- If you are an X-Men fan, you surely had one hell of a time in the 90’s, courtesy of “X-Men: The Animated Series”. The show aired on Fox Kids, and had a successful five-year run due to its massive popularity. The series explored characters that we saw in the X-Men’s comic book lineup and it was in sync with the toys, games, and other fun collectibles that were available back in the day. It is one of the longest-running Marvel animated series. The insane popularity of the show prompted the makers to coax Disney into reviving it one more time. Yes, Ultimate Spider-Man did break the record about twenty years later, but this animated series will always be the introduction to Marvel for many young fans.
We also know that in any superhero series, the heroes are only as good as their opponents! In this X-Men series, the villains were top-notch and made life difficult for our protagonists. From the likes of Magneto to Apocalypse, the antagonists of “X-Men: The Animated Series” kept getting better. In this video, we have put together some of the meanest and most badass villains that the series has to offer and exploring the stories around them!
Credits - The Right-hand side of the thumbnail is an art by Boss logic! Where he used Brian Cranston as a base to create his own version of Mr. Sinister! Boss logic does a ton of splendid artwork on Pop culture and has a massive following in all his SM accounts! Definitely check his work! Absolute mad-lad he is! :)

This channel is the best
It is. I love the variety of topics. Horror movies, kids shows, genre shows like Suoernatural and Buffy. I have recommended this channel to my friends and they love the variety too. Keep kicking butt folks and keep up the awesome work!
This and Batman the Animated Series was a big part of my childhood
so true me too! they still reak of perfection!
Yes
And Spiderman the Animated Series
Superman: The Animated Series as well and also, X-Men: Evolution. Two great shows that defined my childhood along with the original X-Men and Batman: The Animated Series.
And spiderman, those three were the biggest
Apocalypse's voice in the animated series was great.
He is the best villain for me. He is just mega. He is my favourite in the live action movies as well. Soooo powerful its unreal.
As was his writing. His disses were epic!
I freaking love Apocalypse my favorite villain of all time!!!!!
Rogue's ass was my favorite part of the show
Best Apocalypse line. Some crazy genuis human doctor referred to him as mutant. He didn't like that one bit. His response.
Apocalypse: I am as far beyond mutants as they are beyond you.
I was like 16 thinking DAMN!
xmen, spiderman and batman animated series is what made me a fan back in the 90s and im a fan today. love marvel/dc both
Id even throw in Static shock, Superman TAS, and Gargoyles just for sprinkles of a classic 90s watch
Nightxblaze who will win the fight mr sinister ( marvel ) or dio ( jojo's bizarre adventure ) and why?
Also Spawn, Swat Cats, The Maxx etc. The 90s were fire n hype af
Me too the 90's were the shit man
@@ShadowProject01 Gargoyles do come to mind in the 90's saturdays mornings.
Every Saturday morning couldnt wait back in the day
Best X-Men EVER... Better than the live action movies, much better than the current comics run... this is the BEST X-Men shown, and should be the base of all X-Men material produced.
It's a shame we never got Mr Sinister or a good version of Apocalypse in the films.
I liked Oscar Isaac as apocalypse, but yea that one was mediocre, but great compared to dark Phoenix haha
Am glad they didn't do Mr sinister. As would of cocked it up. All the x men films were disappointing apart from first class and logan.
Am glad they didn't do Mr sinister. As would of cocked it up. All the x men films were disappointing apart from first class and logan.
I agree! Like after watching the animated series and watching the movies I was always disappointed and still to this day.
Synister is the best X-men villain as l see it.
Don't understand how can it be so understimated.
I feel very lucky to have grown up when I did. I was just old enough to enjoy all the great 80’s stuff (He-man, Voltron, She-ra, Transformers, etc.) and also had X-men, Batman the Animated Series, Gargoyles, Eek the cat (and the Terrible Thunderlizzards), etc. in the 90s.
Eek the cat, bro. Yes.
Thunderlizzards?
Never heard of that
@@Drayton42677 They were so terrible they added the extra z.
Same here. Saturday morning cartoons always got me so excited. I loved Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Dungeons and Dragons, Go-Bots, Robotics, and G.I. Joe along with some you already mentioned.
I tell people this all the time 80s baby 90s child was a great time to live in the USA for all genres of entertainment!!
I was seriously creeped out by Mr. Sinister when I was a kid. His voice, look, personality, & motivations made him a great & very evil villain.
Sinister still creeps me out , I definitely agree he got all the ingredients for a great villain
Man... I didn't know how good I had it as a kid. X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman: the Animated Series, etc... I wish I could go back in time.
