  • Bodycam footage released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office captures the moment when deputies apprehended 37-year-old Kevin Smith, who has been charged with grand theft auto and two counts of felony kidnapping. The incident, which occurred on October 10 in Hillsborough County, Florida, began when Smith allegedly stole a truck that had been left running with two young children inside. The children's parents promptly reported the missing vehicle and children to law enforcement, initiating an urgent search. The video shows deputies swiftly locating the stolen truck and ensuring the safety of the children, who were found unharmed.

    The bodycam footage serves as a powerful reminder of the risks involved in leaving children unattended in vehicles, even briefly. Law enforcement officials strongly advise parents and caregivers to remain cautious and always prioritize the well-being of their children to avoid similar situations. Kevin Smith now faces serious criminal charges in connection with the alleged theft of the vehicle and the kidnapping of the two children. If convicted, he may face significant penalties as prescribed by Florida state law. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident, and the case is expected to progress through the criminal justice system in the coming weeks.

      I'm not a parent but yes I agree! I couldn't imagine that. And the kidnapper couldn't do anything because that officer would have wrecked his world if he laid hands on the kid. Glad there are sane cops that are out there doing what they sworn an oath to.
      As for the commenter stated shouldn't of this and that. Me growing up we NEVER had to worry like this! My parents left their home and car doors unlocked always. It's the way society is changing that causes this and no fault to the father. Criminals get a slap on the wrist, and let go by the courts to repeat this.
      My opinion anyone that tries something like this should be knocked out of the gene pool. Sorry not sorry. And your statement kind of inclined the defense of the kidnapper. So I'd say your maybe no better. Criminals like this and followers should be locked up because you thinking that way shows what kind of person you are.

      Actually, that used to be the case years ago but now, about 57% of kidnapped children are returned home safely, around 40% are unfortunately killed by their abductors and the remaining cases are unsolved. Though every child abduction is a tragedy and I agree that convicted kidnappers should be unapologetically snuffed out regardless of whether their victims make it out alive, thanks to technology combined with improved investigation techniques, more than half of the kiddos do make it home. Apparently, finding them in the first 48-72hrs vastly improves the chances of a positive outcome so if you hear about a missing local kid and a request for volunteers to help search, all able-bodied people should honor that request.

      @Doves It's probably because kids almost always don't understand the outcome that follows being kidnapped. They don't fully understand that this event could have directly lead to them being killed or even worse.
      Even if their parents teach them "don't talk to strangers, don't go with anyone", it's usually a rule that they don't fully understand and only follow because their parents told them to.

    • @Sam__N_K
      @Sam__N_K Před rokem +4

      @Doves kids don’t go around thinking they’re going to be r@ped or murdered. That’s not something they think about or even realize until much later. They’re not out there listening to these horrific cases.
      And kids usually think they can get out of every situation easily. They overestimate themselves. He probably thought he’d get away from this guy, or a cop (example A) would get them, or that he would fight him off himself.

    • @madeleine61509
      @madeleine61509 Před rokem +1

      @Doves Kids usually only react negatively to that if the kidnapper is actively acting in a way that would scare children even if they weren't kidnapped (i.e. yelling, threatening, or using physical force). The man in this situation seemed to have a very normal demeanour, thus wouldn't provoke that reaction in children.
      Again, I think the vast majority of children wouldn't react in a negative way. Most of the kids you see distraught and crying so soon after that sort of event are doing so because the kidnapper yelled at and threatened the kid(s). Again, children cannot comprehend these sorts of extreme and long-term consequences, and they especially cannot comprehend the idea that human beings just go around murdering each other for fun. Could a child EVENTUALLY come to the conclusion that they won't see their family again? Yeah, probably. But that isn't some immediate realization as it is for adults when this sort of thing happens. As an adult, if someone you don't know and weren't expecting gets into your car, your IMMEDIATE thought is "this person is going to kill me". For children, it can take hours or days of processing to understand the sort of gravity of the situation.

      I don't appreciate the short edited clips cops release, and the completely lacking police narratives with 0 substance. If they kept it quiet because they were looking into who he was working with, that would be great, but I have 0 faith left in American cops and want the footage we pay for whenever possible. This would be an exception considering the nature of the event, but it's every single time now they control the narrative and I don't give the benefit of the doubt any longer. I would like to know why he didn't have his gun out, why he didn't order the kids out of the car, if parents there should be more cautious(which honestly goes without saying but that looked like he might not have been alone). And yeah, so happy they are okay. So many stories end badly, it's good to win one for once. That cop is a hero, and I don't say that lightly like most.
      P.S yeah, they don't sound terrified. Not sure what you mean lol. But it's most likely because they were misled, it's not hard to trick a little kid. That's why when I heard him repeating stuff most public schools teach now, reciting "he's not my dad" I was so thankful for the consideration of our teachers. Because who knows what he would do if that wasn't trained into him. You can see the monsters face when the kid says it, he knows he's screwed.

      But if really a lunatic is controlling ukraine, he is biden, and we can clearly see that he was never interested in the life or property of the ukrainians because no real president of ukraine in his right mind would break security agreements with russia or put himself to assassinate everyone who speaks Russian, on top of that there are millions of Russian-speakers in Ukraine but the Nazi terrorist groups already said that everyone who is pro-Russian had to leave the country, a government of exclusion when it should be one of inclusion and take care of the Ukrainians, instead of murdering them.
      Thus, with a madman like Biden in charge, exactly what is happening is happening, using the Ukrainians as cannon fodder, those who govern the United States in the shadows, the bankers and arms corporations are not interested in the lives of the Ukrainians to nothing, it was not like "they did not realize or expect Russia to invade" because they just knew for years and decades that it was a red line to put nuclear missiles on the borders with Russia.
      Do not be naive, do you really believe that the United States would peacefully allow Mexico to join Russia and China in a military organization and fill the US borders with nuclear missiles "because they are free to defend themselves as they wish"? Do you really believe that the US was going to let that happen peacefully without saying anything????? ???????
