  • FIAT DUCATO | AIRBAG FAULT |SNAP ON | CRASHDATA | FIX
Turning the engine over in our FIAT DUCATO Motorhome after a couple of months after the Xmas period 2020 a AIRBAG FAULT appeared on the dash and wouldn't come off. I tried scanning with a SNAP ON OBD reader and it found the codes but they wouldn't clear. After searching the internet I found that this was a common fault with the FIAT DUCATO where there could of possibly been a voltage drop in the vehicles batteries. It was either replace the unit at a cost of nearly £260 or to have the unit recoded at £72. We sent the module off to CRASHDATA in Liverpool and with a turn around of two days, the unit was reinstalled and working normally.

Thanks for the great video. I’m having the same problem, after the winter storage the engine did not start because of low voltage (11.8 volt) even though I had my camper connected to a power outlet all winter, now I used an external battery charger, and fully charged the starter battery, engine started and all things now ok except the airbag light that won't turn off, I went to the repairshop for diagnostics and they said that the Airbag sensor box is faulty and needs to be replaced. Going back to the shop in a few weeks, hope this helps cost around 600-700 euro. My insurance covers most of it so it will be around 300 euro. (bloodsuckers!! all of them), what will prevent it from happening again in a few years? well I just have to wait and se.

Sorry to hear you have had the same issue. We have had it happen again for the second time this year and have got to send the airbag module off again to be reset at a cost of £80. The only change we have made this year is changing to a lithium battery and hoping that the batteries do not loose their charge over the winter period. We have also had a 100watt solar panel connected directly to the starter battery hoping it will never drop charge, will keep you updated.

    Can anyone help please?
My airbag light came on today (2012 Fiat Ducatto).. the day after I just had a solar panel and controller upgraded. There's no way the engine battery voltage dropped too low on mine.. battery was fully charged, I use the vehicle all the time so its never sat unused ever, and I have 1kW of solar on the roof from two 495w panels. One of which charges both the leisure batteries and the engine battery on output 2 (1amp trickle).
I have a separate voltage display for the engine battery and it never drops below 12.6v, so cant be a low voltage thats caused the airbag fault?
Is it just a pure co-incidence I got an airbag fault the very next day after I had the new solar installed or is it likely related? More importantly how do I reset the fault (I dont have an OBD reader), is there no other way to reset it?