Definitely, not just these shows but the Cartoon Network n Nickelodeon classics(Dexter, Bravo, Animaniacs, Hey Arnold, Rocket Power) and our games too
90's cartoon were the best. X-Men was one of my favs as kid then. Im glad i bought the whole collection years ago.
Apocalypse was god tier levels of awesome. Voice, powers, dialogue...everything was top notch. I learned new words as a kid listening to him. Never heard the term "blasphemer" before.
Yo Apocalypse was always one of the most badass and scariest villains I was so hyped for the X Men movie until I saw him and was EXTREMELY disappointed!!!!
What Killed movie apocalypse was they cut some of his grandeur,One we didn't see his spaceship though they hinted at the tech. Two they could had pronounced his primary shapes and make him taller even with c.g increase some volume. And finally he should of escaped sure Phoenix would beat him but he goes off to create more chaos. To remedy this refix the movies by elaborating his comeback bring bishop, gambit and Josh brolins cable along with wolverine. That would be a movie.
This was my absolute favorite cartoon when I was young boy growing up! I actually would get upset if I missed it for whatever reason. LOL
To this day, most of my knowledge of Marvel came from this show! Because later I got heavy into reading the comic books😁
THIS SHOWS voice actors, animation, and story-telling, was ALWAYS 100% on point! The only bad thing I can say about this show, would be that they didn't continue running the show to this day😢
Once again, excellent job on picking the content for today's topic!👍👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆🏆
There was a promo for "Time Fugitives" where Rogue says, "First Bishop, now Cable. What do we X-Men look like, a rest stop?"
I can definitely hear her saying that 🤣🤣🤣
Where’d you find it???
@@marvelfanatic9535 It was a voice-over during the end credits of either X-Men itself or another Fox Kids show. I just happened to remember it.
I still can’t believe it’s been 30 years since this show premiered and I can vividly remember being in 6th grade watching this from the very first episode to the series finale in 97. I had them all recorded on VHS. If one of the tapes got damaged or messed up, I’d have to wait til those episodes came on again so I can record them on a new tape. Now I can simply watch them on Disney plus.. So much nostalgia lol
I'm 40 and still to this day have my X-Men action figures. I have over 90 of them, including the Blackbird, a Sentinel, and Wolverines motorcycle with the extendable claws. The Phoenix Saga in the cartoon was amazing & any episode with Apocalypse in it was awesome as well. Great vid.
The dialogue was just priceless: “you are a fool sinister, the most powerful mutants on earth will hunt you down to see Xavier avenged”. Always gave me chills as well as “you wish me to return to cold void of space?!?! Never!!!”
There so many others. My vocabulary in school was above average due to this cartoon and my teachers would flip out
This was one of the best cartoons in the 90s..great episodes plots, sagas and villians and hero's
I remember as a kid being impressed by how deep the Xmen cartoon actually was. Beast choosing to stay in prison when Magneto tried to break him out and his reasons for doing so definitely had an impression on my 9 year old self. That episode taught me about sticking to your principles even when it's not easy.
X Men 90 is still the best animated series of Marvel and the X Men in general
It is, but i must say Wolverine and the X Men wasn't bad neither.
Its 2nd best, the 90's Spiderman cartoon thats had 60 episodes and did Everything from venom to sinister six to battle world
@@matydavus1078 It did have a better ending then x men.... the last 2 seasons were all over the place... even the intro music changed.
@@matydavus1078 2nd best nah your tripping. One friendly neighbourhood spidey boy compared to dozens of badass mutants laying the smackdown down on marvels finest not just some sinister six. Case in point this video celebrates this animated series and the prestige it had over every other marvel animated show from the 90s.
@@master-of-mind5881 not just 1 spidey boy! More characters show up on that Spiderman show over its whole run then the xmen show, hell even the xmen show up in multiple episodes
Wolverine and the Xmen came close to recreating that nostalgic feeling of Xmen animated
Not even close. More like Wolverine and the rod riders that's all everybody did was ride him.
@@jonathandoe2316 that's your opinion
I know it wasn't all bad. I can't explain it, but it kinda slightly felt like the old cartoon in a few regards. I just see it as wasted potential that's all I respect your opinion.
@@jonathandoe2316 that's why I said it came the closest to the original in terms of the storyline and the music. But it can never beat the original
The theme song still gives me goosebumps
It gets stuck in your head.
