I know Lil Dicky won't see this but I wanted to share:
I worked at a restaurant for nearly 18 years, it was my 2nd home. The owner unexpectedly passed away in 2020. I spent the rest of the year working towards owning the restaurant.
The family decided not to sell it to me.
I hit a deep depression. I lost my family.
This song helped me get out of the hole and start college again.

My dumbass actually looked up if Westbrook grew up on a farm
I did that too. Don't worry you are not alone.
This comment just made my day 😂
Salt Boy did he? Lol
No he grew up playing basketball look at peoples explanation of this song it shows it real deep
He's using it as a metaphor to how he got started in the rap game. Lil dicky was raised to do good in school, graduate from a good college and get a job in business (the farm). His plan was to keep doing that and have a wife and kids and live a "normal life". But then he discovered rap (basketball) and tried it out and realized he loved it and was really good at it. He compares himself to Russell Westbrook because Russ is a young star player who people are debating about being one of the best players in the league. He makes the comparison about the older generation of basketball greats (rap greats) who don't show him respect because he just started playing and they've been doing it for a long time and it's all they've ever known (dicky just started rapping and had another focus beforehand). But now dicky is getting recognition and fame (Russell getting the call up to the Thunder).
You're welcome everybody

@@Jimbo292 (I am not the same dude but thought I would answer my story) I had a girl ages ago, marriage material. I was young enough, 26 maybe and she and I were, at that point, dating for like 4 years. Family got jammed up and I needed money fast. Found a job out of state, good one too. After a bit of trying long distance we figured out this wasnt going to work and broke up. Shes married now, kids and what not. Had I stayed with her I would be broke but happy. Instead I left and I am successful but looking back I can't help to think, you know, I really loved that farm
@@jdreign7210 True 💯
@@Jimbo292 tbh it’s not that crazy, but basically me and my fiancé were taking a medical course together just to get out start in the medical field and I knew in my soul this was it. The route we were taking was for us and our future and I saw nothing else for us haha, things we’re looking up! This is around 2018-2019. Her parents gave us their house and they moved away, fast forward a year (2020) we graduate get our medical jobs after all our hard work, and she was pregnant with my daughter! The middle of 2020 though, everything started falling apart and Covid didn’t help either. I’m not sure how I let a small rift destroy everything we worked for but I think all the time cooped up during quarantine fucked me up, and made our relationship stale or “boring” I suppose, and I started having dreams of a crush I had in high school and got to wondering what ever happened to that girl and what would my life be like if I had actually asked her out and such, never acted on it but… I realize thats where the first rift in our relationship came. I tried my best to ignore these random ass temptations but my fiancé could tell I wasn’t in it 100% but nothing we couldn’t fix? Unfortunately a month later my fiancé had a miscarriage, causing us to be sad af obviously. Made us preform bad at work and eventually we were just not happy with the situation and my fiancé suggested we take a week break. I didn’t know this actually meant us breaking up unfortunately.
Reason this song struck a cord with me is because after allll that I literally ended up back where I started before I met my fiancé, back at my parents working a fast food restaurant job only this time emotionally wrecked from everything I’d been through. I’m good now but man I’m still scarred and miss my fiancé tbh she’s with another guy and moved out of state as far as I know currently.
Just crazy how my path was set and then all of it taken away just to end up back at the “farm”
@@otwordsone nah bruh this shit exaggerated or fake af because how you graduated med school and end up working at a fast food place…

