It's pretty cool getting to see the mechanics of the the bells as they chime. It's a good thing nobody was actually up there when they were ringing. I'm sure they're loud as hell. :D lol
If you listen carefully, you can hear the weights winding down as the melody fades before Big Ben strikes the hour. Then you can hear another weight winding down as the twelfth stroke fades to silence, then up goes a cheer!
I'm sure you could really feel the vibration when Big Ben chimes, specially when you're actually inside the part of the tower where the bell is! :))) Like, you'd feel it under your feet and maybe even in your chest.
You surely are also aware that the loudness of Big Ben is enough to damage the human ears quite badly too It is well known the noise level of Big Ben is 118 Decibels(well above the 95 human ears limit)
A number of tornado sirens use this chime without a single major dings at the end of the chime and if heard a home run at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx New York United States they use it after a civil defense siren sounds off as the home run siren with music and crowds screaming and cheering in celebration of a home run victory. Westminster chimes are very common for a number of things besides clocks like the grand ole big ben
Fun fact: When this clock tower was first built, it was named as the Clock Tower, but in 2012, it was officially renamed to the Elizabeth Tower, but many people still refer to the entire tower as Big Ben. The name Big Ben actually refers to the large bell in the very center, in the Belfry.
Ooh, we love that sound! It always generates excitement!

they are because when bells are ringing they can be louder then a jetplane taking off
At least 118 decibels, right?
@@Martin_L478 yes you are totally correct and that is way beyond the limit for human ears
@stephensnell5707
Hopefully whoever was filming this video had really good soundproof headphones.

You mean the mechanism?
What an absolutely beautiful 13.7 tonne bell with its own 200 kg hammer. The 4 quater bells are equally beautiful too.
The Big Ben Bell is actually 13.5 tonnes not 13.7
He was close don’t just say something about the smallest mistake in the world

The Big Quarter Bell has 2 hammers.
That is because the Note on the biggest quarter bell had to be played twice abd to ensure no delay that is the reason it has 2 Hammers
I heard they were going to do some restoration on Big Ben. Have they finished it yet? Love to hear it and see it working again
