The Visit
OK firstly Lieutenant Gorman, in aliens, the whole point was that he’s a boot lieutenant. It was making fun of the fact that college graduates get put in charge of making decisions they’ve got zero experience in. over say a sergeant thats been in 5+ years or in the case of aliens, their sergeant, first class,Apone which is an E-7 rank typically takes about 15 years to get to at the very least for most.
Secondly, the entire paranormal activity franchise sucked they were about as scary as a dandelion. Those movies were all about jump scares, not scary, reactionary
Lastly, don’t breathe. It’s not a horror movie it’s a suspenseful thriller.
Personally, I've never gotten why Amanda from Saw doesn't make this sort of list sometimes. Out of all the Jigsaw Apprentices, I feel she's the dumbest by default.
She's already: been a drug addict, survived one trap that could have easily been fatal, works as an "Apprentice" for the man that nearly killed her, knows that she has a secret that could easily piss him off (i.e. that she accidentally helped Cecil cause John's ex-wife to miscarry their baby), yet she still also makes a point to make the traps unwinnable! I get why Hoffman was smart enough to try to black-mail her with that secret, since he wanted her dead.
At least, Hoffman has the excuse of being a psychopath with blood-lust as a reason to make many traps unwinnable! Jill's only going about her dead ex-husband's wishes to test Hoffman. Dr. Gordan has some level of logic behind his actions too (considering John Kramer was his patient, and did save his life at cost of only one leg and PTSD). Amanda literally has the least reason to actively choose to be an Apprentice in the first place.
This came to mind, "Good Choices - GEICO HORROR MOVIE COMMERCIAL"
naw, mayor vaughn from jaws was motivated by pure greed, and his chances for reelection (power). Idiots.
Honestly the fact that Micah is the only found footage character on here is a travesty. The list could easily be filled with nothing *but* found footage characters.
oof don’t even get me started mike and heather from the blair witch project stupidity at it’s prime mike threw the map in the creek making them completely lost and Heather had no sense of direction anyway not wanting to put the stupid camera down and help find a way out of the woods how’s that for a winning combo? lol
In Tatum's defense, the garage door switch was right by the door and Ghost Face was in front of said door. Her brain was so flooded with adrenaline that she saw the doggy door as her only option

@@sheridanroad2001 the garage was a ways away from the party filled with drunk teens. Plus they were all watching a horror movie so if they heard her screaming, they'd probably think it was from the movie
@@sheridanroad2001actually at that point in the party, they were playing music which was loud. I remember cause you can hear it blasting before and after the door opens when Tatum goes inside, and Ghostface comes out, cause the song is “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. No one would have heard her scream.
How about the brother from Evil Dead Rising? Kid opened a tightly bound chest surrounded with warnings containing an evil looking book. And it got his entire family killed (minus the aunt and youngest sister)
No to forget the aunt's unborn child survived as well.
Literally any person who hears a scary Noise from the other side of the door and Slowly walks to it to open it should be here
Or running upstairs to get away from the killer, to corner yourself so the only way out is to jump.
Or hears a noise in the basement and checks it out with nothing but a candle.

I’d like to argue that Trish tried to stop Darry from going down the tunnel where the body was dropped.
how about that entire family in the purge? splitting up, letting strangers in, not working together, no guns?
And the house wasn't even defensible. They were not just stupid, they were crazy.

Tatum in real life would have lived, because Rose McGowan actually could fit in the doggy door, which she was stapled into the door to stay put. Actually, it’s quite obvious she wasn’t that big, even in the final product. And she was actually…um…”cold up top”, so that wasn’t fake.

Dumb characters in horror movies are expected, but some actually hated Prometheus just for having dumb characters. Really, that's the reason 😯
I've notice almosy every fan refers to the Scream killer as Ghost Face, but that's just the nickname Tatum said, the actual costume package said Father Death 🙄
Ghost Face was actually an actual mask before the film and they asked the creator to use it, but after some of the other masks in the first film (the one used when the principal was murdered in the school) were actually made for the film before they got the rights to use the mask. I got a backpack with Ghost Face on it, and it is only credited to the creator, not the film’s distributors.

