It's funny and crazy to think, that both of my parents were doctors. My father was a brain surgeon and my mother was a gynecologist. We've lived in a post Soviet country called Turkmenistan, so obviously they weren't making the money that doctors in America do. As I remember, while being a child, my parents were riding a bus (DOCTORS!) to their work and back home. We owned a 2 bedroom apartment and no car. Isn't it crazy?
Now, it's been 16 years since my dad passed away. My mother brought me and my brother to America almost 6 years ago and she hasn't been practicing medicine since then, due to language barrier and difference in education or certificates, whatever you wanna call it. It's just crazy to think... what if we were born here? Family probably would've been rich, but that's whatever. I get a chance to live in America and make the future for my own kids.. So.. let's do it.

Also if it makes you feel better, I'm studying to be a doctor now and I already know where I want to work which is at a far-fetched isolated part of my country. Since my country needs it. And I already know that I'm only going to get at most a thousand dollars a month for that.

it makes a lot of sense for most of the top paying jobs are health related, life amd well being is the one thing that everyone desires, even when cutting themselves or committing suicide the person is trying to aliviate pain or suffering....
we all hold well being as the single most important thing, thats why we all pay any amount necessary to achieve it
+Federico Olivares As a med school student your view frustrates me.. I have student loans of over 500k USD and have spent the last 6 years in university. Further more when I do graduate I will not instantly start earning 200k a year, a junior doctor only earns 30k a year starting off for the first 5 years until they graduate as a consultant and then begin to earn more money. Where I am going with this is I will come out of university with well over half a million in debt, have to work mandatory overtime totaling over 80 hours a week and not be earning a six figure salary until im well into my 30's where I will spend the next 5-10 years paying off my student loans putting me in my 40's before I can start saving for a house all this while being open to lawsuits left right and center for a single mistake if you ever made one.
On the other hand I could just work a office job earn 50k a year work half the hours not be 30 leaving university not have half a million in debt and not have to constantly fear a lawsuit for a misjudgment. If im being blunt also its worth putting in the simple and obvious fact of you have to be fucking smart to get into med school and work harder than 99.999% of people could ever imagine.. I study/ am in university 18 hours a day 7 days a week all so that I can save someone like yours life who doesn't even show any gratitude... Your welcome

Lawyers dont really OVER charge that much, they do SO much work off record and during there own time for there clients. Also idk why everyone thinks that all lawyers are criminal defense lawyers... they are but a small number of the overall population of lawyers.

Anesthesia is also very NOT understood by us. We use it, and develop it through trial and error. We know VERY little about pain, how it works, and how to stop it. Anesthesia is also not the same from hospital to hospital. The local anesthesia they use at a hospital in Manhattan, may be different from the local anesthesia in a hospital in Brooklyn.

Do some better research. I'm in the medical field and gynecologists are actually one of the lowest paid specialists. And surgeons are usually better paid than anesthesiologists (unless you are talking about a general surgeon). Orthopedic, neurologic and cardiac surgery make waaaay more money than any anesthesiologist.

Medical specialist can almost choose their salaries. In residency they get job offers from hospitals from all over the country. Some job overs offer lower salary but better hours and better location. However if you decide to accept an offer in a rural area with longer hours you can make insane money. I know a gastroenterologist who started making over 600k right after he finished his residence at 33 years old.

Being and anesthesiologist is not all about living an "amazingly luxurious life" as the video puts it. There are many hidden costs that the lay public don't see. There is huge social costs in completing 12 years of intense training including missing out of family events, not seeing your kids grow up, sleepless nights etc, missing your friend's weddings, losing touch with friends etc. Once training is finished most anaesthesiologists work 12 hour days in very stressful environments where a patient's life is literally in their hands. Any small mistake can cause catastrophic outcomes. And to top it off most patient's don't even realise an anaesthesiologist was involved in their care. There have been many times where I have resuscitated an unconscious patient in the ER, stabilized them and sent them to the ICU and all that remains of my ever being there is a short consult note and a few signatures that the patient never sees. I think for the huge sacrifices, the salary is just a small perk.
