The Gaggan Emoji Menu - Asia's Best Restaurant 2015-2018

- The Gaggan lab experience is unlike any other restaurant meal in the world. In 2,5 hours, you are bombarded with flavors and impressions, represented by 25 emojis that make out the menu. Some of the symbols make sense, others will surprise you. Chef Gaggan Anand has been richly rewarded for his progressive Indian fine dining concept. For the last four consecutive years, in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, Gaggan was voted Asia's Best Restaurant. This year, they got the 5th place on the World's 50 Best-list, and, in 2017, the restaurant was awarded two Michelin-stars by the French culinary Bible.

The first 45 secs, the absolute truth.
Gaggan tells it straight up!
The Weirdest flavor combinations I've ever seen. But Clearly he's doing something right. 3 michelin stars and best resturent in Asia for 4 consecutive years. This man's on a whole new level of abstract creativity... And yes, the portions are tiny, but you gotta understand how many courses there are in total....Yea, you're spending more time with more courses than one big meal, but people go there with time on their hands for a whole experience. The expense though, is out of most of our leagues....but makes sense because of the quality of the ingredients, dishes and the experience as a whole. Maybe once or twice in a normal persons lifetime, it's actually worth it to go
Agree with your points here, it's well summed up. PS: Still only 2 Michelin Stars, maybe 3 this year
@@andersandkaitlin Oh, I heard he's closing up in 2020, so I thought he had already reached the pinnacle of the food world. Anyway, recieving and maintianing 2 michelin stars specially at that level isn't easy.
Alex Jones Is a Lame Troll. Very true. And he might close this year already :(
Looking at these items as an Indian, I'm surprised how he turned normal Indian dishes and desserts into something special. Amazing
Happy to hear that! It's always nice when modernization of a dish is successful.
normal indian dishes and desserts are special already. Culture and time are the foundation of everything good in the culinary world.
What he said in the beginning is absolutely true. We would much rather take the company of our phones and save photos for future purposes yet you completely missed the present and passed on completely immersing yourself on real life experience. This people prefer to flaunt the fact they went to a fancy michelin star restaurant than actually experiencing food and see the chef's artistic vision. As for Gaggan he is a culinary genius. And amazing videography and documentation on every restaurant you've been. Hats off to you sir!
Yes, these people do exist. We obviously document our meals with photos and even videos, but the goal is always to be present during the meal. No phones or live posting. Thanks for the kind words!
Sad what he says at the beginning
Also a bit funny. That's why he made the emoji menu, to please those with short attention span :)
Nice, what a awesome chef you were lucky to eat at his restaurant, great content on your channel keep it up!
Thanks! Will do :)
I believe that if there is a portal with professional pictures of all the dishes, noone would feel the need to take pictures of their plate. I certainly wouldn't
@@TyrionDies Sorry, but in my opinion, that makes absolutely no sense. If people wanted professional photos, they could use the ones from the restaurant's websites. It is not about having access to quality photos. It's about capturing your own memories, and for amateur or professional photographers it's about getting a better shot than others.
I chortled for a solid minute when he said Rest In Peace at the beginning
Michael Sutherland Jr. Haha, yeah, me too.
The Emoji Menu looks like another Gaggan special.
Did not know of the "Gagan Lab" until I saw this video - thanks for sharing!
Yeah, the lab is a 14-seat counter-dining experience. The best of Gaggan :)
This is a really great video, you really took the time to show off Gaggan's genius. Well done.
Thanks, happy you liked it!
Great vid. Thanks for uploading it.
Thanks for watching!
Now I remember I stayed in Marriott apartments hotel next to his restaurant.
I travel for food.
Gaggan restaurant was bit inside from the main road isolated , it was lunch time I went there with my wife and kid, it was the nearest Indian restaurant and had very good reviews nothing was mentioned in details on trip advisor or maybe I missed, to my surprise the guy in the lobby told me they are only open for dinner and you need advanced booking about 3 months or so... I was disappointed and I thought maybe he is joking or we are not welcome there,
There were many nice high end Indian restaurants nearby who greeted us happily.
But it's only today I realize that the gentleman was talking the truth about the reservation.
I never knew one of the finest Asian restaurant was setup on a peaceful backyard.
But today iam very happy to know an Indian chef have made such a great achievement and took our food culture to the peak.
When you are really done with those rich hash tag loving crowd, and you have any passion left try something for we food loving people at least we guarantee 100 pct attention.
Stay blessed and work hard for your passion. Good luck for your dream restaurant in Japan.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story!
Loved this
Last chance to experience this now as he closes in just one year!
I never saw excellance at such a peak.✌️🤩
Gaggan delivers! Go before he closes.
Watching highly complicated dishes, while eating fried eggs =P
you have one of the best composed food channels out! the word "full" is quite relative when taking about food, but i wonder if you're hungry after these "small" plates .
Thanks! Yes, after 25 dishes, some small bites, other larger, you are definitely full at Gaggan :)
Brilliance at its finest.
Gaggan delivers!
best foodie channel
Thanks
Been waiting for this. Yay!!! Would have liked some description about the flavors of the dishes though. But nonetheless good video. Love Gaggan, Love Anders
Thanks :) Well, I think there's only so much info you can pack into a video without doing voiceovers or other stuff that would alter the style I'm currently doing, but I appreciate the feedback. For now, you'll have to read the descriptions here: andershusa.com/emoji-madness-at-asia-best-restaurant-gaggan-in-bangkok-progressive-indian-cuisine
Foodie Stories by Anders Husa Thanks a lot Anders
I was there new years eve 2017/18 and had this exact menu. I was a little disapointed with the constant flavor of curry so in the end you feel the only thing you got was curry!
Er jeg helt forkert på den anders?
This new years eve i will go to mezzaluna and see and compare
You were there just before me, yeah. I didn't feel the menu was that dominated by curry, but it was definitely Indian flavors. I liked it :)
consistently fantastic videos! keep it up!
Thanks!
Please make one if you get the chance to go to Narisawa at Tokyo! Fantastic too. Love your videos btw :)
Thanks a lot! :)

