Oh totally. It's a disappointment to go 80 or 90% of the way with presentation and just not bother with the last step of cleaning and painting the track. 😢
@@AudreyMealiffyea, because painting the track would be a quick 5 min job 😂
@pugheadxsi They've had all winter, in fairness. 🤔🤔🤔 And a pressure wash could be done in a few hours or a few days, keeping rides clean is a pretty basic thing.
@@AudreyMealiff see how much of colossus Thorpe managed to paint in a closed season. It’s not as easy as you think. Pressure wash maybe, but certainly not paint.
The updates to this ride are great but only having one train will be a massive problem on busy days in the summer. I remember when shockwave was new back in 1994 when it had the two trains running the queue wasn't too bad, having only one train will be a killer for this. Great video as always

I love what Drayton have done here and I like the new trains. I agree a surf board on the front with the new Logo printed on it would certainly finish the trains off nicely.

When you say to Drayton Manor "hey, we are filming what is essentially a 25min advert for your park, can we film on ride?" What on earth is thier logic of saying no?!?

@@David-R-Hall having a camera strapped safely and securely to your body like Shawn does IS safe. Other parks around the world allow this!
If you don’t have secure equipment for recording that can be mounted on to your body (chest mount, head mount, wrist mount), they can’t let you do it because they would be liable for any injuries like you dropping the filming equipment onto someone walking below, or onto the tracks, which could risk derailing one of the trains. It’s pretty reasonable considering we know how much parks have to pay if a ride hurts people onboard, don’t we, smiler?
@@David-R-Hall for general public holding loose iphones, yes. A professional youtuber with a secured GoPro is petfectly safe.
@@stephenelliott7071 I don’t dispute that a chest mount is deemed secure in some parks, especially those in Europe. But the majority of parks in this country do not allow on ride filming for the safety of everyone and no doubt at the recommendation of their insurers. Shawn used the official POV which was completely acceptable and he sets a great example by following the park rules.
Thats the most bare bones new coaster train I've ever seen. Hopefully they can add some theming to it in the future.
I can understand why they changed it to a sit down coaster with the park leaning towards the family demographic, but personally I wish it had stayed a stand up, it was a big point of attraction to the park. And while it could be rough, I always felt like that contributed to the individual ride experience, even though it may not be generally beneficial. That’s probably me being biased towards it though because I always loved it as a standup
They know alton towers coasters are too much for drayton

Mentioned it on Facebook when you posted but I was at the park Friday for my sons 4th birthday and got to have a ride on The Wave. Bloody loved it!! The seats are so comfortable!! The ride op did push the restraint down a bit tight on me but not so tight that it was painful.
Being only 1.2m height restriction means that if my son had been a little taller (he's 1.1m at the mo) he would have been able to go on which is crazy to me!! He's a little young for it I think but he did have multiple rides on Accelerator which he loved =D
Gonna have to pop back later this year or next year to get on that new coaster! it looks like so much fun!!
They have done a great job!
Went on this yesterday for the first time. Superb coaster and a great introduction to inversions for my 10 year old. Smooth ride, comfortable seat and restraint and friendly staff.
Being able to watch these vlogs beforehand allows me to chose rides for my daughter carefully without scaring her and putting her off them for life. Great work!

Surfing is simply riding a wave on a board, there's no specific method for how a person should situate themselves in the board.
Standing is simply the most common/popular method, but methods such as paddling on your chest is still a type of surfing.

I used to go to Drayton every year growing up, back when Robinsons fruit shoot land was a thing! I haven’t been since 2017 and this year I’m going back with some friends for my birthday next week! I can’t wait to ride the retheme of shockwave! It looks like the seats are gforce inspired with the lap bar. Only ever rode Shockwave twice in my life because it was so painful but the wave looks great! Thanks for the review, always a great vid from you

Hoping to visit Drayton later on in the year, never been and I'll be in the area so thought might as well since i have a ton of sprare time when i arrive.
I noticed this ride had a name change do i was curious what if anything was different about it.
Great to see they've brightened up a lot of the park to help showcase it as more of a family friendly resort.
To be honest quite pleased as i only want to visit for a few hours so it's helpful to know this ride is smoother and more comfortable.
I remember as a kid watching lots of VHS rollercoaster and theme park videos, and there was one called “Wolds Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills in 3D” and Shockwave was one of the coasters featured, oh this brings back memories
and many asia trip videos very entertaining and congratulations

From a US fan who’s ridden B&M standup coasters, I wonder if they ever considered calling B&M for sit down trains. Though I’m sure these are much more comfortable.

