  • The top 20 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Winners 1955 - 2017, in my opinion.
    The roll of honour for this race incredible. I had to leave some very top class winners off this video and I'm sure a few would be controversial. A lot of the performances here were truly outstanding. For me, in the time I've been watching racing I'd go with Generous as the best King George winner I've seen.

    For me still the best all age middle distance race of the year love to see it get back to the sort of status it used to have. I was there when Harbinger won having backed him so sad he never made it to the Arc a fantastic horse

    • @nightowl7459
      @nightowl7459 Před 2 lety +1

      Chris Simmins: Definitely, it's the most fairest race, you rarely get very soft ground or horse who are past their best at that time of year, I just wish it was a little more international like the Arc is.

    • @rohansrider
      @rohansrider Před rokem

      @@nightowl7459 Agree with you both: Back in the day this race would attract Derby winners, French Derby winners, English and French Oaks and other very talented one and half milers. Nowadays relatively small fields and not as classy. Considering the prestige and the prize money, it’s odd that it seems less attractive to owners and trainers. FYR Brigadier Gerrard won the Two Thousands Guineas so did Nijinsky, Dancing Brave, and Nashwan.

    • @nightowl7459
      @nightowl7459 Před rokem

      @@rohansrider Under I think a few tend to sidestep the King George in favour of the international, and we rarely get that much of a International field although last year wasn't that bad with a German and Japanese runner in the field, I think a lot has been lost by France cutting the distance of their Derby and Oaks, and the Brigadier was great, the only other Guineas winner's to have won the King George are Nashwan and Nijinsky as I can remember, but I'm sure there could be one or two more over it's long history?

    • @rohansrider
      @rohansrider Před rokem

      @@nightowl7459 Dancing Brave also. He who went on to win the Arc which Nijinsky and Nashwan failed to do
      I know it’s ancient history but the illustrious horse should have had the Derby on his CV. Terrible jockey error, quite possibly one of the worst in modern times. To win the Guineas in early May and then go on to capture the Arc in early October is a great training achievement . I rate the horse very highly and cannot watch that Epsom defeat without yelling at the TV. Nashwan never ran in the Arc, having run very badly over the course and distance in the Prix Neil in the Sept and Nijinsky who was well below par was beaten by Sassafras , but not badly and had he not had that bout of ringworm he would have won, I feel sure. Dancing Brave for me comes out on top. When we compare horses we do need to look at everything they won and who they beat. Fascinating subject.

    • @nightowl7459
      @nightowl7459 Před rokem

      @@rohansrider I'm not sure? I think Nijinsky was a little unlucky in the Arc, he had the race in the bag only to swerve and hand it to the other horse, people will say that Dancing Brave was definitely unlucky at Epsom, but take nothing away from the winner Sharistani who proved what a good horse he was in the Irish Derby before losing his form, I always believed El Gran Senor was even more unlucky not to have a Epsom Derby on his CV.

    where is Pentire in this list? his 96 win was classy as owt, having lost 6 or 7 lengths at the start and then cruised by Classic Cliche and a Derby winner on the bridle! only just poked out of the previous year by the unbeatable lamtarra! is definitely in my top 10! But it's impossible not to have Montjeu in any top 3 as he was very impressive as was Nijinsky!

    • @MILESnomore
      @MILESnomore Před 4 lety

      Pentire should have beaten LAMMTARRA - Hills got there too early (on the bridle) and then did nothing in front (a bit like Harchibald in the champ hurdle) ... some horses can't get home and need to be placed really late, on the line.. Pentire was pure class and loved Ascot (which seemed to suit) .. perhaps , FRANKIE on Pentire and Hills on Lammtarra produces a diff result,, not to knock LAMMTARRA , who got the 1mile 4f so well... MONTJEU and NIJ are best tho
