I enjoyed Grasa de las capitales very much on first listen but it's grown on me even more since then, becoming one of my favourite albums, so I've been very excited to hear more Serú Girán. And since Saturday the 23rd of October was Charly García's 70th birthday, this seemed to be the perfect time!
The first Charly García album I heard was Pequeñas anécdotas sobre las instituciones by Sui Generis which I enjoyed but wasn't blown away by. I was quite a bit more into Charly's 80s classic Clics modernos, but as a prog rock fan I was excited to hear more of his work in the world of progressive rock. I enjoyed Películas by La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros very much, but Grasa de las capitales by Serú Girán impressed me most of all.

Veo que eres un fanático de Génesis, como yo. Así que empezamos bien. Y estos muchachos, acá, en Argentina, son tan geniales como los Génesis.
Es cierto me encanta Genesis, y estoy llegando a ser un gran fan de Seru también!

me gusta cómo vas encontrando conexiones que unen a los diferentes musicos de la escena del rock.
Esta va en español... Habiendo escuchado ya Clics modernos y próximo a analizar Piano Bar sugiero entonces escuchar el primer álbum solista de 1982: "Yendo de la cama al living" en el que encontrarás un notable despegue respecto a Serú, abordando sonoridades contemporáneas como la new wave, funk, AOR o yacht-rock, pero siempre con ese vuelo melódico, romántico y latino, con esa maestría para hacer simple lo elaborado, que le es tan caracterísitica. En este sentido son particularmente representativas la tilte track, el hit radiofónico de "Yo no quiero volverme tan loco" y la que para mí es la perla escondida del album, "Canción de dos por tres". Vale la pena también escuchar la soundtrack del film Pubis Angelical compuesta y ejecutada por Charly, originalmente publicada en doble vinilo LP junto al álbum de canciones.

Hi Jonny, a curiosity: in the video inserts you wear this T-shirt with the Genesis logo from '71-'73 and this curiously coincides with a part of the text of the song that you preferred. In "Alicia en el país" Charly mentions "a river of heads crushed by the same foot that plays cricket under the Moon" in clear allusion to the artwork of Nursery crime (Genesis were one of his all time favourite bands). And how you correctly interpreted, the song is a metaphor about the illusions and political tragedies of Argentina at the time. In all probability the aforementioned phrase seems to refer to the criminal actions of the "death squads" at night and to the Río de la Plata turned into a tomb for the victims of repression (also alluded to at the end of Spinetta Jade's "Resumen porteño", 1983). Good review, again!

Mientras miro las nuevas olas is a criticism of the new wave genre, emphasizing that it is basically the same music it was played some years ago. In addition, Charly shows a bit of his ego when he says "mientras miro las nuevas olas, yo ya soy parte del mar" (while I look at the new waves, I am already part of the sea) as if to say I can do this too

Te recomiendo que escuches y pases el mejor tema para mí y para muchos de Seru Giran, Noche de perros es épico sobre todo el final muy pink floyd y lebon con la guitarra muy parecido a gilmour. Excelente canción una obra de arte

Hi Jonny, excellent reaction to the album Bicycle ... this stage of Seru is closer to Classic Rock ... leaving behind the more progressive stage ... seeing this band live has been so pleasant for me .... musicians of a superlative talent ... 3 of them singers and multi-instrumentalists .... the first album will bring you closer to the most symphonic stage of the band ... maybe you can react to that album soon! ... hug from Buenos Aires friend!

@@jonnykhatru seminare was an anthem for my generation ( when it was released i was 10 years old) ... that album ( the first) is going to enchant you beacause its contemporary to Genesis ( your favorite band ) ... and the have Many compositional coincidenses... big hug my friend !
Hey Jonny! Mientras miro las nuevas olas is kinda of a crític to the "New wave" bands in Argentina which played that type of rock, so it is an irony and the lyrics are very powerful as well
love this really much jonny!! this is one of those albums that are not full on top content, but 3 songs are just masterpieces!
David Lebon stays true to his style in this one though.

do u ever listen to "Los Natas"? its a Stoner band from 90's and 00's, "ciudad de brahman" is one of the best Stoner albums from all times ever made ♥

loved how you found the connection b etween "alicia en el pais" and its context of emergence.
charly's (as well as many other argentine musicians from his era) music usually has a bittersweet nature to it: all through his career you can find exciting music with hints of something darker. Even in Clics Modernos he referenced the dictatorship's atrocities in most of its songs, including the catchier ones.

Muy buen análisis concuerdo en q tiene a lo más, a lo mucho esos 3 temas de Charly q le dan peso al disco. Y si se extraña un poco más de pedro en este disco. Pero por ahí Pedro y Charly tienen sus buenos discos o juntos o en q como en clics modernos Pedro pone el bajo.

Muy bien que La grasa es uno de tus álbumes favoritos! Go with everything charly did until this point more or less, cause the prog era is already over, now the period of tons of 80s cool songs but you know..its different, not for me.But everything charly composed for sui and La maquina and the beginning of Seru its just genious level.
ps: Are you a fan off FF7 too?
No se banca más!! Luckily I still have more from the prog era to hear as well, including the self titled La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros and the first Seru Giran album. And yeah I am absolutely a fan of FF7! The original is my all time favourite, I adore the music, and I was very happy with the remake too 😃 you as well?
@@jonnykhatru Hey Jonny , im the guy from twitch dream coil that told u i just started to listen to genesis classics like suppers ready and ELP tarkus and that its the best stuff ive ever heard in prog. Also i recomended u Eiti Leda anb the band Arco Iris. Im arentinian!
ps:ff7 is the best masterpiece in gaming history, the music nobuo did its just incredible touching. The remake made me exited but also you know, im conservative,oldie and i stay with the MIDI bit like prog music of that 90s game. I playedover 500 hours that game, did everything! you? also played 8 and 9 i guess?
