👏👏👏👏👏:) I'm living vicariously through your yummy gardening adventures Stacy!! I'm amazed how your garden stands up pretty well to what I hear is Portmore's harsh/really hot sun! Quick question - Do you provide any shade at all for your garden beds from the sun to prevent them from drying up?
Thank you for stopping by! Great question and I can tell you it hasn't been easy. I have to water twice per day, moreso for small crops. But when I just transplanted the baby lettuce and pakchoi mix, I had to cover them from the hot sun. I just used a garbage bag with 4 clothes pins and punched holes on the top. I "rolled back" the plastic bag when I wanted them to get the good sun. The seedlings grew up and in no time I didn't have to cover them anymore. But water in the early morning and about sunset. I did lose a few seedlings in the earlier days due to the heat especially I started planting during the summer! Pumpkins did well but watermelon dried to a crisp!!! Keep enjoying the journey with me, but remember you can plant in pots. Check out @gardeningwithstacey who also lives in portmore and grows in pots!!! She has the touch 😁
@@StacyPersonallySpeaking Lettuce is a cool weather crop....and they love moisture. Maybe the soil dried out or maybe they should have been harvested before now....can't say for sure, I still struggle with growing them myself.

I didn't know what I was going to do with so much lettuce so I didn't start harvesting until long after LOL. but its still tastes great! Thank you.
I actually started them in potting mix in one of those foam trays and when they had gotten big enough, I transferred them to the plot I'd prepared. I built a little shade for them too because the sun was harsh on them. All the best!
I think I just realised what you meant by over seeded. I also over seeded and this caused pest management to be next to impossible. Worms love the pak choy so ensure adequately spaced. I hate thinning my plants but in the long run it's the best option if they weren't seeded in their own space to begin with. I actually used a salad mix and I couldn't bother to plant one one seeds 🥴. Better to put EACH SEED in its own little space!!!

Those plants are one of the easiest to grow. Just throw the seeds! LOL.
The lettuce growing up is a sign of it bolting....going to seed.

I just planted Pak Choy seeds and they don't look right. What's your secret? Did you just plant them directly in the soil?
