      @@ronswanson398 that's the problem, they used to make very good 1911's, the word spread that kimber was a good go to brand, then they started producing crap and that crap seems to have been reflected more on 1911's in general than kimber itself......1911's are my favorite pistol and have a bunch of different brands, even some kimbers, maybe i've been lucky, i don't know, but i haven't had any problems with any of them that a few hundred rounds hasn't sorted out....i do admit some of the newer ones need to be broken in before and correct me if i'm wrong but i believe it to be that the manufacturing tolerances have gotten so much tighter than what they were able to do for the first 50 years of the 1911's design that you just got to break some of the newer ones in to loosen up the tolerances in there....just my personal pov on the matter

      I’d try lube before mailing it off, precision ground metal on metal does not like to be dry and can cause all kinds of problems. Firearms don’t need much maintenance, but they do need a few drops of oil here and there. My xds used to get light strikes unless it was well lubed, not a problem now that it’s broke it just wanted to point out its a problem all gun types can have. Wife’s high point had the same exact problem as Scott was having in this video and a few drops of oil on the rails fixed it.
      For those who don’t like cleaning and oiling, extreme duty gun grease will give you thousands of rounds between having to lube things.
      Not saying he shouldn’t use the warranty if needed, but there are several logical things to try before sending it back, I’d throw a different mag in it as well just to be sure. Who knows maybe is rubbing the bottom of the slide and slowing it down or something, unlikely imo but it’s a zero effort attempt so no reason not to.

Took it back to the retail outlet I bought it from and their armorer took it to the range and experienced the same issues I was having. Sent it back to Yonkers and got it back a few weeks later with a laundry list of substandard parts that had to be replaced, such as slide springs, hammer spring, firing pin..... Since it came back from Noo Yawk, it’s been flawless. How the hell did that get by quality control to begin with.....

      Because they sell a name and suckers buy it. Every time one of us sold a Kimber at the gun shop, we had a bottle of Jameson in the back. The tradition was that after work, you had to leave your gun take a shot and get a ride home. Because you had just sold an overpriced piece of garbage that was going to make the boss deal with a dissatisfied customer at least four more times and even though the mark-up was higher than any other gun and made the shop a larger profit, it wasn't worth the headache. I never sold one. If someone came in interested in one and I couldn't steer them away, I would claim that I didn't know much about them and hand them off to another salesman with less integrity who wanted the commission.

    I bought a RIA M1911 FS TACT II years ago when the Colt Delta Elite, Sig, and Glock were about your only choices. It’s 16 + 1 capacity, series 70, and has a mag well. It needs deeper/better slide serrations but it’s a gas to shoot!
    I’ve never liked Glocks and this was the only other high capacity 10mm out there. Had issues with front sight falling off but I replaced it with a Callaway sight and 27 pound recoil spring. It still slings brass 10 yards but full power loads would sling brass 30 yards before, no joke!
    It’s heavy but a joy to shoot. Never had jamming issues and can’t recall it ever jamming. It’s probably been a year since I shot it but thanks to this video, I believe tomorrow it’s gonna get a work out!

  • @filup7419
    @filup7419 Před 2 lety +18

    I have a Kimber 1911 .45 and it’s great. Initially I had loading problems too but found there are two possible causes for your failure to feed problems.
    First, magazines; with factory magazines, they can tilt the nose of the bullet down and effectively cause the bullet to “head butt” the feed ramp. This is caused by a lack of support on the loading tray in the magazine. Wilson Combat magazines cure this as they have a plastic block for a feed tray making impossible for the bullet to nose dive.
    Second, the ejector is too tight (I think this is your problem from what very little I saw in the video). When your ejector is too tight, your bullet gets loaded but it causes it to load incorrectly causing a jam. There are several videos explaining how to adjust your ejector if you don’t want to send it to Kimber.
    On another note, Kimbers are well tuned with very tight tolerance’s. Knowing this, you have to clean the gun and get the factory grease off. This stuff is good for shipping but will slow the gun down and could also cause feeding problems.
    After I looked into these things on mine, it is extremely reliable. Once you understand that this is a classy lady, she’ll sing like a fine opera house. Treat her poorly, don’t clean her and feed her bad magazines or poor ammo (which you did not), she will act like an old broken down, coffee drinking, cigarette smoking truck stop hooker. Glock and S&W aren’t as finicky. Kimber is just a high maintenance girl that’s gotta be treated just right, that’s all.

    Scott, I'm having the exact problem with my 45 ACP from Kimber! I had to put 200+ rounds through it before it started feeding better. If you look at the slide as it tries to cycle, mine would not go all the way forward so I would give the slide a tug aft and that would do it. It was a pain to get it broken in, I'll probably take it to the range today just to keep it moving and get more certainty and practice out of it.

      So far the Glock 40 is the only 10 mm I have as well. My wife wants to get the Springfield XDM Elite in 10 mm. I’ve shot the Glock 20. My brother has one. It recoils a bit more than the 40, but honestly it’s still not that bad. I did shoot a subcompact 40 Smith & Wesson, and I agree, the recoil on them is definitely more noticeable due to the small size.

I went through and deburred, stoned, and even had to properly fit a couple parts after kimber told us just to run +p ammo and see if that fixes it. Runs perfect now.
