Actually, the Arabic word used to describe time in that particular verse has two meanings. One is of days and the other meaning is of a extended period of time. We, generally, accept the meaning of 6 long periods of time and not days. You can look it up if you want. There's other relevant material on this.

Not even unpopular according to almost every Abrahamic religion. Judaism obviously views Shabbat (Sabbath) as Saturday, as does Eastern Christianity.
Catholics and most Protestants consider Sunday to be "The Lords Day" and it is meant to observe the resurrection and is NOT the same thing as the Shabbat/Sabbath which is still considered to be Saturday. A few Protestant sects view Sunday as the Sabbath, but they are the minority view.
Most of Islam views the Sabbath as only being a required commandment for Jews, and they instead replace this with jumu'ah (Friday prayer). They still view the Sabbath as falling on Friday night/Saturday day though, and Indonesian Muslims observe Saturday as a rest day in the same way Jews do.

Christianity is just a continuation of these same beliefs. Romans 10 is a good description of whats happened before and after christ.
