    Frankie Lymon was born with an incomparable voice. For someone so young, he sang with a maturity, nuance, emotion and feeling far beyond his years. Unfortunately, he had no one to look after him and protect him from exploitation in the beginning years of rock and roll.
    What was so amazing is that he made it look incredibly easy. He sang with an ease and confidence that belied his youth. One of the truly great young voices to ever come along.
    I only wish that he did not leave us too soon. Drug addiction claimed his life and deprived us all of his great talent.
    This version of Over the Rainbow is so beautifully done that it brings me to tears.

      ....man, I have sworn by Little Michael Jackson for decadeszzz..!..but I have to bow lowww to Frankie....low..!...as you have said, the 'extras' that Mike had, Frankie had...maybe even a little more ! - nuance, maturity, emotion....and this was a kid !...there's a tendency to think that this is the adult Frankie, because of his grown-up suits, but Frankie has a few mature-voiced recordings (still sounding Great !) from his 20's.
      Frankie - a Badd Dude !
      .....and this cat wrote Hits from he was a kid, something our super-talented Mike didn't catch til he was a few years older. Rest in Peace, you guys....love you.

Who's life is more wasted...the guy who buries his talent and trades his shot at success for the safety and security of a 9 to 5 job, or the guy who gives up his safety and security for a shot at the brass ring, and achieves fame, fortune, and immortality. We come and go and no one even knows we were ever here, but they will never forget Frankie Lymon. As the man says, ask not for whom the bell tolls.

    @JeffRebornNow it's truly heart-wrenching for those that love to create for the pure sake of creation - to have their 'heART' exploited due to MANMADE materialism.
    your art is representation of your heart, mind, and soul -- so, when folks taint it for their own selfish greed: gloom.
    Frankie wasn't able to cut off those invisible puppet strings. he couldn't necessarily just get out, either. any creative soul knows that not expressing yourself is the equivalent of purposely not breathing.

    It often seens as though some artists -- poets, actors, singers, musicians -- are so sensitive to the stimuli of the world, that there talent -- which is based on that sensitivity -- comes at a great cost. The world is often too much for them. They need not have had the worst of lives, but they felt every pain and frustration acutely; whereas, someone with a coarser nature would not have been so affect.

    it's difficult to be authentic and heartistically expressive in this narcissistic, egotistic, captalistic, and materialistic world. it usually thrust the 'conflicted gifted' into unbearable depressive stupor, reclusion, and self-hatred.

    I don't think it was the drugs as much as his maturing voice. He belted and slew as a kid, and once his voice drop dropped (post Rock and Roll LP) it was over. Could he have adapted to the soul era? Dunno. BUT I agree...Frankie vs MJ at 13......FRANKIE ALL THE WAY!

    • @felixthecat2786
      @felixthecat2786 Před 8 lety +7

      +Frank Czuri Agreed. Frankie lost his voice in the same way that many child soloists lose their voice. He is using too much tongue depression to get that big, huge adult sound. It's something he created growing up by trying to imitate adult singers. Children have remarkably flexible vocal chords and they can rebound from a great deal of vocal damage. Once the child reaches adulthood and goes through puberty (usually seen in boys, but occasionally with young female vocalists), their vocal chords can no longer take the intense pressure placed on them.
      Other examples include Billy Gilman, Shaheen Jafargholi. It's a shame to see society encouraging the "child star" syndrome and always in the same way. It never ends well for the child. I can't think of any child singer (using the same methods) whose voice transitioned well...except perhaps Frankie Lymon. He could have moved onto Motown ballads had he lived longer.

    • @jessiedoggie1
      @jessiedoggie1 Před 6 lety +4

      Yeah, I think Felix's comment and yours are the reason he drifted into drug abuse. His adult , voice lacked the power and rich overtones of his younger higher voice, where he could do anything vocally he wanted to. He was still a good singer, but not much differentiated from others, and had trouble getting work. That drove him to drugs with the fateful outcome too prevalent in so many today.