These guys were supposed to be scientists so then making such radically stupid decisions really was hard to ignore.
In defense of Allison, she was succumbing to the poisonous gas so her thinking wasn’t the most clear at the moment. She just saw what she thought was the key of her salvation and went for it without truly thinking it through.
The Stockboy in The Mist who just had to open the backdoor & ignored the Giant Tentacles creeping outside.
The main group should actually have never have even left the store at the end in the first place.

@kevinAM13 not to mention that the religious woman was dead and I don't think anyone in her group would be stupid enough to try any kind of revenge after seeing her get shot.

Plus when the military show up, kinda hard to explain why you were trying to perform some sort of human sacrifice to appease the elder gods, better to just clam up and say you don’t know why she’s dead now, maybe she got shot while someone was shooting at giant deadly bugs🤔
You simply CANNOT say that Barbara on Night of the Living Dead was stupid because she was so in shock that she was catatonic, it's not like she had a choice about her actions!

@@zacharyfrierson6972 well I thought her releasing the handbrake to get away from the zombie was quite clever. Also as she was the first character to arrive at the farmhouse she was hardly responsible for bringing the zombies there.
What else was Tatum supposed to do? Teleport outside? She couldn't go through the door bc it only opened from the other side she could only go through the cat door
But Cooper's comment makes more sense she wasn't thinking about the garage door opener

Completely disagree with Tatum being on here. Like other comments stating, what other option did she have? She fought and subdued the killer, but couldn’t go though the door being it was locked, so the pet door was her only option. My opinion, she should have lived.
She could have used the fact that he was out to her advantage and injured him or even killed him

It’s easy to say that when looking on the outside, but when you’re in a situation like that, you have no idea how you’re going to act. In her case, she did what she did and she was trying to get away-to live. Unfortunately it didn’t workout.

In Addison defense, the nerve gas was clouding everyone judgement.
The key was legit in the box I understand the gas was fuckin them up but if she botherd to read the note she'd probably have seen that and lived I can see jigsaw putting on it like congrats you get a freebe pretty much lol
Same with dude in the furnace in the basement obi I think his name was if he paid attention and twisted the valve he'd have lived and gotten 2 antidotes

I mean depending on if you consider Silence of the Lambs a horror movie that could be debatable. Also similarly to Scream, that movie has mostly smart characters who make reasonable bad decisions.
The joke I always make when someone asks why a character did something wrong is because the scriptwriter wanted someone to die that way 😂
I want to see a horror movie where there are smart characters, but still somehow die. Like the characters make smart decisions, but the villian is even smarter.

He could've killed his son after Father Brennan told him to but instead he did not and let everyone including himself die.
Look at it from Thorne's perspective. Some random priest comes up to you and tells you that your son is, not just evil but, the literal antichrist. He then says that in order to save the world from his thrall is to kill your kid. Anyone would see the dude as a mental case
There's a Damion in my extended family but deep down he's "such a wonderful little boy". This kid scared everyone and now he's a cop. How he passed the psych evaluation is beyond me.
And there was no way the garage door would have opened her weight and would automatically stop the door from killing her
All the characters in the van in Texas Chainsaw Massacre who picked up a creepy hitchhiiker who looked like a complete psychopath!

That guy in Jason X who says "Guys, it's okay. He just wanted his Machete back!"
Lowe was definitely the dumbest in that film. What he should have done was left Jason behind on Earth 1. Instead, he brings Jason on board the Grendel and causes the deaths of most of his students and the ship's crew.
Kinsa was pretty dumb too but she was also not in the right frame of mind after watching Jason kill Stoney as he was leaving her room after they had sex.
Let's be honest: in most, if not all, horror movies, the groups are bound to split up at some point, which is another sign that the worst is to come. But, hey, no one really cares about that part until (oops!) someone is eventually doomed in order for the villain to up the body count.