Looks very interesting 🙏👍💪i really would Like to eat there.great Video ✌️
You should! He has a new restaurant now: Gaggan Anand.
They are on their phones bc they wanted to share ur amazing food I guess 🤣 btw I wanted to taste Gaggan foods ❤️
That's why he made the emoji menu, to satisfy all the Instagrammers :)
It’s a bit sad if they’re more interested in letting everyone know that they’re on a fancy restaurant, than actually enjoying being there and paying attention to the chef, though
Ya but here imp point is one who dedicates his life and passion on single work and he loves it from bottom of his heart
Then it's quite obvious that the one who he serves must respect that food and enjoy and collect this extraordinary experience in brain rather that using phone !
Liked it cuz i love it.
Thanks!
Truth yaar
"Rest in peace"
Yup
You, yes you were scrolling and reading comments, didn't pay attention to gagan

Thanks for watching!
Nice
He literally turned usual Indian items to a crazy platted sexy lookin cozy food! 🔥
YES!
He makes me a proud bengali / Indian ❤️
Gaggan is awesome. :)
To me, it seems like three Michelin starred restaurants have smaller portions than two or one starred ones. It may be because the ingredients are expensive or because a small food item delivers a lot of flavor, but I think larger portions are better. I'd go to this place at least once when I'm old enough.
Edit: I've had uni before, it tastes weird...
I can enjoy both these long multi-course tasting menus, and shorter menus with bigger plates. Each style has its charm. Uni is definitely an aquired taste. Also, if you eat a bad uni, you get scarred for a long time. All I can say is, try it again and make sure it's a good restaurant serving it :)
In general, 3 Michelin star restaurants tend to prefer quality to quantity
They’re gonna close in 2020
I'm sorry but have you ever had a tasting menu. There are 12 courses or upwards. If each dish were as large as a normal restaurant you won't be able to finish the meal.
uni tastes quite different depending on the season and variety. Spanish / japanese / australian. Time of year etc.
nice
Oh nice aperitivo
Indeed!
I just realised all of this modern food is like kids play dough
Yeah, learn to play with food :D
if gaggan anand wanted to tell me anything i'd drop whatever the fuck i'm doing and making sure i'm listening
He's super interesting to listen to! Bursting of passion and great stories.
@@andersandkaitlin honestly super jealous of you, wish i was in your shoes
I think I like this better than mukbang 😂 I’m shocked but it’s so fancy
Haha, glad you like it. :)
Anders Husa & Kaitlin Orr not that it’s my place to ask because it’s none of my business but how may one be apart of these tastings and also if I may ask what are your top 10 favorite restaurants and why?
I just respect the hell out of fine dining but never inquired the budget for it.
I went in January , it was impressive and the attention to detail fantastic. Not at the same level as Suhring though IMO.
I liked both, but probably favored Gaggan slightly :)
Foodie Stories by Anders Husa I suppose it depends on the menu at that given time. Have you been to Tickets in Barcelona ? That’s a cut above both, an absolute nightmare to get a booking but well worth it.
I had my wife and I booked after weeks of trying , at the time I was on the waiting list for the Barcelona v Real Madrid football match......got accepted two days after getting the tickets reservation. Both started at the same time :-(
I've been to Tickets. Loved it. You went to that and skipped the football match, yeah?
Foodie Stories by Anders Husa if I took the match over the food, I was single again bud. I've subscribed mate, great channel, best of luck.
Foodie Stories by Anders Husa next time your in Bkk, of you wish, check out JP french restaurant (amazing Beef wellington), or the new one R-Haan, Thai fusion on Thong lo.
What makes a great restaurant experience?
So many things. Great flavors and well-cooked food, first and foremost, but most restaurants at this level nails that pretty easily. Thus, fun presentations, music, and theatrics can be added like at Gaggan.
WoW

