  • Hello and today we have a little Puch moped from 1972 and it is completely original this model is an MS50D maxi-supreme-autolube and has a 3 speed manual transmission which is quite rare it is a super little moped and also quite rare to find one in original condition that hasn't been messed with

So did I when I was 16, it cost me £50 and I loved it to bits.
I wish that I still had it today.

I owned one in 1976 as a 16 year old. Drove it all around Orpington to Biggin Hill and absolutely loved the feeling of freedom it gave me. Makes my heart flutter to see one!

This is exactly the same bike, same colour scheme and everything, that I got as a 16 year old in 1973. I was living in rural Herefordshire, on a farm in the middle of nowhere, and this set me free, and I rode all around the wonderful country lanes. Fantastic memories - particularly the non-effectiveness of the front brake! (Down to my lack of mechanical skills!) I absolutely loved it

My first on road 2 wheeler in the middle 70s, got me through that one year until a provisional licence at 17 allowed me to upgrade to a 250. The bike was boring but functional, premix 2 stroke, luckily, garages still had 2 stroke oil dispensers, so no need to carry round a messy bottle of oil. The pedals kick started the engine, as well as being used to apply the rear brake by back peddling, if you were really desperate, you could use the clutch/ gear changer on the left hand bar, select gear, and holding in the clutch, the bike could be pedalled. This was slow, awkward, and really tiring, so never used. The gears as I said were selected but pulling in the clutch, and twisting the handset. Mine was a 2 speed, but saw a few around with 3, but always found the twin speed ok, top speed being 30 to 35 mph, crap really when compared to a FS1E, or SS50, but these cost real money, so for just 12 months, the puch was ideal. For me, the big downside was dynamo electrical system, so no battery, brake light, key ignition ( easily stolen) and at low revs, the headlight was candlepower, and not much better going faster. All in all it was cheap, basic transport, but I was glad to reach 250 status.

Me too, although I had the 3 speed. Not that it was any quicker 🛵💨
      I love the GP-style underslung exhaust 😀

V similar here. Was my second moped after a Raleigh Ultramatic and before my FS1E in 1974. Then as you say, moved on to Honda CB250K4 when I was 17 and finally Honda CB750 K2 in 1977 - getting a bike licence back then was so much easier. Used to spend each weekend polishing that aluminium cowl with Autosolvosol. My mate got the VZ50 in yellow and I was v jealous :-)) Simpler times

These were seen as a bit grandad in the 1970s, compared to Japanese and Italian supermopeds. Someone I knew had a yellow MS50, which always looked pretty cool. I particularly envied his double seat and footpegs. Perfect for giving girls a lift!
