My God...That first run out was just awesome....So much style to finish it off with that text book cross corner bank...Of course for Fatty, that was an easier shot to set-up/make...
Back in the 60's I was just a small kid and he held a exhibition at Montgomery Wards in Portland Or. I was picked out of the crowd to play him a game and he scared me! He looked like a round ball wearing green pants an a bright orange shirt. Talked trash the whole game about how his shoes cost more than all of those watching. I was nervous as hell but by that time I thought he was friggin nuts and he talked and I beat him. He autographed a book of his for me and it's one of my favorite treasures.
I know what you mean. I saw a great match live between Mosconi and Fats in the early 80's or so. I can't find it anywhere. But let me tell you this. Fats never stopped talking and he kept breaking Mosconi's concentration. Mosconi won the match but looked visibly upset. I hate to say it but watching Mosconi play is like watching a surgeon doing an appendectomy. Watching fats make you smile.
well, that's kinda true, they both loved computation and loved talking hit. I knew Puckett pretty good and only beat him once in 1984. we raced to 5 for $100 but it was my night , Puckett tossed the$100 down shortly aftr the 3rd game began and paid me the greatest compliment ever. I only met Fats once, he beat me real quick and it was very entertaining I had a blast
+Milford Cubicle That's the problem with pool nowadays...to many hacks with their stupid little glove on, acting like they're smarter than everyone around the table...These guys didn't need that nonsense; these guys KNEW they were good...good enough to roll with anyone...And the one thing they had that almost no one has today, was swagger, REAL SWAGGER....
7 ball - LOL! seems like a 7 ft table too. Lots of pointless talking and both players have the worst stance i have seen. And how big are those pockets?
kim bye The pockets are much smaller than what the pro players play on now. The felt was slower too. Harder to stroke the ball on the slow felt of those days.
+therealheyyous Couldn't have said it better myself....Perfect example is how Fats shot. He always shot standing straight up, which is unthinkable today. Call them sloppy shooters, but the fact still remains that neither of these old men ever worked a day in their lives...They truly lived the dream...
Andrew Maning Because the entire world has heard of "Andrew Maning" and his phenomenal technique, winning record and legacy, so he is surely the authority to be able to criticize Minnesota Fats and U.J. Puckett.
"The man has never had a job in his life."
I like how this is hailed as a praise. And indeed it is. A good hustler doesn't have to work.

Fats drills a cross-corner bank like it was a fucking hanger.
This is great shit!
Minnesota Fats gets there at 8 o’clock sharp. Not a minute before, not a minute after.
Great video! Very rare. ESPN would make millions if they released all their billiards videos in their archives.

Hell that's kool like c pic of book
Legendary story awsome he let you win.
I have seen them both play, 2 different types of players, both fantastic sticks
I have all the matches from that tournament. I was very disappointed that Willie Mosconi sat out that year.
A true legend of the table ....

I miss the classic ESPN. Today its nothing but Sports version of TMZ
it was an exhibition. These guys only play for real when there is serious loot on the line

at 20 seconds hopkins almost breaks character hahahahaha
Ali from Euphoria sent me here
*Player Change!*
Does anyone know what cues they are playing with???
My father beat him all night. My Dad was amazing. A musician, an artist and pool player.
Anyone notice the fly crawling on the table at 9:38?
Puckett's first shot ...didn't show " character " enough for Fats😊
Mike Tyson & Joe Rogan got me here
I guess this is what you watch when 30.
guy on the left looks like john milner with a beard from the movie american graffiti
Beat me. King Kong couldn't beat me!
and you just got hustled
did any one notice the fly on the table at the end of the match wtf they played in vietnam
There are flies everywhere, not just Vietnam.
"smells like bs" says the fly
Subject of 2 movies??
The Hustler and The Player
these old timers had terrible technique but they still made it work.
Milford Cubicle it isnt a terrible technique when it works...
Mark Tockloth that's debatable
+Milford Cubicle That's the problem with pool nowadays...to many hacks with their stupid little glove on, acting like they're smarter than everyone around the table...These guys didn't need that nonsense; these guys KNEW they were good...good enough to roll with anyone...And the one thing they had that almost no one has today, was swagger, REAL SWAGGER....
Surely you know more about pool than someone who has been playing for decades and wins tournaments.
Back in the 70s and early 80s it was an old man sport..!!!Why..???
These gus are good.
Minnesota fats is a legend in the game. Sorry he wasn't making every fucking shot at his "blind age"
Rather cut than bank
they aren't they are hustlers that played tournaments sometimes lol
lastopocket
Everybody hates winners
Fats looks like Archie Bunker.
it's Minnesota Fats from the movie the hustler!!! LOLOL
Puckett's stroke looks weird
any body notice the fly
Really?
No way??
Fats also fathered the late, great Etta James.
Jeff Hunker supposedly it's never actually been proved
Ahhh Shaddup....Who cares. Its like comparing Gene Krupa to Buddy Rich. Rich was better but Krupa had Pizzazz!!! So did Fats.
an audiance full of women. hilarious.
Get these on a snooker table would be laughable. Their technique was terrible!
7 ball - LOL! seems like a 7 ft table too.
Lots of pointless talking and both players have the worst stance i have seen.
And how big are those pockets?
kim bye they would both destroy you in any game u wanna play thats a fact . fatty was a beast
kim bye The pockets are much smaller than what the pro players play on now. The felt was slower too. Harder to stroke the ball on the slow felt of those days.
Tristan Booker the table is slower.yes but the pockets are bigger than today look it up
You have no idea what you're saying. Educate yourself first shit the sport then return.
It's a 9-ft table.
Puckett pushes the pool cue lack of experience sloppy shooter
its about what works not about what some book will tell you.
therealheyyous That's too true
+therealheyyous Couldn't have said it better myself....Perfect example is how Fats shot. He always shot standing straight up, which is unthinkable today. Back before ESPN wet woke and was obsessed with race-baiting at every opportunity.
