Yeah, I loved that stark contrast. EP2 as a whole is definitely more hopeful than HL2, so I liked that they showed there is still something worth fighting for on Earth, and that the Combine's hold is not as strong as we think.

It just dawned on me that striders kinda resemble Japanese spider crabs and dropships coconut crabs. Valve went into carcinisation big time. As is evolution making crabs 5 times wasn't enough xdd
Fun facts about the Combine Elites in the ambush: 1. These are, as far as I know, the only combine elites actually fought in Episode Two 2. They have a dirtied texture, like the regular combine soldiers, but it appears to have been scrapped 3. Whereas in Half-Life 2 and Episode One, they dropped combine ball ammo, in Episode Two, they drop batteries.
@@Sexy_Nutella I imagine that, if combine soldiers had appeared in the strider battle as planned, we would've seen the combine elites alongside the hunters and striders. The combine need to stop the resistance if they want their portal to work: why wouldn't they send only the best?
@@Sexy_Nutella that's what Overcharged tried to do with the White Forest Strider battle, and people hate that mod for how complicated it is. Although they had used a mix of both Elites and standard Overwatch Soldiers. My guess for a lore reason is that there probably aren't a whole lot of Elite Combine Soldiers left after the battle of City 17, or they're being kept in reserve and are only dispatched when needed to act as shock troopers rather than sending in whole squads of them. However they were supposed to appear in the final battle with the Striders and Hunters but the whiney playtesters found it too difficult so they were removed from the battle.
Nearing the end of the playthrough! The next chapter is probably going to be broken down into two parts, considering that the final battle is lengthy in itself.
Love the way Dog comes out and is like "Wreck everything! no one hurts my Alyx!" and..than he backs it up hard. Great cinematic moment. Also..just..great job on this whole walkthrough in general, I've been so into it today I didn't even realize when videos were swapping over, i'll have to go back and like the ones I passed through enraptured :D
I've been watching pretty much all your content since I heard about you from Soup Emporium, and the way you manage to imbue emotion even in these first person controls is incredible. Like, how Gordon normally nods to a command, but at 0:53 he just looks back between the resistance dude and Alyx. "Excuse YOU, don't put words in my mouth" LMAO
Thank you for the video - I never realized (or I forgot back from 2007) that the dropship with Strider was shot down a moments before you get to it. Nice
I would be the happiest man alive if they decided to make Half Life 3 to show off the Steam Deck. I really just want to see officially how Half Life ends
I always felt bad about killing the striders. Like human Combine soldiers they are clearly another conquered species forced to become a synth for the combine. The way they die and scream always bothered me
I personally haven't played MMod so I can't really comment on that. Though many have and they say it improves a lot of "quality of life" things in these games, so I'd give it a shot. Though I'd always play the base game first before trying any mods :)
