  • Nadine Dorries resigns from her Commons seat with blistering attack on Rishi Sunak: MP accuses him of putting her personal safety at risk by 'whipping up a public frenzy' against her. The the former Cabinet Minister accuses Mr Sunak of betraying Tory principles and behaving irresponsibly, putting her personal safety at risk. Ms Dorries - who had declared in June that she would leave her Mid-Bedfordshire seat with 'immediate effect', but failed to do so until this weekend - revealed that the police had visited her home last week to warn her about a threat to her personal security.

There is no such thing as ‘the Tories’. All political parties are made up of MPs who hold a mixture of views. Some Conservatives are very socialist, some Labour are very conservative in their views. I am a socialist, but would not vote Labour, as I know that on the whole they would be very bad for the country, as they support the shiftless and the idle! Nadine Dorries is resigning because she didn’t get a peerage and was a Boris supporter, and she hasn’t the grace just to accept that and step away. Like many MPs, but by no means all, she has a sense of entitlement and sees being an MP as an opportunity for personal advancement and not being a servant to her constituents.

The Unions would also have a large say in policy, and I have been a union man +rep all my life, but I know that the leaders of many unions are not really interested in their member’s future, just political goals.

When she speaks of 4 prime ministers leaving office without losing a general election, she's forgetting Eden, Macmillan, Wilson, Thatcher, and Blair. So not quite as bizarre as she suggested.

Since 1945, the following PMs left office without losing an election
      Churchill (1955)
      Eden
      MacMillan
      Wilson
      Thatcher
      Blair
      Cameron
      May
      Truss
      7 Tory, 2 Labour.
      More proof of Dorries' imbecility.

Nadine makes her own problems..All started when she didn’t do anything..What exactly had been her achievements.?Besides talking herself up and fail at attacking Channel4 for having a news program, which she viewed as dangerous..The next culture secretary threw that out laughing at it,nearly on day one of getting the job..
Nadine still bigs up Liz Truss.?.Well,,yeah..That also says volumes..Also the public hasn’t been whipped up as most found Nadine just plain annoying as well as of not much use..
I predict her book will be wrote in tears and lemon juice and it’s interest will last all of a week..There’s nothing left here for any to watch and listen to anymore..Only hopefully British politics will be a little bit better off..It’s clear the House of Lords will be..

If I may correct one thing which Nadine mentioned - she said that there had been 4 PMs who had been forced to resign but who hadn't lost an election. I make it 3 PMs, namely:
    1) Theresa May
    2) Boris Johnson
    3) Liz Truss
Who is the 4th one? Is she referring to Maggie Thatcher? That was a while ago now -1990 to be precise. I guess I'll give Nadine the benefit of the doubt on that one.
In each case there were reasons why the Conservative Party decided to get rid of these leaders:
    * Liz Truss for causing a massive shock to the markets which put up interest rates and badly effected the UK economy. Her plans/Kwasi Kwatreng's plans were *uncosted* - this was incredibly naive of them. She has greatly damaged the Conservative Party and the country.
    * Boris Johnson not only for 'Partygate' but for defending Owen Paterson. He too has greatly damaged the reputation of the Tory Party, and the UK on the International stage.
    * Theresa May for failing to 'Get Brexit Done.'
And, back in 1990, Margaret Thatcher for becoming an electoral liablity due to her becoming increasingly unpopular and increasingly autocratic in her leadership style.
It will take decades for the Tory Party to regain a reputation for competent governence and fiscal prudence.
Nadine Dorries in correct in her criticism of Sunak - but wrong in her upholding of Johnson and Truss.
IMO the last really competent leader the Tory Party had was Harold MacMillan.
If they could find a modern-day MacMillan type figure, then maybe in 10 or 15 years time they might have some kind of chance of getting back into power. But with the likes of Braverman, Badenoch and Coffey all hoping to get the top job, the Tories are making themselves unelectable.
And with Sunak at the helm, the Tories haven't got a cat in hell's chance of winning the next election.

Dorries won 58.9% of votes in her last election. Perhaps those voters should consider if voting for a specific party, not the best candidate, is really a viable strategy. Her absence from Parliament was a gain for parliamentary standards, but her failure to represent constituents is a damning indictment of her.

This woman really does not understand that she should be actually working in Parliament and not ‘juggling’ her various vanity projects/interests. My ex husband was an M.P. And worked for his constituency seven days a week. He had ONE job and not enough hours to do that ONE job as he thought it should be done. He gave up his whole life for his job. Dorries should be ashamed to show her face let alone try to justify herself whilst promoting the book she has just finished writing when she should have been representing her constituency and doing the job she is paid to do. She was promoted way beyond her level of competency by her incompetent and self serving boss, who ditched her when it suited him. How her constituents have put up with her for so long is beyond belief. She can’t go soon enough.