I wouldn’t consider Helen from I Know What You Did Last Summer to be a stupid horror movie character for turning around. She was overwhelmed with fear for her life and had no idea how far away her attacker was. To be honest, I’ve always liked her character more than Julie, the final girl of the movie. Helen was at least trying to move on with her life, even if was at a slower pace
Hey, that was fun. I've seen some of those. I've been interested of those old movies these days, and perhaps should find Barbra one. I like saw movie franchise. We had Ladies hangout day with frieds watching bunch of them ❤ I thought the Thing was one of the scariest movie I saw bback in the day. Also the Poltergeist was one amazing movie. Oh, Jeepers Creepers was my later in life scare movie experience ❤ I still remember where I saw the number one. About 14 years old in Lapland, Finland. It was amazing and perfectly scary experince that I hopefully remember forever.

The mayor in JAWS really should have been placed towards the bottom of the list insteat at the #1 spot for sure. For the worker in the 2019 CHILD'S PLAY film who at the beginning of the movie who disabled all safety controls on the iconic doll before it was shipped out would have been a much better fit for the #1 spot on this list.
I haven’t seen this countdown yet. I think Helen from I Know What You Did Last Summer should be on this list.

I don’t think Vaughn qualifies as stupid. He’s essentially just doing his job. Amity’s entire year is dependent on the summer tourist season. Yes he could have been more attentive to Brody and Hooper’s warnings, but don’t forget that the townspeople near revolted as well when it was announced the beaches would be closed

I think Mayor Larry Vaughn was the REAL villain, in "Jaws".
Love the countdown, but I think Larry's greed is mightier than his stupidity. I stand by what I have said since I first say Jeepers Creepers, Darry's decision to go back to the pipe is the dumbest decision EVER made in a horror movie. When it comes to Trish, she did try and stop him. I just think she should have made it clear in no uncertain terms that there is no way in hell she's going back to that pipe and Darry can't guilt her into it. I would switch 1 and 2.
Honorable mention to Quint in Jaws as well. Not only did he need a bigger boat, but he also blew up the engine of the Orca because he wouldn't slow down... 🤦♂️

In defense of the Thing, Clark honestly didn’t know the dog Thing was a shapeshifting creature. NONE of the twelve men knew what they were dealing with. Sure, they did try to go against each other during their survival, but this was more out of stress than anything certain.

250: Micah was pretty bad in Final Destination. I watched the entire franchise this year. Got scared for sure. His character wasn’t that bright and finding out how he died in the 5th installment
249: Yeah, I saw Alien: Covenant. Honestly, I liked the first two better. I don’t know what they were thinking in this movie

It’s funny to believe the “Freelings” to be the stupidest for “Poltergeist”, but then I think that’s why it’s a somewhat a horror comedy.
Don't forget the evil dead rising were blonde kid kinda take the necronomicon book on the bunker and tempering it and also put the recorder of the cantasion which they lead from there demise
How about Jessica Biel in the TCM Remake being the reason why all of her friends got killed.
Hayley Webb's character (forgot her name oop) in The Final Destination. The way she acted in the car wash scene...
I couldn't stand the 1968 version of Barbra. She's such an aggravating character. I prefer the 1990 version of Barbra in the remake because she's a strong-willed badass.

First you praise the movie "Aliens" by what it did for both a sequel and sci-fi genre and then you complain about both a character and their actions by ultimately saying: it should have been like this. In essence, you literally just said the movie is both the best overall and the worst for it's details.

Barbra I feel was weighed down by the tropes of the time
Two horror comedies have my favorite stupid characters. Army of Darkness Ash finally defeated the Deadite army, but did he have to make a bunch of stupid decisions to wake the damn things up in the first place. After all he should have written the damn words down. Second Buffy in Scary Movie. Let's face it she wasn't bright in the first place, but taunting a killer trying to kill you takes the cake. At least she was able to get one last quip in after she was decapitated and her head thrown into the garbage.
Mayor Vaughn had a better excuse for keeping the beaches open in the novel, but hey he get’s what’s coming to him in Jaws Unleashed
i think one character should've been mentioned is Melissa something from friday the 13th part 7 a new blood,since she cares about sex and didnt believe tina that water jogged undead jason was out at the door just to be axed in the face
