Another thing they didn't mention here was that in the first Fallout there was also a Star Wars reference. If you go to the Military Base and talk on the radio the guards ask you about your status. One of the options to say was Han's line when the Imperial's asked him what the status on his situation was.

If you have Wild Wasteland (At least I think it's a Wild Wasteland thing, it might be normal) in New Vegas, after you take out the sniper when the NCR president is visiting the dam there is a dialogue option to say Han's line. There is also a reference to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull where you can find a skeleton in a fridge with a Indiana Jones style hat next to him in New Vegas if you have the Wild Wasteland trait.

We had an opium problem at the time Fallout 3 came out. Because morphine in Fallout acted as a highly addictive pain relief, much like it does in real life, the Australian Media Authority said, 'Hmmm, maybe this is a little too much given actual former addicts could play this game' and the rest of the world said, 'Yeah, good point.'
Especially since all other chems have names like 'Jet' and 'Psycho', calling one of them 'Morphine' was probably a little too much.

Child killer image is still used in Fallout 2 I guess, when you murder children outside it can become a "perk" and it gives you I think a permanent -10 reputation with many comunities. The shown image is this one. (it doesnt appear as a perk, but it appears on the status/karma tab on the pipboy)

The Godzilla reference reminded me of how awesome it would be to have an open-world game with dinosaurs.

I don't really know that much about it but there's a game called Turok about dinosaurs that I've seen be compared to Far Cry.
Yeah Turok is definitely more of a linear Far Cry-type game with dinosaurs. They're decent, but they can get a little monotonous. There's also Dino Crisis, which is essentially just Resident Evil with dinosaurs :P

All Interplay-released Fallout games(1, 2, and Tactics) have been removed from digital sale everywhere, because Interplay just lost the rights to sell them. Bethesda now has those rights, and have stated that they're working on getting them back up on Steam, though they're not there yet as of the time of writing. Disappointingly, though, they've had no comment about any eventual restoration to GOG.

I will never understand censorship, people know that a game that is rated adult or 18+ is going to have offensive content. The violence in Fallout like the guy getting executed was to show what kind of fucked up world you were entering and not to trust someone just because they're dressed head to toe in power armour. Drugs being called chems is fair enough as some of the stuff (like turbo) isn't actually a drug in real life so chems makes sense but I never knew you kill the children in the game because I had plenty of enemies to kill.

Only reason I'd kill the kids in Fallou2 was because they would steal items from you if you stood next to them for too long. Annoying.
While I agree on a lot of censorship being pointless and game ruining, I think Drugs being renamed Chems and Morphine being renamed Med-X worked out for the better.
Nibilim Morphine is used in medicine, so why censor it? You are getting increased damage resistance by 25%, 10% addiction rate, when you are addicted you get -1 Agility and -1 Intelligence. I think is a pretty accurate description of the drug, it reduces pain, it's addicting, you are not thinking normally and you don"t have the same agility because of your nervous system getting destroyed.
Bethesda hasn't gotten Fallout right yet, and I'm afraid they never will. This video references some of what made Fallout 1 and 2 amazing. Using drugs needs to make you high, drinking booze needs to make you drunk, and GTA V proves that throwing a few boobs around here and there isn't going to hurt your profits. They need to take the kiddy gloves off with Fallout 4!
Yes because making people salves, killing people for money and nuking people is so weak sauce. You clearly have a very narrow minded and immature view of what makes games great, Fallout is one of the few games that wears it's age rating of 18+ with pride and is completely neutral when it comes to how morally good or evil the player wishes to be.

Fallout 1 and 2 were the best of the Fallouts, although I didn't absolutely hate New Vegas either I suppose.

TheIronMexican Fallout 3, in my opinion was the best.
Fallout 3 was a hot mess. It was fun at times, even compelling in a few places, but it in no way matched the breadth or scope of the original two games. Sure, graphically it was hands and fist better, but it also came out roughtly 11 years after the initial game did, so you can't really compare them that way. Story-wise, options-wise, hell... Even humor and conversation-wise the first game beats the third one into oblivion. I mean, consider the fact that you can play the original game from start to finish without killing anyone, and still beat the game that way. I am not an elitist prick when it comes to old games - plenty of my favorite games are much newer, but when you compare Fallout 1 to Fallout 3 - and I am sorry, even to New Vegas - they just do not hold a legitimate candle to them.

