    This schedule is actually very realistic and sustainable. To compare it with manga:
    The mangaka do make 16+ pages per week but they have several assistant and mostly use black and white style. Despite that even the top mangaka still need to pull all-nighter, and working in weekend etc. Thats why we often see a manga in hiatus because the mangaka is sick.
    Manga with better scheduling is usually the monthly one because they only need to do about 40 pages in a month (with help of assistant ofc). This result in better working condition and personally i think a better story overall as mangaka have more time to do research and plotting story.

      There was an entire anime based on this. It's very good, and very informative about the industry. It's called "Bakuman". Actually Trent, you might relate to this because the main characters are making comics professionally in their teens while juggling school. It's one of my favorites. And it explains how mangakas can literally work themselves to death if they aren't careful.

    Yeah it makes sense to take the "roughs and finishes" approach to pencils and inking if you're doing everything yourself. I'm prepping to start learning coloring soon so I'll use 5-6 hours as a baseline if more than just flats are used on a page.

    I kinda use this method when working on my comic. For the last 4 pages I thumb-nailed them, finalized the lines, and then colored them all at once. Working in bulk like this is a definite time saver. Was able to make those 4 pages in just 6 days.

    at the moment i'm struggling to finish a page a week on my long form webcomic as I have a very strange schedule with the way I work my job etc; I work start to finish page by page right now, though before i start the next chapter I was planning to rework my workflow during my chapter break :) this provides a good guideline to look at, i didn't think about storyboarding panels instead of straight thumbnail pages, i'll definitely have to give that a go! thanks for the tips as always!
    what kind of comic page sizes are your favourites to work in when preparing for print? This is more of a personal taste question, I'm not so familiar with printed work :)

    @wykedbunny9792 Před 3 lety +3

    Hey, thanks so much for the video!!
    I was a bit confused on how you use storyboards for the comics. Are the storyboards meant to show the major focal point/part of each individual page, to get an idea of the feel and look for the pages? How would that incorporated within the panels?

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  Před 3 lety +2

      The storyboards are the panels. But you can scale them to be large or small panels because they are just thumbnails capturing the action.

      Get some good quality paper( it really does make a difference) and use clip studio paint or Corel Painter instead of Photoshop and know that anyone can create art just so long as you got the passion and the will. Even if you don't make it big, you never know who you're gonna inspire along the way, and the person you inspire just might end up changing the world.

    How many pages is acceptable minimum for a comic?

    • @mashmanga
      @mashmanga Před 3 lety +3

      Depends on what you're thinking of honestly, any story can be told as short as you want it to be...
      Think of Sunday comics that only use one strip, less than a page. And mini comics are only eight pages, using sheet of folded paper.
      But American standard comics are between 21-22 pgs, while one shots can be up to like 40 pages. Manga being close to that.
      Good luck! 😎👍
