    Just to clarify for everyone, if the quest says to hunt you can either kill or capture, if it says capture you can not kill at all or fail, and finally if it says slay you must kill the monster; I hope this helps 👍

      Lee Anderson you are correct, he did say that you can capture on slay, but your quest will fail if you do. You can use the trap to stop them and smack it into a pulp.(except elders)

    • @jerdasaurusrex557

      @@tonyvfx Any slay missions will always either be elder dragons or small monsters. Neither of which you can capture anyway. So no. You literally can't fail a slay mission by capturing them.

    If it is weak enough to be captured, there should be a skull sign on the mini map. Sometimes it doesn't appear when you are murdericing the monster too fast.

    • @BrothaMan831
      @BrothaMan831 Před 6 lety +4

      You can look at it's portrait on the bottom left next to the map and You can see how close to death it is by it's heartbeat.

      @JeffAndresWilliams Před 6 lety

      I've also noticed that the skull doesn't appear until the monster starts limping away. I've killed a few because I didn't give them the chance to run away and I thought they were still in the fight.

      @riogutierrez8326 Před 6 lety

      Michael Lenzenweger Another way to know when it's weak is when the monster drops some manner of slinger ammo (bomb, pierce, etc).

  • @AJofCA
    @AJofCA Před 6 lety +195

    They also added a "heartbeat" feature at the bottom left that tells you how the monster is doing. If its flat lining, obviously its time to cap. Hope this helps.

    • @luvcornishpasties
      @luvcornishpasties Před 6 lety +16

      Aaron this is its stamina not its health this is not a way to know if you can capture. The indicator is a skull on the minimap around the monster or observe it limping. Do not use the heart beat line

    • @pushyrummble8625
      @pushyrummble8625 Před 6 lety +7

      Jowan Blamey it's his heart beat when they run out of stamina their heart slows down, when it's enraged it faster, if they're casually attacking you and their heartbeat is almost a flat line they have low health.

    • @confusedlemur12
      @confusedlemur12 Před 6 lety +2

      ive never had any luck with that line so unless you have it down to AN EXACT SCIENCE then you may fuck up and waste a trap whoch may or may not screw you over so go with the limping its just easier that way or watch for the skull

      That isnt true they enrage with fast heart beat and exhausted when flat lined. Hell I even seen limping and couldn’t cap. Only thing I rely on now is a skull icon or if they go to their nest to sleep. Sometimes a skull appears and sometimes it doesnt

    As people have said, skull on the minimap is guaranteed.
    So is the second special ammo drop.
    Most monsters drop their first special ammo at 30% hp, second at 20%hp, etc. They need to be in their bottom 25% of health. They do not *need* to limp.
    If you've seen the second ammo drop, they're definitely going to be ready for capture.

    Be aware that certain monsters actually have a higher carve percentage for a particular part when in comparison capping.
    Example of values Rathian
    Carve
    Scale+ 38%
    Rathian Carapace 25%
    Inferno Sac 12%
    Rathian Webbing 12%
    Rathian Spike 8%
    Rathian Spike+ 5%
    Cap
    Rathian Carapace 30%
    Rathian Scale+ x2 22%
    Inferno Sac 15%
    Rath Medulla 13%
    Rath Marrow 13%
    Rathian Plate 4%
    Rathian Ruby 3%
    Now these values change on each monsters.

      Reggie N, I capture every monster on the map every quest I do, not including Elders. Capturing is the best way to go, no matter what. The trick is to break as many parts of it's body that you can before they are in the "skulls" state. By breaking it's body parts, it guarantees almost every item of the part that is broken.

    • @diegob1600
      @diegob1600 Před 6 lety +1

      Reggie N where’d you find these values tho bc i could use a reference for this stuff

    • @reggien4165
      @reggien4165 Před 6 lety +1

      Those were from the last game release. Values you can find from Gaijin Hunter if you need up to date information. I was just listing an example from an earlier release. The numbers will more than likely changed in this game, however, you'll find that what I was saying will still apply. Carves will likely have a higher percent for particular parts versus capture.
      Honestly, though the rare materials are the same percentage in this version after checking.
      I think this is to make it more acceptable to the populace, it's just easy mode to our Monster Hunter veterans. I'm down for whatever gets the game more popular though. Previous editions monsters like the Gigginox had higher carve rate for unnerving talon then the capture did.