Indeed it does. It's up there with the TMNT and Power Rangers themes. Pure classic
@@quietstorm2075 Damn I forgot about Power Rangers. Unbelievable kids it was the shit st one point decades ago, but it was cool.
Grew up watching 80s and 90s cartoons. More than I care to count in fact.
"Look up me and tremble. For I bring the purity of oblivion to your world." Favorite Quote of Apocalypse from this series.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the X-Men on FoxKids back in the day.
The X-Men cartoon series of the 1990's was the best cartoon show that was on fox kids. It will always be my favorite cartoon series of the 1990's.
An absolute 90s masterpiece
Shadow King, that one episode with The Savage Land with the iconic quote: "I was so close..." and Mojo. Loved this series so much! Excited for the revival in 2023
Revival?!! Please share more details!
Graydon Creed was a messed up villain. That episode where he just screams at his father Sabertooth's hologram is very memorable.
"You're not my father" shame today's woke generation can't handle mature storylines in a children's cartoon.
@@jamespope7669 can't argue too hard with that today's animation cartoons or nothing like X-Men used to be but to be honest this X-Men the Animated Series is the reason I became aware of certain situations so I guess that's a good thing
Blame the hoverparents who can’t help but protect little Timmy and Janet from the evils of society
i could never be able to express how much i adore X-MEN
Best thing that ever happened to the Marvel universe ever since 1963
and 3 things are indeed tragically underrated
CYCLOPS
X-MEN LEGENDS 1
X-MEN LEGENDS 2
may your soul live forever Stan Lee and thank you for giving us the X-men
The Juggernaut is and always will be my favorite X-MEN villain! Great video!
Just for this I'm going to watch the entire series again for the 1200 time on Disney plus
Been my ring tone for years
Wouldn't mind hearing that randomly in a store or something if you got a call.
Kickass for a ring tone.
@@isaacburns3546 Ikr my first time I got it I recorded it off of video and was a lil distorted but I have the real download now you should get it lol
X-Men The Animated Series was the show to watch on FOX Kids Network on Saturdays..have x men volume 1,2, 5, and 6 on dvd…gotta get volume 3 and 4 soon…also still watch the series to this day on Disney plus….
Magneto, Apocalypse & Omega Red were my favorite villains (in no particular order)
@@pitbullpuppiesfou7658 Completely agree & I should’ve had him on my list
Me too, and Stryffe and Onslaught
The Apocalypse movie was trash...i was so disappointed after the Days of Future Past was so good imo.
@@pedroenciso9082 i agree, that version of apocalypse looked evil amd creepy bit not Awsome or spectacular
@@pitbullpuppiesfou7658 🤣🤣🤣 yea he was pretty lame
Gotta respect how down magnetos crew was down to get fellow mutant beast out of jail even though they weren’t cool.
I wanted Colossus and Nightcrawler to be added on the team. Two of my favorite X-Men.
What a fantastic cartoon X-Men was with the best villains next to Batman the Animated Series those two cartoons for me we're the best from the 90s literally.
I recently saw the 90's X-Men series on Disney+ and it brought back lots of great memories of when many a Saturday mourning when I was a kid when I would go and watch one cartoon episode after another. I would watch all of them again in a second. Wonderful video you all made. wouldn't mind a part 2. But that's up to you.
Loved the X-men in the 90s the stories the villains this show was ahead of the times and made my Saturday mornings
I used to love waking up early to watch Saturday morning cartoons, though X-Men came on at 3:00 on weekdays, which sucked cause i didn't get off the bus til 3:45 and I'd miss it and i didn't really care for Animaniacs. I loved Saturdays for Transformers and later that one Nintendo cartoon that had Megaman and Simon Belmont on it, I can't remember who else was on it, though I remember Mother Brain and I think Dr. Wiley being some of the villains. Cartoons and cereal in the 80s were the best!
This show was amazing & set the precedent for most X-Men related content!!! That’s the reason some of the movies & the shows did poorly in the Fanbase’s eyes…the ones that did well, stayed true to the source material (especially the Animated Series)
Best 90's cartoons: X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Spawn (though, I had to watch it without my parents knowing, lol), Gargoyles, Pepper-Ann (90's into 2000's), Recess, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Biker Mice from Mars, Street Sharks, W.I.L.D.C.A.T.S. (I think that's how it was spelled), and Life with Louie! Thanks for making this video!
Swatcats. Superhuman Samurai....
