    That’s it Charlie, clean it with one hand and a bacon sarnie in the other if it were me! Haha. I do this daily where I work. Always messing about with other people’s kitchens and bathrooms. I’ve seen a LOT worse trust me! Loving the cabinet basin unit though! Really effective. I’ve also found the pop up wastes to gather more crap quicker. Regardless of the type of trap used. I’ll admit I’ve got one myself as they look nicer but I clean mine out a lot more often than I’d like to! Cheers mate! Take it easy.

    Thanks for the video. We have a blocked bathroom sink, on a pedestal, with just a simple U-Bend connection underneath. The water does not drain at all. Because of the pedestal its tricky to get to unscrew the connections. None the less I have unconnected everything, cleaned and put back together. However, the water is still just not draining. The outlet pipe for the waste goes into a plasterboard wall. To my mind, there must be an issue with the pipe going into the wall, or beyond. Or have I missed anything. Any further advice would be appreciated.

  • @allservepropertymaintenance

    Having an issue with a bottle trap exactly like this, cleared it out but the sink is still backing up, water will not go past the trap, any ideas? I am at a loss?

  • @velogoo
    @velogoo Před rokem

    I had this exact issue, couldn’t believe that amount of gunk! My problem now is that the top washer has perished so I’m getting a leak after reassembly. How do I know what size replacement washer to get, they seem to be 32 or 40mm but nothin seems to match those measurements exactly?

  • @mikes6844
    @mikes6844 Před 6 lety

    Neat plumbing job, if it bugs you that much, why don’t you cut the pipe and fit a straight joiner below the Y junction. My lad has a hair salon and I regularly have to clean the basin wastes from underneath and as you’ve demonstrated pliers are a must. Like the basin unit 👍🏻 Thanks for posting.

  • @cjlhessing
    @cjlhessing Před 5 lety

    the pipe from our sink goes down to the floorboard and then seems to take a 90 or 45 degree bend - under the floorboard - and this seems to be just where the blockage is on mine lol. I can take the p trap apart easy but the 75cm or so of vertical pipe is solvent welded after that onto that bend. Seems I'm screwed unless I can lift that floorboard somehow.

    I’ve tried a plunger, mr muscle, and even bought a tool from Amazon for unblocking drains none have worked, unfortunately I can’t even get the tool from Amazon down the pipe very far, how can I do this when I don’t have open space round the pipes like this video? The sink doesn’t just drain slow it doesn’t drain at all

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte Před 2 lety +1

      I've never heard of a trap having a ball in it as it's the water that creates the seal to prevent smells. Are you sure it didn't fall in there somehow?

    • @SashaStreams
      @SashaStreams Před 2 lety

      @@CharlieDIYte Thanks. Yeah, no idea how it would of got in there though. It's in the bin now anyway. No harm, no foul. Glad it's not needed. Thanks again :)

  • @amana1480
    @amana1480 Před 6 lety +2

    This is why a p-trap should be used wherever possible... p-traps rarely block....bottle traps should only be used if you can't fit a p-trap... I would have changed that bottle trap to a p-trap, because you have the space...think of a bottle trap as a compromise for a p-trap...

  • @normanboyes4983

    When I have been doing similar jobs (and much worse) people have said 'you should wear gloves' - I say listen - 'It may be shit to you - but it is bread and butter to me'. Thanks Charlie ;-) BTW it does show the trap has no real role in keeping the pipework downstream clean - which is kind of disappointing.

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte Před 6 lety

      Ha - love it! Thanks Norman. I agree, and I had another comment from a plumber useful who said the push operation plugs, nice though they look, do seem to gunk up more than standard ones.

      @normanboyes4983 Před 6 lety

  • @djmdot2434
    @djmdot2434 Před 4 lety

    How is it that the push plug is removed. I’m struggling to remove mine. There isn’t a link rod behind the pedestal sink. Also, I have a pedestal trap rather than a bottle trap. Is the principle the same ?

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte Před 4 lety

      My plug unscrews. Yes the principal should be the same with the pedestal trap, albeit more fiddly to get to and remove.
