"Farage Roared From Outside Parliament" Ben Habib Responds To Sacking As Reform UK Deputy Leader

  • Former Reform UK deputy leader Ben Habib says he is "concerned" about "the mechanisms by which decisions are made" within the party after he was replaced.
Joining Talk's Kevin O'Sullivan, he said: "Nigel lost his seat seven times, it didn’t stop him making one hell of a roar from outside Parliament."
Reform announced the parliamentary roles their MPs will be taking on as leader Nigel Farage aims to “professionalise” the party.
MP Richard Tice moves from the role of chairman to become deputy leader replacing Mr Habib, while Lee Anderson MP will become the chief whip.
Mr Habib has been a major player in Reform, serving as a Member for the European Parliament for the then-Brexit Party.
Reform returned five MPs in last week’s election but Mr Habib was one of the hundreds of unsuccessful candidates, finishing third in the Wellingborough and Rushden seat.

I would put him in charge of co-ordinating the building of the 'movement', creating the nationwide network of canvassers and activists at constituency level that will support future parliamentary candidates in a way that was impossible at such short notice this time (and that would've made the C4 fiasco much more difficult to spring). The 'parliamentary party' has to be parliamentary in order to be a serious contender for government, or even opposition, in 2029. Otherwise they'll be seen as just another niche group of sad little activists like the Greens, with every seat considered a monumental victory. That's not the party any of us wants, including Ben, and I think his sacrifice will be temporary and pay dividends for the party and himself in the future in such a role. His obvious popularity among supporters makes him the perfect candidate for the role, freeing up those now in Parliament to focus more on their role without getting mired down in micro-management at grassroots level that is equally important, possibly more so.
