Hot take this ep is the best ep so far. I think a character driven anime about realistic problems with some super cool card fights every now and then is the way to go. If the characters and interactions were more fleshed out this misunderstanding could hit really hard.

As someone familiar with the experience of TCGs I do have a soft spot for this series. While it’s not perfect, I think the focus on “something fun to pass the time” is a better representation of the real life game rather than “center of a character’s world”. I never once considered Vanguard to be this transformative experience that changes the course of your life like Aichi or Chrono did. It was more about having this cool thing you do with your friends that no one else knows about. And that’s what stuck out about Wonder Hill (a secret place people gather to do a hobby they enjoy). Honestly liking this direction though I wouldn’t mind if they had more sakuga

The Main villain shuns individuality and bonds, and the main character changes him by using a trading card game (a hobby which creates friendships while letting each person’s individuality show). However if it’s like The Darkness (Yugioh) or Gyze, where there’s no statement to be made about card games which justifies them being used against the villain, that’s when it’s problematic

The PSYQualia aspect was cool to make an imposing villain, but the moment Takuto and Suiko explained how it worked I was like “And it’s all downhill from here”. First season still is good despite this though, something I cannot say about the other seasons. G Season 1 was a breath of fresh air, though I had the same issue with Gear Chronicle as I had with PSYQualia (No hate Gear mains. I’m one too)

@Maōkami You're not wrong on either account, but to recycle the plot you just did two episodes ago is bad. As for no cardfighting, that's more forgivable. I understand they're making this a slice of life anime with some card games, not a card game anime with some slice of life.
