I think that this routine should be made into a public service announcement to raise awareness that the most basic responsibility of any species is to produce adults. Parents who want their children to become successful, encourage and motivate their children to become independent,. They teach them how to succeed. I know that mine did, and I tried to do the same for the person I tried to raise to be an adult. I'm no longer concerned that they do things my way, only that they can do things that work for them.

Well said! I always feel sad for folks whose adult children still live at home in their 30s because the parents never taught them how to be adults, instead doing everything for them and allowing them to remain children who never grew up and learned to be responsible for their own lives. My wonderful Mom always told me her job was to raise adults, not children 🙂

My mum and dad were older when they had me, the youngest of six. I was the 'whoops, I thought she was the menopause' baby. I made sure I had my brood young, so I had the energy to keep up with them. I'm so glad I did, not from the more energy outlook, but I have a terminal illness and I've been lucky enough to watch them grow up and thrive. Mother nature knows exactly what she's doing. I hope to still be here next year for an Italian skiing trip. I'll be the one not skiing, but laughing every time one of them falls over!

Opposite end of the spectrum for me... I am a 36 year old GRANDMOTHER 😮
I had my only daughter after getting married at age 18 and she did the same thing. It's bizarre to say the least. I adore that baby more than I could've ever imagined but I still am not thrilled with the notion of being a granny yet! My reasoning for having a baby so young immediately after getting married was because my husband is 10 years older and wanted to have a baby because he didn't want to be "an old dad" 😂 of course at 18 i thought 30 was indeed getting pretty old sooo... here we are. Nobody thinks I am the babies grandmother; nobody even thinks I'm my daughter's mother! They think we are sisters and who knows where people think we got this baby from! Lol
Isn't it interesting, this journey of parenthood and life in general?!

I can relate, I am close to 70. I went to my mom's in Arizona to help around her house when her husband died. She had a bee problem she had abated and her front window had honey all over it. She went out front to do some work. I got a bucket of soapy water, rag and Windex for when it was clean. I scrubbed real good with soapy water then started cleaning with Windex. Mom saw me and came charging in the house and grabbed the cloth out of my hand and wanted to do it herself. Nobody can do anything as good as she can. Very hard to give her a hand but I chuckle at the look on her face and the speed she moved to get in the house.😅😂😂❤😂

When we raised our own two kids, I was the hammer, and my wife was their merciful angel. Now that we are raising two grand sons, those roles have TOTALLY switched. Now, all three of us are afraid of the love of my life, who we all call "the avenging angel". And I have become the shelter in her storm. But those boys are the best behaved children I've ever seen develop a twittch.

As for the shaving anecdote. I was once happily shaving away in the bathroom, and suddenly thought to myself "why does this feel weird today..?" Turns out I was actually shaving with my other hand. Had literally not realised I'd picked up the razor with the other hand and just started at it.. And no, I was stone cold sober fwiw.. lol

My parents had an interesting life when it came to relationships, so when I came into the world they were in their 40s and I already had 3 older brothers who were all at least a decade older than me. So, when they came to pick me up from school or meet with teachers and whatnot, they often got asked if they were my grandparents. And when I saw one of my friends parents was still in her 20s, I was the one confused thinking they were sisters or something. 😅
Then, while I'm at the age of trying to get into college, my parents are also trying to get into retirement, so... you can guess what happened there... Neither of us got what we wanted! 😂
ah... I'm not quite sure they knew what they were asking for when they had me, but they have always loved the hands off approach and conveniently accuse me of "leeching" off them and preventing their dreams... while I was 16. But, boy, they have taught me a lot of things that no other parent probably could. I mean, by high school I could do whatever the heck I wanted in terms of a job, office work or hard labor skills, they taught me how to make it work in anything I chose to do. So I can appreciate them if only for that. But, there was just one thing they had not thought about for their child development plans... I was alllways sick growing up, and those were the good days... In some ways, it seems like I've failed them. But then again, I also have a very creative mind, so another way of looking at it is that how the world is designed, the system, has failed me. If I was healthy, there would never be a problem. But I'm not, and taking 2 or 3 weeks off a month just isn't the ideal candidate for the workforce. 😂😂😂
So, as much as I can admire a 40 year old for braving the ordeal of childbirth at such an age, I gotta wonder if they are actually thinking about the reality of the situation. Yes, it's hard on the parent, but the kids have it hard too. What kind of future can you expect your child to have if you're trying to send them to college based on your retirement funds... while building a new house... while starting a retirement business... while throwing expensive parties... while paying recurring medical bills... etc. While I'm young and dating and trying to start my career, they're trying to plan where they're going to be buried and who's getting what in their will and where they want to live out the rest of their days... it's beyond not cool, it's bloody depressing. What isn't cool though, is being 20 and my 60 year old mom is trying to zip up my jacket for me.............😂😱😫🙄😭😣🤦‍♂️ So, yeah, it's true that they NEVER stop being your parents. 😂

They were not mean and took care of me as well as they could BUT.....they were strict and believed in physical punishment. The trick for parents is to be like my parents....then they would NOT want to hang around and would want to leave the house on day one of your 18th birthday.
