Killing the baby that was trying to kill him. Not evil, self defense. Mesmer was a rat, and turned on him first, jeopardizing the entire team. Deserved. Gunpowder tried to kill him twice, nope, not evil.
totally agree if Butcher didnt be so ruthless, he and his team would have already death. Shooting Starlight is about saving Hughie. Translucent case is about self preservation, if he telling Homlander, the team would be slaughtered. StillWell is just as bad
Also he himself said “were you gonna run across the street and four flights of stairs in 10 seconds like some supe” it was physically impossible to save the landlord
He treated Mesmer like shit before the whole ordeal. Mesmer was obligated to help someone like that. Killing him is one thing but brutalizing him in the process of killing was just going too far.

The Butcher of the show is surprisingly restrained in comparison to the comic book Butcher. Comic book Butcher is a stone cold sociopath and does not show human feelings unless it somehow serves his purpose. Show Butcher displays human emotions from time to time, and it is implied that he still has a bit of humanity left in him.
Theirs a difference between being emotionless and having a pretty fair goal in mind

@@MyCodeGeass thank you for breaking it down for me. I've not read the comics. Sadly, I've come to graphic novels late in life. I used to get the Dandy and Beano when I was a kid but let peer pressure get to me and gave up the 'kid stuff'.
I've only read The Walking Dead series, I Am Legend and am currently working my way through Saga. The Boys has been added to my list. Can't say when I'll get to it since spare cash isn't in abundance just know :/

Honestly I've actually started to feel bad for Homelander. Because if it wasn't for the way he was raised and manipulated he could have been the Superman in their universe. You can tell especially in the 3rd season that all he really wants is for someone to love him and not see him as a monster. So that's why it's actually tragic because he's not inherently evil. I mean hell he didn't even want to kill Maeve at the end of the show. All he cared about was his kid.

Well mezmar did put all the boys of risk of death and billy did give him a warning that he’d kill him if he told vaught, and gun powder would have told vaught that butcher was looking into soldier boy and they would have gotten the rest of payback on lockdown, when he shot star light he though she was gonna bring Huey into vaught (which she was gonna bring him into the police) also it’s not like that had any chance of killing her. Translucent was trying to kill Huey and butcher also billy goes to that superhero club all the time he definitely saw him do shit in the bathrooms there.

Billy Butcher is my generation’s Tyler Durden, someone who’s so charismatic that you forget how screwed up he really is.
Now that I think about, The Boys is pretty much my generation’s Fight Club.

Not defending, but I think Butcher manipulating and being harsh to Hughie (in the show at least) comes from him seeing his brother in Hughie. His brother was weak and couldn't fend for himself. His treatment is his twisted way of trying to toughen up Hughie to make him learn to fend for himself as he wishes he taught his brother to do.

How is him taking temp v so bad? He didn't tell Hughie because he knew he was too close to stopping Homelander and needed it to even the odds and Hughie would try to "Lenny" him If he told him.
