Teresa Teng (1953-1995) recibio ese nombre por venir de una familia cristiana. "Tian Mi Mi" es la cancion mas famosa de todo su repertorio y esta tan relacionada su fama con ella en su natal Taiwan como "Ue o muite arukou" (malamente rebautizada Sukiyaki) lo esta con Kyu Sakamoto en Japon. Teresa versiono esta cancion tambien en ingles, indonesio y japones, pero la version original en mandarin es la mas conocida. Tristemente sus canciones estan prohibidas en la China continental por el gobierno comunista. Igual que Sakamoto, Teresa fallecio prematuramente, a los 42 años, durante una gira en Bangkok, Thailandia, al parecer a causa de una intoxicacion o reaccion alergica a algun alimento local. Su fallecimiento llevo a decretar un dia de duelo nacional en Taiwan.