      Reggie N Actually in MHW (I haven't played any previous) the loot tabls for carve and capture rewards are the same. There's no higher percentage for Carves. That is if kiranico is to be believed ;)

    One thing he failed to mention is the map icons. Which is the best way to know when they're ready to be trapped.
    Once the monster's map icon starts displaying "skulls", it is ready to be captured. From what I have experienced (may be different with patches, I play offline, and have none of the patches yet), when they get to this state, they will not come out of it.
    I try to capture all 3 monsters on the map in every quest, investigation, and expedition I part out on. For instance, say I have a quest to hunt a Legiana. I usualky go after Poalumu and Tzi first, but if I run into Legi first, I will damage her until she is in the "skulls" state, then I will leave her alone and go capture the other 2, before heading back to capture Legi. It doesn't matter if they go to sleep, and I actually prefer that they do because then you just put a shock trap down and tranq them. Simple

    Just letting you know, carve-only rewards only involve the breaks/severs. Severed tails are notorious for this. Other than that, capture/kill reaps the same rewards as long as parts are broken. Killing them allows you the opportunity to break more parts, whilst capturing them will allow you to end the fight faster since they are in limp status at around 20-30% health.
    Anectodal evidence includes getting Barroth Ridges without having to break his crown, but I couldn't get Garon Tails without cutting it and carving it.

    So i just had my first encounter with a Radobaan, that big spiky bastard that spins around. Anyway, i've been going through the story and finding it easier to capture them when you're forced to encounter them than during investigations. Now another thing that made this encounter unique is that i used a pitfall trap at the end (wasted a shock trap earlier) and i didnt need to use a tranq bomb. It fell into the pit and that was it. So, when you have a monster close to death, and it's a "charger" type attacker, bait it with a pitfall trap. Let me know if it works for you.

    While the monster runs away you should try to grapple onto legs and your character wil do a quick combo that will severly cripple a limb.

    You covered all the bases Tag! 👍 What tree are those Dual Blades in? I main insect glaive but I do love dual blades! I'll be finishing the story and low rank this weekend with my squad and we want to make sure there's a good foundation in place before we move forward.

      TAGameplay I use the IG too. I don't like dual blades because the range on them is pathetic. Just a tip though, go for the fastest bug. 99% of time the fastest bug is the best bug.

    You can still use the palarang to get scales and stuff from the monster with your palico

  • @unhappyotter
    @unhappyotter Před 6 lety

    For all monsters if you want more hide scales, and other outer parts you get more of when you trap. Although I've noticed that you get less fangs and claws than normal from anjanath, odogaron, ratholos, and rathian. I've captured 5 anjanaths and I still don't have enough fangs and claws to upgrade my weapon. Other than that traping is the best way to get extra external loot.

    You know it's good to grab trap tools and amo from the box cuz they stay with you unlike the ez type tools also capture quests give you 2 trap tools so it's a good way to farm them because they cost 200 zip a piece.

    You actually have more chance to get rare carves when you capture a monster, back in mhfu traps and tranq bombs are your best friends, also paint balls

    Just wait until the little skull symbol appears next to their avatar on the mini map or the world map. That's the easiest way to tell when they are ready

    Actually just hit it with everything you've got until it limps away to its resting area. That being said, players with high burst damage weapons (great sword, gunlance, etc) have to be careful, as you might kill the monster by accident.
    You can throw 2 tranq bombs first before you place the trap for capture. The tranq lasts longer as compared to the trap incase of screw-ups. If im not mistaken more tranqs will be required if the tranq effect wears off.
    A skull will appear on the map if the monster is about to die and you can capture it. Not sure if it appears with low research level.
    Also, monsters have its own stamina bar like that of players. It only recovers by sleeping/eating/going on rage. Nothing to do with capturing. That being said, you can use things like tainted meat to instantly inflict status on them. Do note that they recover stamina after eating those said meats too.

      Geets mmm... Usually it's not an issue to me personally unless i forgot that it is a capture quest or that the monster did not limp away due to staggering as it was about to limp away which is kind of rare for the latter. Personally, for the lower teir monsters they will leave the innitial area and head back limping. Might be that I do not have an optimal set to dish out the highest amount of damage.
