Finally! A tutorial for people who are actually starting out. Thanks!
my god is this the only proper video out there for making songs for the JDXI beginner. It baffles me how other jdxi tutorials failed to do this? THANK YOU!
I was baffled too haha
This is by FAR the best intro to the JD - Xi I have seen so far and I've seen HUNDREDS. Very well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You fucking rock thank you so much. Saved me HOURS. First synth. Just picked it up.
That's great to hear! It's my first (and only) synth too. I hope you have a lot of fun creating on it.
GREAT TUTORIL .. I HAVE THIS ON MY RADAR OF SYNTHS TO PURCHASE
Finally got me making music rather than just staring at it.....thans
That's awesome. Can't wait to hear what you make!
So I've had mine a few months now, and it's definitely my favorite. I got a JD-XA I like this so much. I might go as far as saying this X1 has become my favorite synth, and I have a lot of them...but this is the one ALWAYS play (even if for a few moments) when I'm in my studio. I LOVE it. This (and the XA) are the only two synths I own where I can make a true Dubstep beat soup to nuts (I don't use a DAW) so it's great not having to transfer everything over to a work station and then sequence it etc.
On a side note I got the Microkorg over this as most people recommended it over the JD-X1.
Listen, I love my Microkorg it's a lot of fun, blah blah blah. But it cannot even be compared to this. It ETHERS that the Microkorg in every single category. Not even a close. So if any of you don't like using DAWs., start with this, or the Yamaha MX. Trust me. I'm getting that FA next.
Bought this yesterday (having zero experience with synths or keys of any kind) and your videos are super helpful, thank you very much.
Rock on!
This is excellent. Thanks so much for making something entry level.
Yes thanks this is the only video I've found that is dedicated to how to put a song together
Thank you!!! Very helpful 🤘🏻🎶
Got my JDXI today, and now I know how to get started. Thanks.
Just got this yesterday.. Roland manuals suck.. your video helped big time!.. thanks man!
I don't usually comment on youtube, but after sifting through a ton of videos that just are not very clear. I love the way you explain it in normal speak, at the end of the day some of us are musicians and not sound engineers!! Thanks so much this is fantastic!
Amazing!
you da man ghost talker 😎
I picked one up that's in excellent condition from my buddy for $200 and I'm excited to learn how to use it! I'm a drummer and I got a Roland TD-11K V-pad set and I fell in love with Roland ever since.
That's amazing. It's a great piece of gear to jam along to with drums! Also $200 is an incredible deal.
Exactly what I needed, thank you.
I just bought mine and really this was the video what I needed. I watched tremendous amount of videos, but nothing for beginners. So thank you!
Awesome. Glad it was helpful!
Great!
Before this video I was so confused by stupid professional to teach me to use This Roland......press tumb down and you are just so intelligent and the tutorial is so inderstanble......thank you I saw and I will see all your video to support you I hope to see more be this fantastic device by Roland
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad the video has been helpful. Before I created I was frustrated with most of the videos I was coming across as well.
THANKS BRO, FANTASTIC.
This definitely helped me a lot ! Thank you
Thank you for this review!
Thanks for this buddy!
Simple and effective, thank you
Thank you for creating!
So helpful, thanks. Nice tune too.
Very useful thanks.
Nice job on this video! Thank you
Dude this video is awesome.
Just bought this, and as a guitarist, I was a bit lost to say the least. Watched a few YT tutorials, and they all left out certain steps - Luckily, I found yours', and it's just what I needed! I can now get started, and learn more as I go. Cheers.
That's awesome! I'm a guitar player as well and been trying to combine guitar parts with the JD Xi. My next piece of gear I'm thinking about getting is the Ditto x4 looper because you can send a MIDI sync to it, so when you loop a guitar part it lines up with your JD Xi loops. Traditional loopers without midi sync get off time by a millisecond. I did some experimenting on this video here: czcams.com/video/rIEFYlVBzLU/video.html
Great tutorial. This was extremely helpful..... thank you so much!
- Great! Thanx 😀 !!
Thanks man, this was awesome
Thanks, Joey, really appreciate this.