The tone of this show was so eerie and REAL. For a kid back then it really pulled on emotions in a manner not many (if any) cartoons were able to do. I felt real terror, anxiety and doubt whereas the average run-of-the-mill American cartoons seriously couldn't evoke due to the fact we already knew the heroes would win eventually but X-Men weren't always capped off with a happy ending. †SPOILER ALERT*****†When Morph was KIA that set a tone I never felt up until that point in my childhood life. THANKS TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED WITH THIS CLASSIC!
Stryffe, Apocalypse, onslaught, and Omega Red have always given me da creeps. The Gladiator, Archangel, Bishop, and Cable were awsome.
I was in my early 20's then. Getting to see Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Maverick,Havoc and Cable. GLADIATOR!!! Good times 😌 😎
Gladiator was definately one of the coolest. I loved when he picked up Jugganaught and tossed him into the ocean like he was nothing. That was mind blowing at the time.
This animated series was perhaps the most emotional cartoon in the 90s when the X-Men thought that morph had died is just upsetting you could feel the pain from each character and it was probably the First Marvel series to allow women to be equal to the men
Im rewatching it on Disney+ now! It still holds up all these years later and lets be honest the series did so well because it didn't tiptoe around subjects that today would not fly! Some of the changes they made from the comic book worked while many other series and films just don't work. The stories were so good that it pulled you in and you actually connected to the characters and the motley crew assembled as the X-men with all their problems and back stories that kept you coming back for more! Mr. Sinister "Nathaniel Essex" is the best because he has the absolute WTF background and what he is capable of! I never liked the Phoenix saga in any of incarnations be it cartoon of live action. The powers cosmic just don't fit to me!
Manged to pick up the DVDs still watch em
2:34 At least in the cartoon, Magneto is more like an antiheroe, he makes mistakes but so far I see that he would prefered to just live in peace with the rest of the mutants and don´t messing with anyone else
I agree with that, Rodimus. Magneto was definitely an anti-hero in the '92 series. His actions for Mutant Liberation may have been misguided, however he was able to put aside that ideal and help Charles and the X-Men on some other threats.
Yes that was actually what he did with Genosha
There is a story arc where he captures an asteroid and uses that as a haven for mutants
These episodes were my childhood! Nothing was better back then.
Now this is what I'm talking about!!!! 😁✌❤
I loved Apocalypse, Juggernaut and Mr. Sinister! 😍😍😍
8. Enter Magneto is not a dark-themed episode but quite a good introduction to a villain.
7. Wolverine only found out that Colossus didn't destroyed X-Mansion because of the latter's different scent. Again, this is not quite dark.
6. Now this one's really dark. This may not be the exact comicbook version but it is the better one than the movie adaptation.
5. The talent of Morph was really emphasized in this episode.
4. Another good episode showing how far will Cable do just to save his timeline. However, Wolverine is not the only one with the healing factor which makes me wonder why scientists like the Beast and Moira MacTaggert failed to make any vaccines.
3. I was excited when I saw the teaser of a flame after the "Out of the Past" episode that lead to the "Phoenix Saga"...which is another better adaptation than the two live-action movies ever did.
2. Wolverine's learning a part of his past is interesting but not dark enough for me.
1. The plot of this episode was entertaining.
For me, these ae the most dark episodes of the series:
1. "Love in vain" because of the body horror sustained by Cody caused by The Colony and the failure of the XMen to save him.
2. "Proteus parts 1 & 2" are both quite grim and sad episodes. Wolverine just got traumatized like we've never seen before and the chaos brought by Proteus in his search for his father who later denied acknowledging him as a son.
3. "Come the Apocalypse" has given me and my cousins shivers when we saw Apocalypse and Mystique turned Warren Worthington into Archangel.
Yeah this channel likes to throw around words like "dark," and lovecraftian whether or not they actually apply.
And thats how you adapt a comic, wish this lasted longer because there are plenty of comics from The Uncanny X-men
Love your content can I suggest you Spiderman from the future at some point? Thanks for the hard work 🤝
GREAT TOPIC!!!! I am an X-MEN FAN!!! NERD LOVE EVERYONE
"I AM NOT AN ANIMAL! I AM NOT AN ANIMAL!"
