    Overall, Pancit canton is tasty!!😀 And i'm sure that other Koreans will like too🍴
    And there was a conversation during filming, calamansi is familiar with Koreans as diet drinks and liquid that can mixed with Korean Soju(alcohol). So, it was kinda exotic and not familiar to eat with noodles🙂 Anyway Pancit canton was good enough for me to buy it in Korea😁😁

    I used to teach in a Korean institution in Alabang. We ate lakimi canton every weekend. Everybody hated chilimansi during the first few weeks but as the semester rolled by, the calamansi taste grew on them and the green variant became the most favorite canton at that school.

      haha, that's like me. I hated the Kalamansi flavor at first, but I started missing it so much after like 3 weeks? It's like when I first tried Alio de olio pasta with a bit of lemon: hated it at first, but loved it as time passed.

    I like how the host actually cooks it in front of them instead of serving it already cooked beforehand. I also like how they gave their genuine ratings about it. I, as a Filipino, actually prefer the calamansi and chilimansi flavor. I usually also put calamansi over my pancit bihon, lomi, pares, and many more. I also like the snack called: "Cracklings" and "Mang Juan" which both have vinegar flavor. From their expressions, we can totally see the difference in culture. Still, I'm glad to know their honest side about what they prefer in each episode.

    This definitely is telling how Filipino taste is way different than the rest of the Asians. I mean if I'm not mistaken the Calamansi and Chilli-mansi is the most commonly bought here. Goes to show how we love sour, from sinigang, to vinegar in the adobo to the sawsawan.

    Their reactions on Pancit Canton's calamansi flavor is pretty understandable. Haha. Koreans prefer salty and spicy food, while Filipinos love sour, salty, and spicy flavors. That explains our weird obsession with green mangoes with bagoong and spicy sawsawan; sour crackers, and the mighty and famous Sinigang. Suka/Vinegar is always part of every Filipino household.

I must say when serving calamansi flavor I prefer it slightly undercooked as the flavor is not good when the noodles gets soggy.. Also, after discovering sweet and spicy it has been my go to flavor. Protip for my fellow chilimansi lovers: Add the fresh calamansi juice yourself! Squeeze in a fresh calamansi lime after straining (or two if you like). The fresh citrus really brings out the spice.

    The story about the calamnsi is that the authentic pancit canton (pansit) usually have calamnsi as a side condiment in case it gets cloyed (nakauumay). Usually it gets fatty and the sourness of calamnsi compliments the flavor really well similar to how marinades of grilled foods in the Philippines are such as soy sauce and calamnsi. I think this in sight may justify it really well.

  • @rivendoto
    @rivendoto Před 2 lety +8

    Putting calamansi, lime, or lemon in viands are usually applied in order to cut the usually rich-tasting Filipino foods. In order to cut the oily or greasy feel in the food, the acidity is needed to brighten up the dish, letting you taste more of the flavors without actually being overwhelmed by the richness. It is the principle behind that PC flavor, but because of its "instant" and artificial nature, these products tend to have one-dimensional flavor, which can throw off people who aren't used to that flavor profile.
