      Avalon tops the list for me. But I could pick from dozens more and be still happy with my choice. An effortless and humble legend !

      I've always been a King's X fan but hated their mixes. Bob re-mixed a handful of their songs on The Best of King's X and did what I thought was a fantastic job. The drums are clearer. The bass is still rumbling, but more controlled.

    I am the Russian Dragon “guy in Texas” that Bob talks about at 20:45 in the video. Bob was always very encouraging about my Russian Dragon box.
    I used to do real (reel) tape flanging that Bob talks about in the video. We would flip the phase of one machine so that the “zero crossing” was a complete null. Of course, where in the song the zero crossing would occur was hit or miss - so you would have to try it 100 times before you got it to happen at the correct spot in the song!
    Question: On Bob’s new Flanger plug in, can you do “zero crossing” and can you adjust the time (spot in the song) of the zero crossing?

    I use Clearmountain's Domain on almost every mix. You can never run out of ideas for it and I think I learn something new every time I use it. I now have Phases and haven't even gotten that deep in it yet. But can't wait to just throw it onto something.

  • @PuRe_AdDicT
    @PuRe_AdDicT Před 2 lety +2

    Everything is "just so"...
    The fact he could pull up a mix from 40 years ago onto the board he was currently using for a new mix and have it 95% there.
    The piano delay he created early in the vid appears on the piano channel of Born in the USA. Still using the same channel for piano 40 years later :D
    I really enjoyed the setup tour vid, but even hearing these small things makes a lot more sense of the setup.

    I can hear why he went through the trouble to recreate these long gone MXR units. You can hear the original on Bowie's voice on "China Girl" from Lets Dance where he sings she says "SHHHHHH" you hear that flange kick in. Awesome!

      I figured out once that the new MXR units don't sound the same as the old ones. The ones from the 70s and 80s had a much different sound that IMO is better,. Every year they changed and declined.

    What a fab video. Everything Bob touches sounds superb. That album was huge at the time. Bob's job was helped a lot be the fact Adams had, and continues to have, a superb band and one of the best drummers in the business in Mickey and not forgetting Pat's great work in the drum chair on the album too. The Into The Fire album that came after Reckless was beautifully done by BC.

    I really like the look of the ModComp.. that way of being able to visualise the behaviour of the attack and release against the waveform is an excellent approach. I tend to be someone that twiddles with compression, knowing what it does, but not what the values are doing. And it means that I never know even whether I should be applying it.

    What I can't wrap my head around is the lack of mud in the guitar solo from the Bryan Adams song. It's absolutely drenched in reverb and delay, but it doesn't seem to negatively impact the clarity and definition. I wonder how the EQ and filters were set.
