Developmental Venous Anomaly ("Venous Angioma") - a Vascular Malformation

  • Developmental venous anomalies (DVA) are the most common type of vascular malformation, present in just under 3% of adult patients. They are common "incidentalomas", and only rarely cause bleeding or symptoms. They may be associated with cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM) in up to 1/3 of patients. The increasing use of flow sensitive vascular MRI - such as susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) increases both the sensitivity and specificity for DVA. I have a history of migraines, usually right-sided, since I was a small child (now 61). In 2005 I finally saw a migraine specialist who ordered an MRI which discovered a suprasylvian right-sided developmental venous angioma. I was told this was not the cause of my migraines, although it is where the "ice pick" seems to be during a headache. Any thoughts?

Venous Angeoma , can it cause migraines, epilepsy and sleep paralysis? I was diagnosed years ago and all these symptoms are getting worse. I’ve also had lots of head trauma. I’m going for more sleep studies soon. Also diagnosed with sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

@@SelfReflective Yeah. Im 33 now and I had the stroke when I was 24. One night I have a headache but the next morning was worse. I had the worse headache ever. Doctors told me It coud be migraine be couse I didn't have any neurological symptoms. Six months later, after having problems to write, talk and walk, the doctors realized that day I had a stroke because of a venous angioma.

I just wanna know if you can get this from Traumatic Brain Injury in early childhood. My doctor won't tell me yes or no. I asked him point blank, told him about my repeated head trauma in early childhood and asked again, and he refused to commit to a yes or no. My general practitioner would only say "It isn't going to help."

You've just reminded me of it lol...I live my life, I was told by a neurosurgeon that there is nothing to worry about, my type of DVA does not cause problems...so, I'm plagued daily by thoughts of my imminent demise, but I keep buggering on.