You know, I agree about the first and second being great, but I tend to try and not relate them in anyway apart from there name, the gameplay, structure and the whole general aura you got from them are completely different to 3 and New Vegas, although that could come down to the advantage in technology that 3 and NV had.
Although for some reason I never really played NV with the same passion I did for 3, I loved the "Lone Wanderer" feel I got from 3, actually scavenging in the barren wasteland, whereas NV felt a little too crowded to me, seemed like every 2 minutes I was stumbling across a town.
Still, I love them all for their own things I guess.

When I first saw the thing I was 5 my friends played the game and said that the game " was way to creepy to ever be bought for kids" I thought it was cool ( I was a science nerd ). I never really got scared by the fallout games the only time I got genuinely scared by them was in fallout 3 when I turned around and a freakin Yao gui was there
Bethesda should really work on taking Fallout and Fallout 2 and putting them on consoles. Don't change it to what Fallout 3 and New Vegas is just like when you port a console game to PC, but port the PC game to console and make it avalible for PS3 and PS4 and Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The only thing they could try and do is change it to be like HD to graphics like FO3 and NV, but keep it the gameplay the game as it was for PC.
That would be a real bitch to control with a joystick. Fallout 1 and 2 were designed for the mouse with some light keyboard shortcuts.
I mean, yeah, feasible, but irritating nonetheless.
An HD remaster on mobile and handhelds would be much more welcome.

TheNorth15 Unfortunately the Wii U doesn't have much hope left. Devs don't have any faith in the console anymore and some even consider it a last gen system. But the PS3 proved very well that HD remasters can work wonders. I own most all the remasters made for the console and they're almost all better than the originals

Also a fun fact that wasn't mentioned here - the iconic fallout boy with his thumbs up isn't actually using the iconic "good job/im fine" symbol, but using actually measuring an atomic explosion - the american goverment explained during the cold war that if you see an atomic explosion, you must quickly hold your thumb over it. should your thumb cover it, the risk of radiation is small to nonexistent, however, should it be bigger than thumb, turn around, run like hell, and search for the nearest shelter possible.

I've known for a long time that you could measure an atomic explosion like that, but I never thought that Vault Boy was doing that. I think the whole thing is mentioned somewhere in FO3, sans the part about Vault Boy measuring it.
Now, that's after you duck and cover from the initial flash. Turns out duck-and-cover is about the flash, which is bright to the point where it physically burns. Then after the flash should you run like hell from the radiation and explosion.

Levels of radiation depend on dropping place and magnitude, yes, but also on a lot more factors. Don't trust me? Look it up yourself. You will not find any data pointing that he is right.

Austin Iverson You can't get it on GoG anymore. If you're lucky, you can get a physical copy on eBay, as they do not sell it on Steam or any other digital sources anymore.
chasharv on steam the only reason you can't buy it is because Bethesda is changing the credits in the game and making the game playable on newer PCs. I have the game on both steam and GoG. The game won't be down forever though :D they are just changing it, then they will reupload it to steam.

Wal-mart was selling copies for a long time that came with 1,2 and Tactics. I bought one that was for Vista I think, and not long after they had them for windows 7. Whether or not they still sell them I don't know, they don't sell computer games like they used to.

Yeah man, give it another try! I was a huge Fallout 3 fan, but hated New Vegas when it first came out. I came back to it about a year later and have probably put more hours into it than 3 at this point. It definitely has a different feel to it than 3, but once you get into it, it's great.
i like new vegas more because it was more chearful and if you don't like it i understand it took me a while to like it

Something you forgot to mention is the Vault Boy is not actually giving a thumbs up. When you see a mushroom cloud, you are supposed to raise your thumb infront of you, and close one of your eyes. If the cloud is bigger than your thumb, you are in a radiation zone, and need to evacuate.
I dunno why, but whenever I remind myself of this I imagine such vaoult boy doing this beign about 5km (or any other not-far distance) from the bomb explosion place.

