  • Using a Greenleaf "The Orchid" Dollhouse kit and turning it haunted dollhouse. I take you through the step by step build and highlight the decorating aspects of turning a standard dollhouse and turning spooky for the season. This is a perfect halloween dollhouse makeover that will leave you with a heirloom piece to pass on.
    Alternatively, this example can be displayed during all seasons of the year due to the reserved weathering and design aspects used on this dollhouse.
    This DIY Dollhouse project took about 40+ hours of work so if you are looking to quickly create this decor, find a simple pre built house at your local hobby shop and use the weathering tactics I show.

    I have this same dollhouse kit, haven't built it yet and now I'm glad of it! I was trying to decide how i wanted to do the exterior walls and i love your idea of adding siding. Mine will be a Christmas cottage so a little less aged but your techniques are great! I also love the lighting! Great job and thanks for the ideas! :)

    I love watching Halloween DIY's after Halloween. I love how you did the weathering and distressed look to the house. I'm new to making DIY crafts but inspired by your video. Where did you get the Greenleaf "The Orchid" Dollhouse kit from?
    You mentioned that you use a light green color to paint the house. What is the specific color name that you used?
    Thanks,

    Looks like this is your first venture into dollhouses? If you want more weathering techniques you can check out the terrain builders for role playing games like North of The Border, or Black Magic Craft, or dollhouse miniature channels like Bentley House Minis and the Darkest Raven, think that's the name. Once you find them more will pop up

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 Před 2 lety

      Aww, was hoping you'd do the inside of the house too. A really fast way to make a place look haunted and abandoned is to board up some of the windows. And if you use wooden stir sticks to make hardwood floors, the trick to them looking real is apparently to put two "nail hole" marks at the end of each and every plank.

    • @YourOwnAdventure
      @YourOwnAdventure  Před 2 lety +3

      You are correct! You'll notice my channel doesn't necessarily scream dollhouse builder but I love miniatures and modeling so I try and share whatever I can with good keywords so other community folk can find some examples. I actually came across Bentley House by the way of this dollhouse. I saw she posted a brief video about it years ago and I decided that it could benefit from additional coverage. Thanks for your insight and references! I learned a lot about my miniature modeling throughout this process (Nscale trains are my true vice). That I can take my time with them and they'll only get better. I'll save this house as a pass down toy for future kids but any future dollhouse projects will be deliberate and long term. I'm still working on the interior so I'll make sure to post an update about it.

      @@YourOwnAdventure great! It's addicting but so many things can be made with cheap stuff. Bentley made a house and furnished it with cardboard for the lockdown. Another lady I just recently found makes everything with cardboard, foil, tape, paper Madge (edit: mache not Madge, stupid autocorrect) and then paint, her channel is Where the Gnomes Live. She's building a HUGE tree with all kinds of rooms in it, really organic she doesn't measure anything. I've always loved miniatures but also Star Trek and Star Wars. I have trouble focusing on just one thing. Miniatures encompass a lot of different art forms
      There is some place where you can get used houses to fix up in one of the states, can't remember the name but there's a video tour if it.

    How much siding did you need for this house? I just bought the same one, and wanted to make sure I get the right amount.

    • @YourOwnAdventure
      @YourOwnAdventure  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it was about 2-3 poster boards that I used. If you are looking for longevity out of it (more than 5 years) I'd use a proper glue instead of hot glue!

  • @DulceN
    @DulceN Před 11 měsíci +1

    Nice looking house, overall, but it drove me nuts seeing that you only paint the front of some pieces (i.e.: window trims) instead of going around and the brown stain on the door and window ‘glass’. It all depends on the degree of perfection and detail one prefers.

    Did you have to sand the pieces? If so, then did you sand them before they were popped out? Also, did you have to use primer?

    • @YourOwnAdventure

      I did not sand, aside from any rough edges. No priming just acrylic craft paint.

    How did you make the thin red wash for the shingles and more importantly the pavement wash? I’m working in the Orchid now for a haunted house and this is by for the most amazing one I’ve seen. Love the pavement wash idea but can’t find anything on how to do it! Outstanding job and great video! 👻

    • @YourOwnAdventure
      @YourOwnAdventure  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! Red wash and pavement wash are both just the colors of paint mixed with water. You want it nearly the same flow as water when you're adding it to the house.

      @@AnnMarie-ue2ew Pavement is a color. It looks more gray like dust. I applied it to the majority of the house but I'd probably not do the shingles as it can make them warp and more likely to free from the glue.

      @@YourOwnAdventure THANK YOU! I'm going to give it a try. I did my exterior in a burnt umber color with crackle paint. the "cracks" are slate gray and cream underneath.