Expensive is relative. At $150 this is one of the cheaper meals in this category.
I wonder what it costs..?
The tasting menu was really cheap at this point, around $150.

Real life The Menu movie.
Says every YT comment about any fine dining restaurant right now. 🤣
@@andersandkaitlin I was not trying to be a smartarse there, mate.
I watched The Menu last week, & yesterday I was searching for Gaggan because he is visiting India, & one of my mates is planning on going to his gig. But I was aghast by the price of the meal. 50K Indian Ruppes (basically couple of dozen less than my monthly salary). So I was curious.
You have made a nice video, but it did remind me of The Menu movie. As you can tell I haven't done any of such expensive meals. But it's fascinating, & I admire the chef for taking his craft so seriously.
@@achyuta4206 Haha, sorry, just a little tired from replying to the same comment. You'll probably find that a lot of the videos on our channel remind you of The Menu. Some of them (e.g. Noma) was among the direct inspiration. And, yes, these meals are expensive, especially seen in relation to the economy in certain countries.
Firstly, I am a vegetarian
Secondly I don't consume alcohol
Thirdly I can't afford it
Well, that settles it. You're not going here! ;)
3:25 I've never seen so much of somebody's tongue eat something

Any discounts for indians?😂
No clue, ask Gaggan ;P
I would rather go to a buffet
You are free to do so! :)
1.20 💦💦💦
Is that all it took?
"Asia's Best Restaurant" is an insanely broad and subjective label! Probably in a modern fine-dining and culinary-innovation sense Gaggan can have a claim to the crown. Other than that, cool video.
It's simply the award he got from the World's 50 Best Restaurants-organization four years in a row. You can disagree :)
@@andersandkaitlin I know bro I understand. Cheers
Victor Ha no probs!
i would honestly rather ask the guy at mcdonlads to make me a custom burger, anything he can think of
Go ahead.
nah
ok
That woud be $1240.50 please
A zero too many, maybe. Not saying it’s cheap, but Gaggan is quite affordable for most people who have an interest in these kind of restaurants.
Clearly, my concept of good food, fulfilling food and enjoyable food differ from pretentious people.
Clearly. And I say that on behalf of all pretentious people. We are people too.
Never denied pretentious humans are people, and if you have the money to enjoy such an experience, go ahead, none of my concern. I'm just commenting hoping to find validation for the way I think. Are there people who agree a 10-25 dollar pizza is more worth it than this whole experience? Are there people who feel they'll be pretending and not being themselves in that sort of pretentious environment?
Nimthemrei Luikham I think anybody that spends more than I do on Bread and Butter for each meal is pretentious. A 10-25$ pizza is a waste of money if I can enjoy a whole loaf of Bread with Butter for little over 2-3$. But maybe that‘s just because I‘m too poor for a Pizza.
I hope you realize how stupid your whole argument is. Calling fine dining pretentious either stems from your jealousy or lack of knowledge. It‘s not about getting full so don‘t compare it to normal dining. It‘s an experience. People pay more for concerts than people pay for Fine Dining and yet it‘s totally normal? Why? You can sit at home and listen to the same song over Spotify for 4.99$ a month. Do you call every person going to a concert pretentious? Probably not. So either you are a hypocrite or haven‘t thought all of this through.