This song still makes me teary eyed. The story of the grind couldn't be displayed in a better analogy
One of the best songs ever
Not grind; fuck "the grind."
This song is a story about finding your destiny. The grind is a fairytale for the aggressively mediocre.
Lyrics my friends, I gotchu.
[Verse 1]
Uh, ain’t no doubt about it, shit is coming
And I’m just praying that Lil Dicky love it
Always told myself that this the type of shit I wanted
I was being honest, even made a promise
Not with anybody else, this was inner conscience
Talking to my fucking self, that's a little bonkers
I know, I still got a lot of shit to conquer
I hope, that ain't even my concern though
You know I’ll be working till I get what I deserve
Whatever totems I get personally, you know I’ma earn those
This ain't even 'bout some shit up on a checklist
This about the fact that I’m about to test this
I’m about to figure out what my best is
I can't avoid it because now your boy invested
And I ain't gotta a choice except to smile and accept it
Pretty reckless, pretty restless, 'cause
I’ve lived my life expecting love
To come the second my attempt was done, and yeah
I guess to some extent I was correct because I’m getting buzz
But now I’m 'bout to be ubiquitous, look it up
Yeah, or that’s at least what I’m assuming
But, as alluded to, reality is looming
And now your dude about to make a move and take the truth
And hope to God that when he through
That what he thought about is proven
But honestly, I'm not afraid that it’s delusion
I’m hot enough to where I know it’s not illusion
But, obviously, I been finding this confusin'
This ain’t even close to what I thought I would be doing
Don’t get me wrong, I was born to be big
But I always figured it would be the comedy thing
So I started rapping just to see what drama it brings
What big dogs from sitcoms would holler at me
And as the time passed, I rhymed faster, lines crafted
Was high class as I mastered my craft, and
Goddamn, who’d have thought it'd get like this?
Back in 2010, music wouldn’t make that list
I’m talking top five-to-ten strengths with no winks
I would not lie, my pen draw with no ink, or
That’s at least what I thought
'Til I clawed and scratched the pen 'til I saw a line draw
Then I could've let bygones be bygones
But I really wanted to rhyme till my line drawn
Like, where the fuck is my peak at?
Not Brown, but I make it pop, then I beat that
Not crowned yet, but I don’t think I decreed that
Not loud, but you know I’m ready to tweet that
I just really hope I’m ready to be that
Now you seein' where D’s at
'Cause even though I’m softer than a tissue, I ain't nothing to sneeze at
I’m smarter, where the fuck your degrees at?
And I ain't harder but I’m hotter, homie
Where the fuck your degrees at?
I’m 'bout to come in and desaturate the chic rap today And evaporate the feedback I hate, I elaborate
At a later date
But I’m getting off the point with the player hate
What the fuck was I saying?
[Verse 2]
Ah, yeah, I’m kind of a slave
To my ambition, I ain't quittin' till my shit is appraised
And I admit it, I predict that where I finish is crazy
But that just means that it’s further away
So, Burd about to work until he turn in his grave
It’s really burdensome when earning something’s fun for the day
But I’m concerned about the burnin' out from uppin' the stakes
I’m always uppin' the stakes
I’m taking dinner meetings in New York, always up for the steaks
We exploring the discussion of great
They assuring me that when I’m more elite I’ll be secure and amazed
But this isn’t insecurity, man
Like, this the opposite of that, confidence in fact
My biggest problem is I can't honestly relax
Because inside of me a damn odyssey enacts
And I made a promise that I can't be the body that’s stoppin' it
Think I need a lobotomy, Lil Dicky the prophecy
Little bit of anomaly, not a commodity
Not a façade or a lotta the comedy prodigies
Commonly brought up wit Dicky
[Verse 3]
Feelin' weird, let me think of an analogy
Just imagine for a second, what if Russell Westbrook never knew his own mentality?
Grew up on a farm where the biggest commonality
Was people that conform to the ruralest localities
To Russell, though, it was nothin' but normality
And he really nice up on the plow, in actuality
Everybody liked the kid and dug his personality
And so the mutuality was somewhat rationality
So, then your man made a plan of practicality
Not even a plan, it was more of a formality
Get a little land and attend to its vitality
Then raise a little fam 'til it all became finality
The strategy was just to stay in the course
And do your chores, when you're happy you ain't need to abort
Never explored nothing 'less he rollin' round on his horse
Then one day he was up on his horse
That’s when he went past the porch
The path he normally passes forth was fast and short
Was after more, went faster North
Amassed allure to master more
And then discovered the court
He like, "Ya! Let me down, Tim"
Hopped off, lookin' puzzled at the round rim
Saw a ball up in the corner on the ground then
Russell started dribbling and giggling astounded
Then he shot a brick and then a brick and then he downed it
And when he hit it, Russell listened to the fuckin' sound friction
Up in a swish make and he was confounded
Because he knew that he had found him
But right now; it was still for the fun
Just a way to kill the time when the farming was done
Then the walking turned to running
And the hoppin' turned to jumping and dunkin'
And Russell had to keep coming
Because the young’n was fuckin' disgustin' and lovin' it
Running it, all of a sudden the public
Started to come in abundance and fuck with him
'Cause he was butter and hungry, hung jury
'Cause stories of glory not normally for people like him
Then the word got around up to ESPN
And they flying Russell down to compete in the gym
Bunch a grown men lookin' to belittle the kid
Because to those men, ball was the reason to live
And, the G.O.A.T.s, they been all in since they was kids
So this goat-owning mo'fucka look like a dick
And even though Russell knows that, he doesn’t submit
He just chills with a grin
And then the game start and this mothafucka take charge
Make it rain hard, D up on these bitches making children of men
Lookin' better than his predecessors ever could get
Turned the animosity to respect
And then the Thunder called him
Said they heard a lot about the ballin'
Told him that they wanna get involved and
Showed him all the shit that you can get up in the league, it’s so appalling
Oklahoma City in the autumn, hella pretty
Awesome, errbody laud him
Erry-bitty lookin' like they really fucking fallin'
Condominium is so legitimate it’s sprawlin'
And this mothafucka on the court straight ballin'
Cash all up in that ass, lol’ing at the past, like
"Where the fuck would I be at up on the other path, right?
If I never stumbled 'pon the game then think of that life"
Shit, who taking care of my farm?
Who taking care of my farm?
Who taking care of my farm?
I really loved that farm

