    I bought my first VSOH last summer and it was very leggy, so I just did kind of what you did and wrapped the vines around in the soil to see if it would get more full. And it worked! I was always intimidated by these because they look so delicate. But they’re ridiculously easy to care for. Yours are so amazing and full! Hopefully one day mine looks the same. Great video Jeff! (but please sharpen your pencil 😂)

    My sister-in-law gave me a tiny/scrawny plant, but I’m excited to have it. I trimmed it a bit and put some tiny leaf cuttings on spag moss in a clear covered container…sort of a mini greenhouse. The cuttings are growing and I think it’s time to put them in a small pot so I will take your advice and put them in small terracotta pot with well draining cactus mix 🤞also I didn’t know they liked so much sun so that is helpful. I’m going to also cut more vines and try water in the future. 🙏 for another great video. On a separate note…I believe I have my first thrips sighting 😮 I had a monstera that had been on the decline and so I chopped the whole thing down. I put some nodes with leaves in water and some wet sticks in moss. I also have the original pot chopped all the way down with only one leaf. I was looking at the leaves in the water and noticed a clump of something on the underside and after I got my magnifying glass I could see the off white elongated bug crawling!!!!! Those leaves hit the trash in seconds!! OMG thankfully it was a large plant I kept in its own pot sort of away from all the rest. I’m wondering if I should just dump the pot of soil in the compost or wait and see? What do you think?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety

      Sounds like you got thrips....sorry to hear that. I guess it is entirely up to you. I will clean out the pot and reuse them. Wash it out with water and rubbing alcohol and it should kill all bugs. I don't think thrips live in soil, but I would still discard the soil just in case. Good luck....I am trying to get my hands on systemic to once and for all kill thrips lol

    My mom bought me a VSOH last october and it's at least doubled in length and volume. It's constantly flowering. I untangled it all today because I want to propagate some strands and it took me almost 2hrs to untangle it all! I'm going to fill up a prop box with butterfly clippings and see what happens. Have a couple in water too, but I don't like having to transition from water to soil.

    Such a beautiful plant and a great video. It's a great plant for propagation. Just cutting the stems or a pair of leaves (butterfly method) and planting them directly in the soil is the best way to propagate them and have a fuller pot 💜I propagate mine every spring

    Your string of hearts looks beautiful and healthy. I have always found this plant grows so well for me in my aussie environment, i have propogated it many different ways and have found that the one way that always Fails for me is when i take the leaves off the stems when propping in water.i dont know why but i find that when i remove the leaves the stems seem to rot, so i leave them on and not a problem. 😊

    My love hate of this plant.
    They look beautiful, hence why I loved them and ended up getting one. Then it went through a phase of neglect haha, then after that I decided to propagate it, went through some neglect again during that phase but still seemed to survive to an extent.
    I recently and finally took the propagation out of their prop box and potted them up. Some leaves don’t look so hot and others look ok, but they’re in a pot now. Looks like some are giving off some shoots. So time will tell if I created a mess or actually did some good 🤞🏼
    I feel bad for all of my plants that are not on moss poles. All my poles get like 100% of my attention and all of my potted plants are like an after thought 😬

      I have a 'Selby' in a 6" plastic pot - same pot and potting medium as bought from the seller. I grow mine in medium light (~5 ft. from a west-facing wall of windows) and less than 30% humidity. I've noticed that the leaves begin to curl/ droop if I don't give the plant water every 3 days or so. I'm always amazed that this plant could need more water, but it does.