Good tutorial!
Great tutorial! Thanks
Excellent tut, thank you!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dope I can’t wait to get one
Excellent video !!!!
A must for every newbie for this amazing little giant.
Holy shit this is the for "dummies" intro I needed. Helped me learn how to properly sequence drums. The sequence/looping parts was great too. I use pro tools so I'll probably compose and write to a sequenced beat and dub the other parts, throw guitar and voice in when needed. I've watched loads of videos and read the shitty manual and this 16 min video is by far the best. Thank you sir! Liked and subbed for doing the GAT DANG job other youtubers failed to do.
Hell yeah! I appreciate that. Excited for ya!
As a complete newbie, this was fantastic! You explained everything in simple terms, easy to understand. im probably going to listen to this a couple of times and make some notes too. I'm ordering my unit tomorrow!
Thanks for the kind feedback! You're going to have a lot of fun with JDXi.
@@ghoststalkermusic Hey Joey, Thanks again! I have my JD-XI and was able to create this whole piece plus some this afternoon. Hope you'll do more of these soon!

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE THANKSSSSSSS 💋
Huge Welcome yo!
Fantastic tutorial my brother. I've only had this a few days but thanks to you I was up and running in no time and creating some mean beats (which I uploaded on my channel)
thank you for this video lmao, lays out everything very simply in a super useful way that a lot of people just don't do
This is a damn good tutorial, and a damn good piece of kit. thank you so much!
Thanks! I feel like I watched so many good and bad JDXi tutorials and needed to make one that covered the really important things in under 20min.
thanks I just pick one up and you have explained it so very well that I think I kinda understand... I am ready to try it out thanks again!
That's great! I'm glad the video was helpful. What I went over is only the tip of the iceberg of what it can do.
Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much... Have a listen to Your silent Face by New Order!!
Good tutorial, catchy tune!
thank youuuu
thank you sir , you explain everything perfect god bless
Glad it helped
Excellent video! Much better than powering through the manuals.
I've powered through the manuals and so many garbage tutorials so others dont have to suffer like I did. Glad it was helpful!
Nice job..kudos!
Just bought a jd-xi and this video makes it so easy to get started. Thank you.
That's awesome! Glad the video was helpful.
Thanks man
thanks man, jelped me alot
Awesome!
This is going to be so useful as I'm just starting out. Very well explained.
Thankyou. Subscribed 👍
Awesome, thanks for subscribing!
Best ti begin
Amazing video dude, just subbed!
Thanks from one Joey to another!
Just got my mixer so I can finally utilize her! Been too long since I released any music
Awesome!! You've cinched my decision to get this little guy. (Echoing a lot of comments below.) Sweetwater is still selling this new in 2023. Although inflation is causing it to be listed at $599. I can probably talk them into knocking off a hundred bucks.
Great video 👍
Great Videos Thanks
You're welcome!
Nicely done. Very helpful. Thanks! 👌
Glad you found it helpful!

All the best ! 🎵 🎼
Посмотрел много видео - это самое простое, понятное и доступное! Спасибо!
Я рад, что это было полезно! Я делаю больше видео в будущем. благодарю вас.
That was fucking dope!! Thank you so much!!
great tutorial!! you are super clear. like and susc.
Finally watching this video with the synth in hand
There comes a time where you must close your eyes and use the Force.
@@ghoststalkermusic hellllll yaaaa. i keep having something going and then i switch banks on accident and then its gone lol
@@jacobm3728 that's the worst. Still make that mistake some times.
@@ghoststalkermusic do you have like Spotify or anything where I can find a lot of your music?
@@jacobm3728 I'm slowly building my catalog here:
open.spotify.com/artist/2ohOhxiArMG2QinDNOP1q7?nd=1
can make some pure madness with this
Very good tutorial!!! So easy to create music. And when you're finished with your four tracks, you can start wishing there were four more... I quess you could just buy another JDXI! Or record tracks one by one into a portastudio, that's another way of "getting past" having just four tracks. For some applications, four is enough of course. Seems like a great little machine, the JD XI. I know of no other mini synth that can do what it does.
This has been so helpful to get me going on the jd xi....been waiting so long to get one finally I got a nearly new one for 265 quid on ebay
That's a killer deal. Glad the video was helpful!
@@ghoststalkermusic one thing I can't figure out thou is when you create a song with 3 or 4 sequences to the song.....I have seen people with them lined up on the first 3 or 4 buttons on the bank of 16.....how they assign each sequence to those buttons...how it's done...so confused
@@davegill7614 they are using the 'favorites' feature. If that helps you get in the right direction.
@@davegill7614 czcams.com/video/HFvKRqzUi0Y/video.html
@@ghoststalkermusic you are a star....that is exactly what I needed....I couldn't figure it out from the manual...the manual is rubbish....thanks so much for your help 😁
Hey, I saw someone comment on another video about the Tone edit menu. It is in the menu on this synth and there are a vast variety of extra controls to manipulate sound with there if anyone is interested. It is a little overwhelming tho as there is A TON more parameters than I originally had thought.