For those who still don't understand this song and are confused by the title:
Russell Westbrook actually did NOT grow up on a farm. LD uses Russell growing up on a farm as an analogy to describe his life before he got into the rap game and the struggles he went through to get some respect and acknowledgement from other rappers/ his peers. So in the song Russell grows up on a farm and working the "plow" is all he knows because he's never known anything besides life on a farm. And because of this Russell doesn't understand his true "mentality" and the potential he holds. And so Russell Westbrook's destiny is set to living on a farm, working it his entire life, and eventually raising a family on the farm. But one day Russell decides to ride his horse passed his porch and discovers basketball. Russell starts to play basketball and enjoys it. He starts to become really good at it as he practices and refines his skills. Russell is then is invited to play in the big league with the pros after many people saw how dominant he was. But all the pros look at Russell just as a kid who makes the game look like a joke because he was just a farmer. But once they see how dominant of a player Russ is they can't help but admit that he's a great player. So how is this related to Lil Dicky? Lil Dicky grew up in a suburb and probably can't relate to the "streets" that a lot of rappers in the game claim to be from. So being from the suburb Lil Dicky's destiny was also set in stone: go to school, get a degree, graduate, and then get a job. LD graduated from the University of Richmond with Summa Cum Laude(basically a fancy phrase for being a smart ass) and initially worked at an advertising agency but didn't like it. So he started to rap and worked to refine his craft. Now that he's really popular, a lot of the "street rappers" look at him the way the pros in the league would look at Russell the farmer. But Lil Dicky has the confidence and the skills to be considered a great rapper.
Honestly, I missed a lot of other good points LD makes in this song but I just cut it short so it would be easy to understand for those who were confused.
We need lil dicky X chance the rapper
And Sosa
Drake and Future don't either but look what happened
Why? Because they're both poppin? I mean even though two talented rappers make a single together doesn't mean it'll be fire... So why do we NEED lil dicky X Chano?
+MrCursorFTW why not? wether it'll be good or bad at least it happened. i think it would be nice to see what they could produce on the same track.
FOR REAL!

It is really kinda weird thinking about how adults always reiterated that "they don't like the new music" and we write it off as their generation. Crazy how it comes back full circle. Great song. I had to look up and check if Russell Westbrook actually lived on a farm. That was a great show... get it Different World... 90s show... so... about that farm... I really loved that farm... uh...
Aymen Dris imagine it live, definitely one of my all time favorites
Aymen Dris real shit.
"He knew that he had found him"
I hope we all get to experience that feeling someday.
That lyric resonates with me so much. I have been a race fan all my life and didn’t get to actually go race until 2019, now I’m a national champion.

Pretty much
Yeah I'm hard af dood
This guy was on the future in those days
Why everybody who rap over this beat do it better than Drake?
Jay Okay Because Drake's trash.
Take this W
Jay Okay because Drake barely rapped in his song...he did like 1 verse
yeah, drake fucked it up with his moist singing on the second beat. Should have just kill the first beat with rap...
Take this L, Drake killed this beat better than anyone.
Bro would be in the GOAT list if he did music seriously. Still might be.
After all these years and I still come back to this just to hear him snap for almost 7 minutes!
Imagine how dope it would be if he could somehow get Russell Westbrook to shoot a music video for this. like he starts out on a farm and ends up in a penthouse condo in okc then all of a sudden it hits him and he remembers his old life and realizes the opportunity cost of playing in the NBA... that would be so tight
IGotCurbstomped word
IGotCurbstomped Making music videos for a lyricist like LD would be easy money he paints the picture for us.
IGotCurbstomped lol Wesbrook is from Long Beach, dude didn't start at a farm
Adam Johnson its an analogy fam
IGotCurbstomped hahahaha "Who takin care of my farm"
when anyone doubts lil dicky's rhymes I show them this video. one of the most lyrically gifted artists in the game rn
tru shit
Logic is still dope he is actually in my top 5

