What I like about this is that this DIY could be applicable for anything to do with notebooks (such as making a planner or checkbook or something for school or to-do lists, etc.)!
This is a really great idea...since I've gotten back in to drawing I wanted to have a little sketchbook I could fit in my purse so that if I get inspiration while I'm out and about I can just take it out and draw...but the small ones I found online weren't exactly what I wanted,so this is a great idea to just make my own...and it looks really easy too...thanks for sharing this it's a great idea :)

Placing them under heavy books or in a book press helps them lay flatter
.....Have you ever drawn a hippo? I've never seen somebody draw a hippo before. You should do a random animal of the week or day and then share them with us!

Humans have limited visual memories and to get animals accurate using reference is necessary. But also attempt to move the figure and pose and picture the geometric bases forms and proportions. Doing skeletal studies, musculature studies and studies of parts of the bodies. The proportions and underlying shape forms are also necessary. I also recommend studying the animal itself, ecology, biology and motion. Watch nature specials and read encyclopaedias and articles. Watching them move in a nature documentary or even better real life will help you make lively art and movements, poses and animation. Even still with excessive study one can begin to draw a subject without reference, particularly if stylized. Also remember you can use several references rather than direct copying one to make an original piece. Nice tips inspires me to make some mini sketchbooks again myself.

it's a lot easier to draw animals if you draw the basic shapes first. i usually draw the shoulder blade part first, then the hind legs and then the head, to make sure it's the right size. and after that you place all the details

i'm in the process of making 4 watercolor sketch books, disc bound, glued edges, one fabric covered and one leather like material both of the last will be around book board, and one with a canvas cover which i am going from paint first with water color ground so i can use watercolors to decorate it or gouache which i got today for the first time , sounds like a lot of work and i've been up since 2 am till now so i was messing up so bad from being exhausted i had to put it all down(all over the living room lol)

I love making my own sketchbooks and journals! I actually took a class at school and I know how to do 3 types of book sewing. It's very useful honestly :) I love you book though! For the glue, you could also use PVA if you didn't know about that
I love everything that has the word "mini" in it haha 😂 perhaps because I can only draw small things, even if it's on a A4 sheet

Just one question: why didn't you use your paper cutter/paper trimmer to "shorten" the pages after stitching them together?
Just lay the book flat (opened in the middle) and cut each half of the book with the cutter/trimmer.
Should be easier and cleaner than cutting with the exacto-knife.
