  • I had my surgery on Mar 24, 2015 for a herniated L5-S1 lumbar disc which caused intense sciatic pain in my left leg for over a year. Here's my experience so far. Check back for further updates.

Hi everyone. This is my old channel (can’t log in), and I haven’t checked my old vids/comments in a long time. I’m 6 years post-op. No regrets in doing the surgery, I just wish someone had told me the importance of stretching long ago...might have avoided the bulged disc. Anyway, I still have tightness in the lower back and of course heavy lifting/long periods of sitting are still sources of discomfort. Feet together, stretch and toe touches are my go-to relief. Avoid the sitting. Good luck.

I hope you are continuing to heal.. I'm now facing surgery number 7, and the 4th fusion.. l2 thru s1.. the past five years have been he'll, though I try hard to still be a good Dad, husband and company CEO. On the positive side, my core is rock strong after many rounds of pt. Despite much pain, it could be worse and I too feel that I'm a blessed man. Hopefully no. 7.. another fusion, will go well. If anyone is willing--say a prayer for me; I will do the same for you Brody!! Very best, Frank William Bruno

Isn't it remarkable the surgery they do today that would have put you in a hospital for a week or more in the past, and now you're out in the same day. Congrads on the outcome so far. I had an artificial disc replacement almost 2 years ago in my neck (C4-C5), replacing a herniated disc that I put off for almost 2 years after a bad car accident, that almost took all my feeling in my left arm/hand and a good deal of the feeling in the right hand. I walked out the same day of the surgery. Today virtually all the feeling has come back (except numbness in the left pinky and a little numbness in the finger next to it), as well as head movement that I had before the accident. The only thing I regret is not having done it sooner.

Hey Brody, my mom had a similar issue and I did some research on it, as I'm sure you've done for yourself. Once the sciatic nerve is freed from the pinch, blood flow will nourish and restore you to full function. After your recovery, regular exercise and stretches will help. Thanks for posting and best wishes in your recovery.

@@freestylebully4849 So, about 10 years into it now; I have a "protruding disc" in the L5S1 and the pain runs through my entire spine from top to bottom and down my legs a little bit. And for me generally everything hurts :( So, I was told by several doctors in my journey that I'm simply too young for the surgery (I'm 37 now, so I was prob 30ish when I was looking into it) and so I've had no surgery. Although, I've had the RFA which is where they burn some of the nerves out around the affected disc. But, it didn't help me. HOWEVER, I'm so glad to say that I recently came across some medical stuff that has actually started legitimately helping me for the first time in all these years! I could say a lot about it but basically the work and teaching of Dr. John Sarno, Dr. Howard Schubiner, and a guy on CZcams called "Pain Free You" Dan Buglio; there material has caused my pain to decrease dramatically and it's only continually getting better, and that's after a few months of jumping into their stuff. I can't recommend what they do highly enough. As a matter of fact, I know that some celebrities have recovered from back pain issues b/c of them. I don't remember all of them but I know that Howard Stern is one of them. Really hope this helps!!! Many Blessings!

Hey there Brody.. Frank here... I waa lifting cat litter boxes 8 years ago and blew out the disc at L4/5. Pain in my spine and right leg down to my knee.. my first 3 surgeries were all micro-discectomy pricedures.. apparently the surgeon who did those 3 took out too much structure. I went to another neurosurgeon in Denver and he said I needed a series of fusions to stabilize my spine. I am now fused 7 surgeries later from L1 to S1. That surgeon looked at my imaging and asked me:"what happened when you were a kid?" Well, I'd forgotten that I fell out of a 2nd story window when I was 2. So it is now November of 2020 and my 3rd surgeon is expecting T12/L1 to blow out very soon.. I'll keep you posted.. but prayers and blessings your way!!

@@christian6388 it’s been about 7weeks. 2 weeks ago I had pins and needles in my right leg. But that’s normal. Decided to get back to swimming and infected the wound so had to go on antibiotics that’s cleared up ok. The nurse put the wind up me a little as I went back to bike racing after 3 weeks and rode a motorcycle to the post surgery interview, she was not impressed. It’s the fall not the action, she said. So I stopped doing any exercise and walk the dog.
She did remind me of that PAIN !
Another 2 weeks and I’ll start exercising again . For me it was a gradual build up over 12 months before it got really bad. I thought it was due to complications with a double hip replacement. I thought I’d be able to push through it…. But nope.
Over the last 5 years Ive had double Capel tunnel surgery, double hip replacement, colonoscopy x2, detached retina, blood clots lower legs, knee surgery x3. This was by far the best one for pain relief and coming out of anaesthetic. Zero pain and no after groggy feeling.
