We hope you are enjoying our videos! We noticed that many comments are posted criticising the length of Oblivion. It's prudent to mention that the ride was the prototype B&M Dive Coaster and was revolutionary at the time of opening in 1998. A vertical / near vertical drop had never been done before, let alone a 180ft drop which 90ft of it is underground. The ride formed a solid basis to be improved upon as we see today with attractions like Sheikra, Valravn and Emperor, much like Air / Galactica did with newer B&M Flying Coasters.
Exactly
My first ride on this was 20 years ago, I've been back several times since with last weekend been the most recent. The oblivion was my favourite then and still is now. The length of the ride (IMO) is irrelevant
Thanks for the clarification. I was wondering why it was shockingly short, having recently ridden my first dive coaster at Cedar Point (Ohio, USA). The one they have is over 1 kilometer long with a double drop, and I had no knowledge of the history of dive coasters.
The trick at AT is to go several times before 10am & after 4pm. I dunno if it's just me or do they speed them up a little at peak times to help the queueing out? In this video the wait at the top is almost zero but years ago sat on the precipice for like 10 seconds which adds to the fear.
@@Lee_303 It does stop on the holding brake for a shorter amount of time than a few years ago. Not sure why.
When you watch it, they only hang over the edge for a second but that second feels like a decade when you’re actually on it
it changes depending on how busy the ride is
@@iitzfizz we were on it for a whole minute 🥲
its actually between around 1-5 seconds, i didnt know that on my first ride and so i counted to 1 expecting to drop and didnt so when it actually dropped i swear it was the scariest moment of the day
No
I went on it during term time last year. Honestly it was around 5 seconds when we dropped I was sat there for a bit thinking why haven't we dropped then the shuttle ( car ) released and we dropped I was like 😱
First non-family coaster I've been on at Alton towers! It removed my fear of rollercoasters completely!
I dont think it'll remove my fears
@moxxiq wiker man didn't remove my fears so this definitely won't
moxxiq smiler isn’t scary
@@ivanyates8221 for you it isn't but for me it is
moxxiq I’m 11 lol
The first thing i said was:
"wait, that's it"
same
14 year old me said the same thing only good thing about it being short is you get on it quicker
Yeah, seams a massive waste to have such a short track. They must have built this as a test track. "Hey, we have some suckers willing to buy a short track, let's see what happens before we build anything else with this idea". So, this park gets shafted on a real actual ride.
@@MotoAtheist Quite the opposite, this was the first ever drop coaster by B&M, it was the first ever "vertical drop", and was opened in 1998. The ride is over 20 years old! While it may be short, this was because it was the literal cutting edge of coaster tech at the time, whilst also factoring in the park's treeline restrictions!
SAMEE
this ride is my favourite, it’s so short but so exhilarating and amazing
I hope people know that this was one of the very first roller coasters of its kind
The first
@@christatum5715 yup
Literally nobody knows that. All the gp that go know not even the tiniest things. My home park is Canada’s wonderland and I’ve gone 3 times this summer and there were so many people who know nothing. Literally everyone didn’t know what a queue line was, I also heard someone say that they wish mighty Canadian minebuster had a loop, it’s a 40 year old wooden coaster
@@mudkipp86 Seriously?
@@maddies921 yep.
Where has the mist gone? It feels a little strange without it and you see into the hole easier.
ikr
I can confirm that the mist was working when I visited this week. It must have been down on the day this was filmed.
Charlie Flinders I think the channel said this was filmed after close time or just around close time, and I think the theme park turned the mist off for the camera man/girl so the camera lenses didn’t get damp and blurry. Etc explains why we hardly saw people in the park at the drop.
Charlie neighbours complained 🙄
i'm just going to steam this ham. gets on oblivion.
Oblivion is a special coaster for me. It was the first coaster that I rode at Alton Towers and it was the first coaster that I rode since becoming an enthusiast in 2020
i am sorry but this is not the first u have rode because i have been alton towers around 9 times now and i have not been on oblivion a single time because of how scary it is
@@Brekbo7826 it is
@@Brekbo7826 you can't just deny someone's facts like that cos ur too much of a pussy GP to ride it
the thing that i would probaly find most scary about this is the wait going up
I agree with you, plus you don’t expect it will be that steep of a climb but no it got me how steep the climb was
@@Estroniaid you've never been in a vehicle over 68mph?
I think its the best pov
But weird without:
Screaming
Mist
Crowd at bottom
Thanks! The POV was filmed after park close. Although the mist looks great, it would have made the camera lense damp and blurry.
@Michael Yes - same with our Galactica and second Wicker Man POVs.
@@AttractionSource wait, how did you get it if the park was closed!???!!?????