Fallout 3 has a better location and story. New Vegas butchered Iron sights and the physics, a gun doesn't go through your body when you holster it when running. It's not that easy being the "best".

Does censorship bother me? No because you wouldn't even know that a game is censored unless someone told you or you played multiple versions of a game. Japanese media tends to over sexualize middle schoolers. I say "over" because in the U.S., sex and middle schoolers don't go together. Personally, girl on girl action between prepubescent teens isn't my cup of tea, and a lot of Americans will feel the same way. That is when censorship will take place. On the flip side, american video games can get pretty brutal. Blowing up heads with a shotgun isn't such a big deal; many of us has grown used to such violence. But that doesn't mean everyone has grown used to such violence. That is when censorship takes place. Censorship takes place depending on the intended audience. Fan service in Germany may not be the same as fan service in Brazil
You can get married when you are 16 in Japan, therefore sexualizing middle schoolers is not only necessary but it's also legal. It's not the same in America by law, however that isn't the issue since censorship tends to be focusing on smaller issues such as black faces of certain characters or religious symbols which belongs to religions that aren't commonly practiced. Human trafficking, child murdering are never referenced in any medium (including games) simply because even small issue like colors are thought as sensitive by Americans
I get annoyed with it here in Europe for one reason more than any other nowadays. Germany. If Germany wants to censor anything in a game for some reason it's also censored for the rest of Europe. That's BS. U.K should not be effected we should have the same game as the U.S as we're both pretty much the same in terms of tastes, culture, taboos, morality etc.
Craig Sloan Erm... U.K. isn't really effected by it. I live in Germany and buy the uncensored games either in Austria (german language, but uncensored) or in the U.K., so not everything get's censored in complete Europe. And Germany doesn't censor (or the USK, what many believe here), the game developers censor the game to be allowed to sell it in Germany.
1, 2 and NV are definitely the best FO games. Tactics and 3 are rather mediocre.

Better story (fallout 3's felt like bad fanfiction), improved on the not-great gameplay. Factions.BoS isn't portrayed as knights in shining armor for no reason. DLCS didn't shit all over 10+ years of fallout lore (Mothership Zeta).

In Fallout 3 in the mission "The power of the atom" where you use a pulse charge to detonate the atomic bomb in Megaton they removed the character Mr. Burke from the Japanese version of the game due to the atomic bombings at the end of world war 2 (Fatman/Little Boy).

I'm surprised that the 'Child Killer' picture was censored, what with all the enthusiasm for abortions and the like; they could have just replaced the word 'baby' with 'fetus' and no one would have cared... and if anyone had complained, they would have been in the minority.

When babies are about to be born (or between seven to nine months), they look exactly the same as they do outside of the womb. Doesn't that mean that you can legally kill a baby outside of the womb, because it isn't any different than a baby between seven to nine months inside the womb? And if you can do that, who's to say that you can't kill a one year old; it isn't much different than a newborn. And if you can do that... well, where would you propose that we put the limit? Thus, killing a fetus in the womb is the same as killing a child, but calling it a fetus and using the kicked-pregnant-mother picture will convey what you want to convey without making most people angry. It's all about semantics...

Consciousness is something of a subjective state; it's not a hard and fast rule like 'this is a bird because it has feathers and lays eggs and has wing-ish protrusions'. You can't say, in a scientific paper, 'For this paper, a bird is defined as any vertebrate'; you can be much more loose with the definition of consciousness. For example, is someone with Down's Syndrome conscious by all definitions of consciousness? Besides, the fetus will eventually reach consciousness for most definitions of consciousness; why is it okay to terminate it before it reaches consciousness and not after? What if the fetus was an early bloomer and, rather than terminating a multi-cellular organism, you killed a human being? Face it, if it is okay to kill a fetus, killing a child out of the womb of any age would be similarly acceptable.

1:25 I love the references to other games/media in videogames. Fallout and Borderlands do a great job with how much referenced content is in their games. Fallout has physical Easter eggs around the world and Borderlands has a tonne of virbal references. Both have cool reference guns/weapons like the Unkempt Harold and the Holy Hand Grenade. Find a reference Easter egg without a guide is awesome in these games. I remember finding the Holy Hand Grenade for the first time in New Vegas and laughing.