Currently living this song. Next year is gonna be unreal and I’m hope I’m ready for it. I’ll update at the end of 2024 on whether or not I pull everything off.
you got this bro.
@@TrashPanda101 Thanks man! Gonna be a wild ride!
Okay I'm gonna make my own comment because clearly people are struggling with the lyrics in this track.
Russell Westbrook did not grow up on a farm, become a farmer, have a horse named Tim or any of what he is saying. He literally starts that part with "let me think of an analogy, just imagine for a second what if Russell Westbrook never knew his own mentality".
The song is 100% about Dicky. He is saying Westbrook is clearly a beast at basketball, but what if he never knew that cause he grew up in a world where he had a path already made for him. As a jewish kid, Dicky went to college for business, and went to an ad agency, cause thats what you are supposed to do.
Not sure why anyone thinks the Russell part is about Russell. Basketball is rapping, and goats are the rappers in the game already. Lil Dicky is the one balling, and wondering what would his life be like if he stayed in advertising and never found rap.
Russell Westbrook grew up in California and played ball all his life, went to UCLA.
Conor McGregor lil dicky grew up in the suburbs listen to professional Rapper
you must not have understand what i just said he literally said let me make an ANALOGY
youre right connor mcgregor hes saying the way to kill the time until the farming was done hes talking bout coming home and rapping i can read into rap lyrics well
+Conor McGregor Don't worry bro, you can't argue with stupid.
It's sad you had to explain that, but I appreciate you took the time to do so.
"lyrically he's pretty damn clever"
I got ur "Professional Rapper" reference there
That’s about an understatement but yeah he’s Dope
@@getbbudded23 its a referance to another lil dicky song
What a "professional" comment
I can honestly say this is a song I can listen to and it gets better and better each time. I love you Dave.
10yrs later. Who’s taking care of my farm?
wish he had songs like this on professional rapper
I couldn't agree more, needledrop gave him a light 2 but i think if he had this type of stuff it would've been a more impressive album
Keegan Mccallum Needledrop doesn't know anything about rap. He sleeps on Kendrick like it's nothing, and while Kendrick is one of the best rappers I ever heard, he didn't give Under Pressure by Logic or Professional Rapper a good number, which is ridiculous. I haven't listened all the way through Professional Rapper but Under Pressure deserved a solid 8 or light 9
+Connor von Rosen so cause he didnt give your favorite rapper a 9 or 10 he doesn't know anything about rap?? dude dont be one of those fanboy this guy album I give it a 6
helloose221
I see what you're saying, but it's not just this. He gave bad ratings to Goblin and Wolf by Tyler, Under Pressure by Logic, and Worlds by Porter Robinson. It seems like all he does is fanboy over Kendrick, which gets sort of ridiculous.
+Connor von Rosen He sleeps on Kendrick? He just gave TPAB a 10. Lol
After every song of Dickys im left in awe...
Agreed.
+We Are Anonymous Ex-Boyfriend?
Whenever he drops another album I hope its more music like this.
A decade ago Lil D blessed our ears with this masterpiece. Crazy.

It's wild that this was 9 years ago. This still goes hard to this day. ❤🔥❤🔥
I wonder what the convo was like when they met.
whiskey ginger podcast made me want to listen to this song again.
Have you notice good white rappers never use nigga.
Have you notice that good black rappers rarely use a word - 'nigga' (Hopsin)
yea thats true too
+Lesa Boss j cole is a great rapper and uses it a lot sooo
yeah, but when makes senses...but not like young thug, and migos...
lol yea blatantly just say it out of no where
My favorite from Dicky, he killed this beat. Better than Drake's version. Dicky should always be as serious as he was here. I wanna look at him like a serious rapper with some funny songs & not a satire rapper with some serious songs. Really hope he doesn't go where he's going with Freaky Friday. (I love that song but I need more of this)
I don't like freaky Friday but I respect it as a fantastic song. The video was great, the way they both rapped was nice but I'm just not a fan on radio music and it's a radio song to the max
Tbh while I think Dicky is capable of being mainly a quality rapper, everyone loves buying trash and trash is easier to write and Lil Dicky doesn't mind making silly ass songs you can write out of boredom. So with all that said it seems hard to imagine there'd be more serious material than silly. Lil Dicky is not like Eminem or most of these other conscious rappers from a hard life with a lot of things to get off the chest, but he's still a smart dude who could come up with a good song if he ever wanted to and tried.
Fazer from N-Dubz did a cool cover of this instrumental too! Check it!
Tebby Times Berner did a song with this beat and he killed it too
Welp, you got Earth now
GD that was 🔥 The way you're able to tell a story over a beat, and with the type of flow that keeps pulling me in no matter which way you take it, is truly some next level shit that only a few have been able to do for me. Don't know how I didn't get put on till now.
Fire ain’t it lol can’t stop listening and who’s taken care of my farm I die laughing haha
After seeing Drake's recent vid I feel like I've been traumatized. Would be nice to have this on spotify to help me through these trying times.
lyrical genius

How could you not?

Julian Sabarre Logics got talent flying out his ass, both are totally talented but way different
True baller.
this or make belief

Logic isn't that talented, like he's good but he keeps repeating a lot of shit, like hella crazy and lines like that, it gets so annoying especially in his freestyles
