Up until 0:45 you had a really good bit of impressionistic art. It looked like the sun seen through foliage. However, when you want a background to "lie down" use horizontal strokes. Cheers.

Could you please try drawing a hand holding another hand, like pulling the other hand from inside water. while 1 hand is in water, the other hand is outside water trying to pull it out.