Bring back the smoke Merlin!
Wonder if they'll ever go floorless.
Would heighten the sensation alot! Never actually been on a floorless coaster so that would be cool!
I did Scare fest and the mist was there I just think it wasn’t working this day.
@@toastyscupboard6910 The newer Dive Coasters feature floorless trains, with your feet dangling above the track.
Felice Graziano I’ve been a few times and when I went at scarefest the mist was on , I think it just depends on when you go and wether it’s working that day
I was at Scarefest 2018 during half term, no mist sadly
The view you get from the top makes me think it really came close to breaching the treeline limit. John Wardley's a genius.
this is the one ride at alton that truly made me scream „holy shit”, apologies if you were on the same circuit
I'm actually at alten Tower today bc it's my birthday, and I went on that ride! I literally cried
sadly , these videos do no justice . when you drop , the sheer force makes your eyes water . the dark bit at the bottom is freezing cold and so is the mist . in the end , itll have you laughing and thinking ' holy fuck ' while you wipe your eyes and prepare to go see your mess of a photo www
( also , the seats are really comfortable - the bar at the front might make your stomach hurt the tiniest bit for a minute or less ww !! it wont make you feel sick , and the ride is overall very enjoyable - my friend was crying because she was on the front row but we both ended up laughing and saying we enjoyed it )
My favourite ride, we had a couple of 12 hours days during extended Halloween open days, I think we went on at least 30 rides. Maybe about 5 times on this one. Then trying to get to sleep on the night your brain gives you a free ride just lying in bed too, bonus :)
Oblivion is my favourite ride at Alton Towers resort.
christian langdale mines Rita
Mine is either The Smiler or Wicker Man
I love nemesis but oblivion is close second
@@C.Woodford 1. Nemesis and it always will be.
2. Smiler
The rest of the rides I all love too can't be bothered to rank
I actually didn’t know you were allowed to film this, mainly for fear of dropping your phone, but I’m definitely going again. One of, if not THE best attractions they’ve got to date.
All our POVs are shot in conjunction with the park, on specific camera equipment :)
You're not allowed to film it. This was filmed professionally and with permission from the park. Please do not film on roller coasters.
@@triple7marc Yeah I’d assume so lol, was just curious. Crazy ride though
i was on this the other week when they stopped the ride nearly at the top, and over the speakers told someone to put there phone away and stop filming, when he didnt 2 or 3 staff members went up and told him to put it away.
i love Oblivion but love it more when the mist is in the tunnel
Such a fantastic drop, I just wish the hold at the top was a little longer these days.
I love that oblivion music 😂😂
Scarieness rating:
Speed: 7/10 quite fast
Drops: 8.5/10 very scary
Turns: 5/10 not scary
Theme: 7/10 quite scary theme
Overall this ride is quite fast but not terrifying also the scariest part is the nearly vertical drop. If you don’t mind steep drops you will be fine
Never been on it but doesn't seem as bad as it looks
the drop ain't near as scary as some of the taller dive coaster rops. Yes they are newer, but that's hardly an excuse
Song: 10/10
Natasha Bowen 1:54 is the most weirdest feeling ever, between the hold and the actual drop it makes you feel so weird but it’s fun after you go on it :)
@@leh4871 it's not vertical
It looks like they have removed the Smiler logo on top of the Oblivion shop in the middle of X-Sector
@Luke Starkiller it was 2011 actually
Edit: the fanta not the accident
I looked down and thought wow is this how I’m gonna die
Can't beat those views on a nice day!

And I definitely was

Best ride at alton towers in my opinion
Skull Trooper Opinion
Nah I think nemesis is the best, but oblivion is the second
No life kid 2015 smiler 1st, then nemesis, then wicker man. Don’t get why everyone says nemesis is the best like it’s good but not better than smiler imo. I think it’s just because I love being upside down
Nemi! Did u forget about nemesis my man
I’m going tommorow! I’m so excited
For anyone who is scared of roller coasters, I have a huge fear but oblivion is the best one, not scary, fun, take my word for it
Wow I never realized oblivion was just like two seconds long
I’m gonna look down in 7 days.. wish me luck!
Enjoy!

to be honest your right
ive ridden scarier ones than u
I went on it 2 days ago, it’s not as bad as you think, I’m scared of heights and rollercoasters but it’s over in a matter of seconds, it’s just the feeling in your stomach when you start going down

