  • On February (wow i just noticed i spelled it wrong in the video) 19th, the local foamers and I went west to Brandon! Manitoba's 2nd largest city. Sorry in advance for the shaky footage and messy audio, brought a admittedly crappy Canon Vixia R700 out with me just for nostalgic purposes, forgot the audio cuts from stereo to 'mono' and the stabilization doesnt exist, LOL
We initially went out for BCOL 4651 leading CN 356 east, however, it broke down somewhere near rivers and CN 3097 was put up front to take it into winnipeg.
We first shot a couple CN trains at Deer on the Rivers sub, first was a mixed train doing at least 60mph, second was an intermodal going a little slower.
We saw CN 356 with ET44AC 3097 and BCOL C44-9W 4651 between Harte and Petrel Jct. before heading down to brandon.
We were greeted by CN 5472 and 5343 heading east toward a factory on the outskirts of town to drop some coil cars off before continuing east. meanwhile, CP 3022, 2297 and 2238 were pulling a string of ammonia tanks down this INSANE graded s curve.
we then went back to see the CN SD60 and SD40-2W heading past 49th street on this neat uphill curve. The crews got a kick out of us shooting them, they probably don't see railfans too often!
A little later, we managed to catch CN 2993 and 5618 headed west on L501 down the Cromer Sub! We caught it downtown as it slinked through brandon on it's way to Estevan, SK. This was my first catch on the Cromer! Hoping to see more on this line in the future.
Later, we remembered that a CWR train was bound to leave Winnipeg, we headed over to the mainline to find out he was pretty much a few minutes away from us. we shot CP SD40-2 6045 and GP38-2 3082 headed west over Hwy 110. We shot the train a few more times between Brandon and Oak Lake, MB before we called it a day.

I've been up there around Brandon a couple times, I didn't spend any time trackside but I hope to next time I go. What's the busiest line/area around there? I'm a huge fan of the scenery out there and would love to get some action

Technically the busiest is about 15 mins north of the city on the CN Rivers sub at Brandon North/Knox siding, lol
But otherwise for the city itself, CP is the busier line with their daily intermodals, like two ish manifests and grain trains, there's a spot just east of the city right off the highway that gets this insane elevated shot of the CP.
