I built two iSpindels about a year back; one has died (it leaked during a pressure fermentation), but the other's going strong. I also recently bought a Tilt Pro. For the iSpindel, you really want to use the Gravitymon firmware rather than the "stock" firmware--Gravitymon is far more full-featured, including handling all the calibration within the firmware itself. You still need to make the sugar wash, but you can enter the angle/SG values directly into the firmware's web interface and have it generate the formula for you. It also supports logging to multiple targets, not just one. It's open-source, just like the original.
As to battery life, I pretty much need to charge it after every fermentation. If I were doing two quick brews back-to-back--maybe fermenting with a kveik yeast--I could probably get away with two brews on one charge, but I wouldn't push it more than that. I'll have to see how the Tilt Pro does in this regard.

I'll have to try the Gravitymon firmware for sure. How do you like the Tilt Pro?

@@BenhamBrewing So far, I like the Tilt Pro a lot. It's calibrated out of the box (which of course it can be, as it's mass-produced). It gives an extra significant digit in both gravity and temperature, which means graphs are going to be kind of noisy, but the information is there. It updates every second or so.
The only real drawbacks I see are (1) price, and (2) it only does Bluetooth (though that accounts for long battery life). For the latter, a TiltBridge device takes care of it. I can't yet speak to how long the battery lasts.

Brian, I don't have any of those. However, I may order one to play around with. Hadnt soldered in some time but used to on a daily basis pretty much on Army Missile systems. Gonna search ebay. And or maybe hit some LHBS in Canada later this year

Let me know how your build goes! I had a lot of fun building mine, despite how slow i was at putting it together!

Hey dude, You didn't talk about the accuracy of each..

We do have a review of the Tilt on our channel, where we do talk about its accuracy. I did NOT talk about the iSpindels accuracy, as there are multiple version of the PCB and they are all a little different. So the accuracy can vary depending on which version you use, how you calibrate, etc. We will be doing a follow-up video about the iSpindel with long term usage to go over how the accuracy changes over time/usage. I probably should have mentioned that variable in the video, so thank you for bringing it up!