Omg so am I! See you there lmao, it’s my first time going, have u been b4?
Happy 24th birthday oblivion 🎉🎂😊🎊
Went on this today and I loved it
Quote from polar express that I always think of when someone mentions oblivion:
‘We are completely exposed on the front of a locomotive and are rapidly approaching glacier gulch which happens to be the steepest downhill grade in the world, I suggest we all hold on... TIGHTLY!!!!’
I have been on to Alton towers quite a few times and I have been on the Bolivian survey good roller-coaster but takes someone with a very cool call head and nerves of steel to go on it
The ride in person is crazyy
This has gotta be the shortest B&M I’m existence
That Oblivion tunnel was so DAH-ARK and scaaaaaryyyyy
It would be great if they extended it and added to the ride after the drop.
I felt my stomach go whilst watching this😭😭
“You must be smokin’ crack if you think imonna go onnat.”
Cool but too short
Catherine Breitfeller they could go twice but then if someone doesn’t like it they have to endure the suffering again
@@jolene8545 i find it good but tame i have seen lots of people scared yet join the quew again
I love the except my fear of heights says being tilted downwards while getting a view of the drop below is a NO.
first thing i said was “wait that’s it?” i liked it but younger me always told me there would be way more to it
Who in the right mind would queue up to 1hr + for this? I certainly wouldn't.
Yes, that makes you think you got ripped off when the ride only lasted seconds. If you get there early / leave late you can go several times before the locals turn up & they open up the extended queueing system. I'm sure they speed it up in peak times too (could be wrong though)?
Saw has a similar drop at Thorpe Park, at least that’s a proper ride.
i chose this as the first roller coaster to go on ( i havent been on it yet ) and now i regret saying it
Good luck!
@@AttractionSource thanks
im going tomorrow
wait no im not lol im going in like 2 months im stupid
How that thing manages to pump out 7 trains amazes me.
Also guys u gotta keep in mind. This drop is 180 feet. Only 60ft is showing out of the hole. Its a lot deeper then u think
drop and steep turn into the brake run. thrilling stuff XD the lift hill took longer. do like the tunnel though that's a nice touch. pretty much the only one of it's kind without the ubiquitous immelman after the drop.
This was my first ever rollercoaster
everytime i ride this im sitting on the back
“You must be smoking crack if you think I’m gonna go on that”
I went on this 21 years ago. Not been on it till now 😂😂
That thing is very short but looks very fun to ride!
Indeed it is very short
How high is the drop? It says 55m on wikipedia yet it also says it stands 20m high. But looking at the video it doesn't look like the drop is 55m as the underground bit is quite short it seems. I've been on this many times but years ago. In comparison Stealth at Thorpe Park is 61m but all above ground.
180ft - 90ft above and below ground.
@@AttractionSource Thanks! So you're saying Oblivion has a bigger drop than Stealth? If so then its very well disguised haha
@@Hero87 nope Stealth is bigger at 205 ft
@@astheniceel13 O I SEE i did the maths wrong. Oblivion is 90+90 above and below. So Stealth is 25ft more. Thanks
@@Hero87 no problem 👍
Is it as fast and as scarier as it looks bc for my bday I’m going there and I rlly wanna go on it but I’m rlly scared to
It’s all mind over matter. If you force yourself on you will be fine. I’m 35 I’ve been on over twenty times now since my first time in 2001, been on the bigger version in Florida and it still scares the crap out of me.
same here
Best coaster there.
Interesting, this ride was very boring for me, and almost made me fall asleep.
The drop looks tiny in the videos but you get there and jesus it’s big
I have this condition called stars I don’t know the proper name but stars is the nick name and basically when I’m really really stressed or scared of hurt I would pass out and this stopped around the age of five but on oblivion a few months ago (I’m nine now) on oblivion I passed out me cause my mum forced me on the ride while I tried to run away but I was scared because I thought my stomach would drop.the craziest thing.IT DIDN’T.i am now not scared of roller coasters at all and totally recommend this (but I don’t recommend watching hundreds of videos of oblivion the week before everyday)
You'll see me on this 😏
Dive Coaster 1 looks too short for me
I will be honest, seeing it like this, it looks quite bareboned and tame in comparison to the Baron 1989 of the Efteling. Only the drop, then a turn to the left and you're back already?
See pinned comment!
I’m going on this to get over my fear of rollercoasters first ever rollercoaster I went on was the ultimate
why are people saying it feels like it holds you for ages ive been o it 3 times and it’s like 2 seconds
Don’t look down…
No other ride feels like Oblivion. When your balls feel like they are in your throat is when you know this thing hits different. Remember riding this thing 5 times in a row at a school trip and ending up with a migrane and a nosebleed🤣
oblivion was my first time on a proper big coaster, was right in the middle of the front row. i couldnt fuckin breathe, still an amazin rude though🤩
I like go drop down
so cool
Is that it ?

I Love is ride
What time was this filmed
August after park closed.
Can u do this in 4K?
Stay tuned!
I’m 10 should I go on oblivion?
You have to be a certain height to go on some rides so depending on your height now you might be able to might not
yeah i first rode it when i was 10, give it a go, you'll love it!
In 11. I went on air, rita and oblivion. I'm still yet to go on smiler or nemesis. But tbh those 3 are the the less scary ones. Rita is just fast. Oblivion is more underwhelming when u get on it. I said Wait what it's over? After I got off. And air is another step up. Because of an inversion that stays inverted for about 13 seconds. But it feels like flying. Not inversion. The kindest 2 tho is oblivion and rita. Although rita can be rough.
@@stuartolding4852 for me, Oblivion was great, better then Rita or Air, but they are all completely different rides which serve a different purpose. I love Air's flying sensation too, as it's gloss smooth. Rita is just ok for me
@@Archman155 no. It's a great ride. Better than air and rita no doubt. The point got me is air is gonna be a step up because it has a long inversion.
OBLIVION
THAT IS SO SCARY
Does it just go up the lift, go down that one dive through the tunnel, and bank coming out and it’s over?? Doesn’t look like there’s much to this ride! The ride itself is probably over faster than getting on and going up the lift! Lol
LOVE IY THOO
I’m going tomorrow on it for the first time and I’m 11 I’m terrified can someone reasure me?
Why do people love oblivion it's so short!
