As Peridot mentions the Diamonds are objectively better than a normal gem, and Yellow is the most logical/clear thinker of them all. So to Peridot why should they risk a potentially unsuccessful mission with the drill, when she can explain the logical reasons to save Earth to YD and have her deactivate the z cluster. But that golden vision of YD is instantly shattered. All her self importance gained with the CGs? Removed because she’s just another lowly peridot not worth learning the face of. That objective, logical gem she adores? She’s shone to be petty, personal, and unwilling to listen to reason. Peridot gets her worldview shattered.
The chicken crossing the road is an anti joke. Since it's presented as a joke, you expect that the answer would be something unexpected and clever, but then it's something mundane and logical, which can be funny for some because that's not what they were expecting.
I'm glad both of you picked up the vibe when Garnet offers to fuse with Peridot! I haven't seen many reactors mention it and it was starting to make me feel like I was reading too much into it. 😅 Also I just recently noticed that Peridot's hair is a yellow diamond - altho in these episodes from some angles it seems to have a curve on the bottom instead of a point. But it's at least sometimes a diamond!

If you haven't seen them, I'd recommend Craig of the Creek or Communtiy for light fun. For emotional release and a good cry, I highly recommend Centaurworld (this is a bit raunchy at times, but the story is worth it imo)
