Who am I?
I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 16 years and been singing since I was 17. I teach from my own studio and via Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. I have been around!
In 2008 I wrote the Vocaltutor Guide, 21 set lessons for singing teachers to get started, learning to teach, and produced 3 vocal exercise CD/Downloads.

Me too. I remember watching her perform with a foot brace or cast on one of those award shows. Always one of the artists that you know but is always in the background. Doesn’t seem like she got a big enough push until Bang Bang. She’s like Alessia Cara.

Her low end on this is ridiculous. The highs are good, but the lows? Utterly ridiculously great. But if you want to hear even better lows listen to her version of "Reflection" on this show. Her version of that goes even lower than this does. Flawlessly.

It was a smart move for her. Despite her enormous talent, she tends to get pigeonholed. The Singer performances allowed her to showcase her versatility. This one was a fairly straightforward cover, but her other performances and their arrangements were revelatory.
It was a smart move. I just don't think Western audiences like her. She has come off as quite arrogant and dismissive of the industry in the past. I don't think she's made many friends so to speak.
Her version of Purple Rain is SO incredible!
@@pampoovey6722 yep, she hates how the industry forces and manipulates artists, thats why she basically does everything herself now lol. Only bad side is she is almost an enemy's to the industry now so she get no coverage.

Jessie J really rose to another level in Singer 2018. My favorites are Killing Me Softly, Purple Rain, Ain't Nobody, Reflection and I Have Nothing. That's five different types of songs and five different types of performances but all equally mesmerizing.

Isaiah Skidmore Mariah songs are hard to hit the notes but Whitney songs are hard notes and many other aspects and THEN even emotions are just a whole another aspect.

I agree, she’s grossly underestimated. One of the best singers out there in modern day music. I don’t know why she doesn’t get the credit. Phenomenal.

Jessi J is one of the best singers / vocalist in the world. With this performance she is connecting with the audience to pull them towards her. (Arm and hand movements) She is someone that has a power voice and can sing anything.

Soooooooooo underrated! I remember seeing her at one of those awards shows where she sang "Bang Bang" with Ariana and Nikki Minaj. It was like she just eclipsed those two. Like, why did Ariana or Minaj bother showing up? It was PHENOMINAL

Jessie is a phenomenal singer. She has an incredible voice but she can really perform. After watching Whitney Houston's performance I can feel all the choices Jessie made to make the song her own which given it being a Whitney's song would be hard to do. Bravo.

I love Jessie J. She is one of the only people who I've seen sing this song, besides Whitney, who shows so much vocal control, doesn't oversing, and brings out the nuance of the musical lines.

I miss Whitney Houston. 😢 The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack was my first CD. I adored Whitney Houston from a young age. When they televised her funeral I watched it on tv. I got CHILLS when the pallbearers lifted her casket at the end & “I Will Always Love You” started playing in the church. The *last* song she sang live in front of a small audience was “Jesus Loves Me” the night before. People always say this but there really will never be another Whitney.
She was the best. No one will ever be like her.
I have seen some reactions to this song from different vocal coaches. Rebecca is the only one who was listening until the full end. Thats nice, because the last two seconds of her singing is such an amazing ending.