I’m so glad I was growing up on this series. It’s a classic! I’ve gotten ahold of all 5 seasons and I watch it a lot as a comfort show. I can’t wait for Disney to drop the newest edition. The fact they got MOST of the old cast to come back is fire 🔥
The animated series of Batman, Spiderman, and X men dominated the 90's. The other shows from then were great too. Those were 3 though, that's the heartfelt greatness that saved many childhoods. Amazing
1990’s X-men , Batman, and Spider-Man is my all time favorite superhero cartoons , glad I was a teenager back then those days were so much better than these times 😢
Far preferred the Xmen to the Animated Batman, and the fave villain I had was the mad Emperor D'Ken, as really the Shi'ar should have had a bigger part in the films
you made Apocalypse number 1, awesome I think so as well
I never missed an episode of this show
Omega Red & The Phalanx are my favourites
Really well put together. Good job ! This show is still way better than any of the movies, despite all it's flaws
+ I love the narrative direction on each episode great input.
the intro you never skip from a series...always watch it lol, I miss 90s cartoons.
I watched every single episode... when this was on... was devastated when it ended!!!!!
One of the best marvel 90s animated series
I love the X-Men animated series! Classic Marvel awesome video 😎
Magneto could be a One Man Construction Crew. Storm could be a powerful source of Renewable Energy. But nah, let's fight the government and each other rather than being useful.
They are superheroes doofus they should charge your kind every time they use their powers.
@@jamespope7669 Who said they wouldn't be paid?...and, did you just call Magneto a Superhero?
Filthy casual.
I wish they would just recreate the storyline of this show into live action movies. Dark Phoenix still did not do it justice. Why did they change something that was already so great‽ They voice actor for Jean Grey/ Dark Phoenix is just amazing!
Man... That was my favorite cartoon 💯.. was five when it came out in 92 loved it!!
I am watching over this entire show now ☺️☺️
Just for this video I'm actually re living my childhood memory. So good to have grown in the 90's, no tik tok, Instagram ect all that garbage and still enjoy actual interaction with a human being.
The 1990s Animated Series Renaissance, that I grew up in proudly, was the best thing ever seen.
Oh snap, this series was so lit😢😢 the Nostalgia 😭😭😭
1 of my favorite quotes from the show.. Jubilee: what did we ever do to you?!!!
Creed: You...were...born!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Creed's a jerk. 😆
Or apocalypse's "I am far above mutant as they are far above you." to a human scientist.
@@BlackLotus30 uuuuu yea i like that one 2.
@@BlackLotus30 how about this
Wolverine:" Cajun don't trust NOBODY. "
Apocalypse's dialog on the show was excellent. Reeks of villainy.
When talking about Spider-Man, the 90s cartoon will always be the best.
Sinister has always been my favorite Marvel Character. You cannot truly read this man and you truly do not know the limits of his potential.
The early '90's was GREAT TIME to be a kid! Trust me, I know! I watched the “X-Men: The Animated Series” every day after school. 📺🥰
Mighty Max, Power Rangers, X-Men, Biker Mice From Mars were my childhood.
Ohhh you should do Gargoyles, Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated series to go on with the 90's Superhero theme.
The show was amazing ...however the best animated superhero show is too much , I would say the second the first one is gonna be Batman
Nope, X-Men TAS is better. Only hipsters and rightists claim Batman TAS is better. And most of those people have not even seen both of those shows lol.
It’s okay to be wrong.
For those who want to watch it again the entire series is currently streaming on Disney +
Oh man this is the xmen I grew up with!!!!
Not even in 90s but in 2010s i watch this like i was always excited to watch this show when i got back home from school
Another great video ty again. Would you consider doing lists for shows like Superman: The Animated Series and X-Men Evolution about strongest characters and great villains? Those two shows are very good and to me I could see them being deserving of lists. Also maybe one for best episodes of Smallville? It’s the 20th anniversary this year and I really think that show had a lot of great episodes that could be list worthy. Ty again and keep the awesome work up!
Thank you for memories coming back to me today sitting in moms living room while she cooked for me. Thank you
This was the goat in the 90's I loved this series and still do!
Between this and the 90s Batman we had the best cartoons
80's and 90's cartoons where the best.
All their villians were great in that show :) 💘💘😊😎
I love this cartoon but it contradicted itself a few times and messed up the timelines of a lot of X-Men stories but overall it was satisfying to watch every Saturday morning
Thank you for the trip down old school lane
Best theme song ever!
Na na na na naaa na na
Morph"s powers are underrated, my man turned into magneto - helmet and all with no extra accessories. LOL
I really wished they continued with the show after Xavier's so called "death" at the end of the season this show meant so much to me and still does, there's so much more human elements they put into this show, especially within my fav episode when magneto said "you're all fools, heroic fools" if remember correctly lol sorry it I got that wrong.
I still watch it.
Great video! X-Men & Batman were my favorite animated series growing up.