We absolutely loved it last weekend when it opened for the passholder preview. Managed to get front row twice, including the 1st ride of the day. Unfortunately operations were really slow, with lots of teething problems including an unused back row and it seemed to close for the day shortly after.
Went again yesterday and it still seemed really slow getting it out of the station each time, coupled with being a busy bank holiday weekend the queue was all the way down the stairs and outside. We gave it a miss but I'd hate to think how long it would have taken.
Really hope they can sort things out soon as its so nicer to ride now.
Hopefully they can get these operational issues sorted soon

Gosh, as far as a retrofit, they did a great job. They have to be thrilled with how comfortable and smooth the ride experience seems to be with the new trains.
Yeah, Drayton Manor did an amazing job at re-imagining this ride and it’s much more enjoyable now.
Can’t wait to give this a try! I can remember being at the original opening in 1994, ERT on a club trip with the original cast of the “Gladiators” (Lightning, Saracen etc) might require a quick google😂 We were even given permission to ride stand up facing backwards for those who were up for it👌 I’m guessing health and safety wouldn’t allow it these days but it was awesome fun😉🎢All the best guy’s and keep up the outstanding vlogs!!

I'm actually really excited for this ride - Shockwave, for all it's flaws, was the coaster that got me into coasters as an enthusiast (the combination of a short layout and a very tame first drop made it strangely approachable to me, despite the four inversions) and I am really keen to ride it under just a lap bar!
They have done a great job with this. A very smooth ride experience!
I hope we see the brand mew roller coaster open soon at the park! Surley they will want to open it before the big summer holiday bussy period to ease it in!
Living down south we've not yet visited Drayton Manor, cant wait for the new coaster to open and we'll be there!

I went to Drayton Manor yesterday (bank holiday Monday) and had an awesome time, it’s such an underrated park and even tho it was busy most of the rides were walk on, however……..The Wave was on a 90min wait all day due to it being really popular and only having one train and I can safely say that it’s now one of the best coasters in the UK, it’s really really good and more thrilling most other UK coasters, it’s AWESOME
They have done a great job with The Wave. We really enjoyed it and it was super smooth and comfortable!

Enjoyed watching the vlog Shawn and Charlotte. The Wave sit down train looks good, I'm liking the bright yellow and black seats also the improved boarding going up to the ride. I agree the front of the train needs some theming, it looks too bare and I can't believe they didn't power wash the track 😬 We had a sneaky peak at the new ride. It's coming along really well isn't it

The new trains look great, except for the ugly yellow bar on the front. They will hopefully theme that to dusguise it a bit, and also clean the track and supports to present the ride properly.

Looks like they've done a great job there. Rode the stand up version a few times and never really liked it much. I'm all for smoothness now.

I don't recall seeing many roller coasters which have their logo on the front of the train... But Voltron looks PHENOMENAL with their logo (really big too) displayed on the trains, so I completely agree with your suggestion.
Let's hope it's a trend that catches on.

I went on Sunday for the summer nights event, was one of the worst times to go to ride The Wave.. with only one train running and the queue coming out of the entrance and then only getting what seemed was one train every 3-5 minutes out
I think it’ll be a good ride and I really like the improvements but if you’re going on a busy day you won’t be riding the way unless you wait a few hours.. can’t wait for there new coaster that looks amazing with a way higher throughput

The new coaster is looking pretty cool. I also heard that the new trains on ‘the wave’ are so much better than the shockwave trains.

The Lift & Launch coaster looks awesome probably going to be a sneaky great ride might be top 10 worthy in the UK if the theming and ride experienc is excellent.

Apparently it's having bad operational issues leading to 10-15 minute dispatches did you notice any of this on your visit?
It took around 3-4 minutes to load up the train when we visited
It went from 54in to ride to 48 or 46in to ride. Wow
Think they should make The Big One a stand up. Imagine. 😜😜😜
I was at drayton manor today and the wave kept breaking down and it took 2 hours to get on but it was worth it in the end as its silky smooth

To me now Frontier Falls Open, Adventure Cove complete there is but one area I can see being redeveloped next and that is of course Pirate's Adventure and Excalibur two huge plots of land perfect for redevelopment hopefully that will be next

This is a nice upgrade from Shockwave to The Wave.
The last time i went on this ride as Shockwave (Stand Up) was about 25 years ago.
It was also the last time i visited Drayton Manor Theme Park in general.
I have been going to Alton Towers ever since.
Alton Towers Resort is a much better theme park in my opinion anyway.
But still The Wave looks nice now and it's an OK ride.

The surfing theme for The Wave is okay but surley this would have been a better theme for when it was a stand up coasster rather than what it is now, a sit down as you stand up on a surf board not sit down but maybe im just looking far too into it!
