trying my best to write in your language.
Great video
HP will defo snag you at 115 on the Glenelg Highway, (trust me). Also Izzies Cafe in Dunkeld make a wicked in-house Vanilla Slice.
It's quite bad bc of my Haval Jolion, i now hardly pay attention on the highway and its now just a habit. It just drives itself down highways so so well that i never worry.
Makes driving more easy for longer journeys, I love it!
Roadtrip to see Jacob!!
when will the tiggo 8 pro coming to australia?
It's already there
min19:54 in awe of the sunset?
Where is the Outback? I just saw a bit of country driving....
Bourke is the outback but 1800kms is a bit far for the sauce 😂 Melb to hamilton is nice though. Beautiful Grampians ❤😊
Chery ? I thot that was infinity Logo lol
Hahhah thats my neighbourhood Bree Rd hahahahz i probs know your missus 😂
I like your performance
Seeing a AU rap star in the video😉
Nothing wrong with an Aussie Pie on a road trip. Just sayin'
Road trips are great in Australia, the space and sense of freedom.😅
Is that intro music there everytime you entering the car? Really?
You can turn it off.
"Cheap"
No footage of the "girlfriend"..... I call fiction.....😂
I do love watching your show, but did I hear you right, can it survive the Aussie outback and you drove from Melbourne to Hamilton in Victoria.
Well, I think I need to give you a little lesson on what and where the outback is. I know and i nearly live there, well, some people think it's the outback, Exmouth WA,1250k's north of Perth, stinking hot, been over 49c and this summer, weeks and weeks of over 40c everyday and no rain for 8 months.
But, the true outback really starts a few 100k's inland from Exmouth and I think you would die there. So, if you really want to test the Chery in the OUTBACK, start in Exmouth and head east, do the CSR, the Gunbarrel Hwy, good luck with that.
I found this is very entertaining to watch although I am not interested to the car lol
My GS300 cruising at 120klms uses 7.0ltr/100 and it’s a 2005 model ???
This is not a review. Need to go into a deeper outback like Melbourne to Perth
Haha i live in Hamilton 😅the roads are shocking!
Can I turn off start background music permanently 😂
8.5 l at 110 is not excellent at all
My 4wd xtrail gets 7.3l/100km at 130km/h
Bit too close to an Actual "Outback" $$ wise to bother for that sort of use.
4:18 56 Chev.
I'd be surprised if it doesn't break
Where is our Jacob!!!!!
Sunrise
Ldv-ahhhh logo
Imagine if Arsetralia could even make a vehicle like this….😂
We used to be able to make good vehicles here, but… the economy is in shambles.
We made vehicles that relied on government protection to be popular. They worked but we’re far from good.
@@whomcares3438 yeah nah, that's fair actually. I still weep for the loss of local industry though.
Yeah me too. At least we made something as a nation. Now we just make holes in the ground🤬
My car in Indonesia produk Chinese Perry good, l lake buy car Chinese in Australia to
Outback? Between Melbourne and Hamilton? Seriously? If you really want to test it in the outback, try taking it up the Birdsville Track, or across the Simpson Desert like Mitsubishi did with the Outlander PHEV. It would be very interesting to see how it holds up in that sort of environment.
cheaper car has panoramic sunroof ^^
These videos would be more relevant in 5 years when these Chinese cars aren't so new anymore
Nice use of clickbait, enough to get people to watch and engage, but not too much to piss people off.
My biggest concern with these kinds of cars is, if theres an upset… No parts for you. Then what?
I will take XUV 700 over cherry anyday.
The big unknown is how long they will last. Will the paint fade & plastic disintegrate? How long will parts be available for? I think to take on a Chinese car is quite the gamble and I bet depreciation is incredible...
You're worried about being banned from CZcams yet don't care about admitting to breaking the speed limit driving at 116 km/h.
First of all, why would I be worried about getting banned from CZcams LOL. Secondly, I’m not going 116km/h, I’m actually going 110km/h. 99% of speedometers are under calibrated so you don’t speed.
first
How about Mahindra xuv 700 or Scorpio n for almost same price and 6 or 7 seat option
The biggest thing i found terrible with this review is that you *CHOSE* vanilla coke.....🤮
Your a clown in a good way
The American manufacturers ignored the Japanese car invasion to their peril, the mainstream manufacturers better not ignore the Chinese car invasion
People don’t realise how many of these units the Chinese make just for their own market, so profits are made on numbers keeping their costs down
The more Chinese car reviews I see the more impressed I get
I have a small oven and fridge in my 4by so pies on tap😀
Yeah, nice ad.
He is a sell out
hmm both you and ReDriven have TERRIBLE in your thumbnails in vids posted at the same time
This needs to be gotten to the bottom of.
Are you suggesting that motoring journalists have some sort of psychic connection? Spooky
@@nathansmith6914 perhaps a terrible coincidence but I suspect something more sinister
@@justice4g you think he's cheating on Jacob?! With the redriven bloke? Interesting
@@nathansmith6914 he could have another daddy
My experience of a Chinese SUV in Indonesia several years ago was not good. Basic things like seat belts failed, and quality control was appalling. Hopefully they have improved a lot. I would not be buying one.
Several years ago, China exported next to zero cars. Last year, China was the world largest car exporter. Doubt China is freaking out because you aren't buying.
Quality was not good even 5 years ago. They are really levelling up now though.
You have gone really big on Chery since they sponsor you now.... :(
All the raving you have been doing over cheap junk, you have to expect the miserable experience. it's for highways 🛣 You can have all the gear in the car, but no testing on the "Outback you might end up dead Jack 🤠❗💯
