  • The thing I’ve used my Steam Deck for more than anything thus far has been emulation. Being able to play basically any game from any console, especially on a handheld system, is just the best. The ROG Ally with it’s extra horsepower and Windows installed by default should mean it’s actually a better playing experience for those games that require a little more power, or in the Xbox 360 emulator’s case, requires Windows. In this video I want to walk you through the setup process, then give a handful of games a shot.

    The thing about emulation is... That you have to tweak the settings to best fit your system... I have a desktop with an i9 13900k and an RTX 4070 and even I run into problems... I had to mess around with the settings until I found what worked best for me. And you also have to pay close attention to specific game tweaks and patches. I am sure that the ROG Ally can provide a far better experience with the right configuration. What I would truly like to see is somebody setting up the gyro controls for the ROG Ally on these emulators. Because on my desktop setting up gyro controls was fairly easy using the SDL configuration, for all my Playstation or Nintendo controllers, but as I do not have an Ally myself I do not know if its also that simple.

      That's very true, currently my steam deck performs better with some GameCube games even though is less powerful, sometimes software/settings makes a huge difference even if you have a hardware beast.

    So how has this been in terms of reliability compared to the steam deck? I know the deck is good because it’s Linux and custom os and support of course but this being windows and higher power I’m sure has a lot more better performance

      More games supported on Windows, sure. Although that number is getting smaller. Regarding emulation,just about every emulator is available on Windows and Linux, and often on Mac as well, so not much of a difference there, performance depends way more on your hardware than on your OS of choice.

    Hey guy from my experience i recommend if you gonna set up a emulator download the latest shader pack of the game you gonna play on that emulator because it help to not get any stoter and get full fps from the emulator from the start

    • @Can-O-Noodle
      @Can-O-Noodle Před 23 dny

      Making your own shader pack will always be better than a downloaded own because of the system differences that every system has. Even systems withe the same specs can have manufacturering differences that change anything

    Im not too smart on the tech lingo but on my rog ally z1 (not Extreme) rpcs3 i cannot seem to get a game to run. It always crashes when i try and its hard to get back into it. When i do get it and as i hit play, then it gives me a message that says something like win with a bunch of zeros 😢

    Switch emulation does take quite alot of messing around and even then it aint perfect. I think the switch is a step too far. Its taken me hours of combination checking to get that satisfactory and it still exhibits large dips and 25fps often.
    Mario wonder ive got into an almost playable state but again the slow down as you move through a stage is still there.
    I think switch is a step too far for the ally. But everything else is fine

    turn off cpu boost it really does nothing but make yo shit hot plus set your static gpu to 1200mhz and i was playing all switch games at 14watts 1080p with distance detail turned up tweak the ally a bit and you can get big gains!

      He doesn’t know that the gba generation of pokemon ran at 60fps on the map and in battle those are the fastest and smoothest pokemon games with black and white 1&2 coming very close but they are still slower cause of the map even tho the battles are very close in speed if not faster than the gba pokemon games.

      @@dannyd4339 I love emulation more than original hardware my ps4 is somewhere with dust and my switch sits in its case lmao I’m emulating on an old google pixel xl first gen when they still had snapdragon chips but that was when they were barely able to start doing GameCube. But nds even upscaled thru drastic works fine and many others. Duckstation doesn’t too much unless your doing 1x I guess its too old of a phone. Crazy cause I got access to a s23 ultra and it can do 16x max res on duckstation easily and cpu and gpu is like at 50% with that! Lol duckstation is accurate ps1 emulation so that’s not easy to do without power.
