"Consistency through passion" is pretty much the only thing that keeps my photography hobby alive at the moment. When you have two little kids and a full time job, it is really hard to make extra time. If you don't truly love it, it's not gonna happen. This advice nails it perfectly. Thank you for your fantastic videos!

Thank you Laura! You are a real inspiration. My camera only lives in my camera bag when it is traveling and even then it is normally outside of the bag in case I see something. It sits on ready on the kitchen cabinet and I grab it whenever I walk out into the yard. I generally take around 20 - 100 images a week when I don't have an event or go out for some wildlife photography. I just don't know what to do with these images.
I love the advice of doing something every day to move towards a goal, even if it is something small.

another tip: KNOW YOUR CAMERA and your lenses
what are the capabilities and limitations? try different settings to achieve different looks. i only work in manual mode and highly recommend this to learn as much as you can so you're not caught by surprise when that magical shot presents itself
Earlier this year I was organizing my home office and pulled out my old cameras Nikon D90. Canon Point & Shoot and Fuji xt-20. Realized I haven't shot in while, the beginning of this year I challenged myself to take start taking a pictures of something, at least once a week using the cameras I have. I'm having so much! It's has become my weekly photo challenged and I post on my FB. Photography has always been my passion but life sometimes gets real busy and the busyness takes over. I now have a camera with me at all times and I'm always looking out for my next weekly photo! Lol! Love all your videos! Take care and get better! ❤

Laura, so glad to see your smiling face again today! I'm glad you're happy doing what you do. Also, this video describes exactly what's happened to me recently -- I've had several weeks of "life challenges" and very little time or energy to do anything creative. So yesterday, I chose to be selfish and just grab my camera and just go out and take pictures of whatever...just to get back into the creative flow. And today, I just finished flying my drone too. It was like getting to breath again! As always, thank you for being so amazing and caring.

Everytime I am tired and not consistent. You are my inpiration. I have been improving. Thanks & Love you.
Talk about learning on the run, I scored media accreditation to shoot a water skiing event over 2 days, It took me 8 days to catalogue the individual boats and skiers. 7000 images was way more than was necessary and my poor computer is not up the task. I have made a few sales, not many yet, but who knows. The feedback I have been getting is that people were very pleased with what I had taken. I had some failures mostly because I didn't set the camera up correctly at the beginning. I love the challenge of shooting events.
I should add, I had three cameras, two Sony and a Panasonic, I bought some spare batteries which is fortunates as I would flatten 3 batteries throughout the day. I was kind of hoping that the Fourth wouldn't last so I could finish for the day. A total of 124 gb of memory for the Sony's, and 64 for the Panasonic, which I used to record video as a test.

I think a very important skill is to create a (positive) habit. But we can’t just wait for motivation - even the most passionate artist in the world won’t feel super motivated every single day. So starting the task anyway, even if it’s for 10 minutes, might create very important steps. There’s a great book called “The Artist’s way”by Julia Cameron - it really helps with this complex subject.
Thank you! I hope I get back to myself soon. 😅 Totally agree. I don’t talk about motivation in that way because of that reason. We can be very passionate but if we don’t have discipline when we lack of motivation, we won’t grow. I mention the importance of not leaving our passion on a side because then, motivation and mood goes way lower. Which will make getting started even harder. 🙏🏼 I know the book! 😍 One I love is “Atomic Habits” or the “4 Hour Week”.

You truly inspired me to go back to my passion after the tech world sucked my soul as a product designer.
I’m struggling a bit with my gear, and despite that, I’m being able to create great outcomes, but I need to work a lot on the post production.. and knowing that makes me a bit upset.
I know that I’m taking a dangerous leap here, but I prefer to work hard on something I’m passionate about and being my own boss, rather than being burned out by some companies who don’t give a damn about me in the end of the day.

At this point I gave up on the idea to make a living with the photography. I lost the motivation and I do other things for the moment in order to have a stable income.
I can't fool around with a passion while the rent must be payed, etc. and there is no solution for it on short term.
So I let it slow for the moment and I don't make photos so often. I need to be inspired and search for stories or something interesting.
The problem is, for now everything is so rooted in money that any passion you have dies with it, at least it's what I feel.
Totally understandable.🙏🏼 If that’s how you feel about photography and you lack of motivation, there is no way you could make it happen. As everything worth pursuing, it takes time, love and dedication. If you don’t feel like pursuing your passion and make of it your daily job, it’s totally fine too. You can keep it as a hobby if that brings you more joy. ❤️
@@LauraBC I don't lack in motivation, I have certain ideas or wishes and I can't achieve them easily, so I just take my time. Yes, I'm an architect actually and I've started photography just since one year. And it's not just a hobby, but I have to take the time to create the context I want, it takes much more than just shooting randomly. Aside of that, I started a blog about street photography and this summer I will create new projects.
It takes time, indeed.
I'm going to figure out what I really want to do between street photography or landscape even though I have to be out there doing both. there shouldn't be any excuse to have the time to do it

But I know what you mean. I would have gone probably to Madrid or Barcelona if I would have stayed. More creative work over there. 😊
@@LauraBC I'm based in Belgrade Serbia, not an EU country. Also not allowed to stay in EU more than 90 days, for UK need visa. This market is small and poor. Bigger accounts are already taken by photographers with nametags. Whatever I try it gives very limited results. WIsh it was different..

this is really tricky subject and not an easy one. I do not think you can flourish, have best possible output when you tired and so on. I think some more videos are needed to go into details how to recognise what and when to do and when not, to find the balance. Balance is the key to everything, isn't it? :-)

Also, I pray that you recover soon.🙏🏻 Also, I can relate what you were talking about --- time for your art... I'm going through some changes myself with family members getting older, family dynamics changing, etc. Moreover, I thought about what you said in regard to bettering your art... And I thought of you because ---- from your work it's evident that you shoot various genres, and I feel it you could narrow down your style, you may have more success. Watching videos is good but you need to practice to real get the feel of what you are doing.
It's a little like how Elon Musk started his rocket company. He read a bunch of books on rockets and engineering but then used that knowledge to talk and hire the right people to build his rockets.
