The friction bezel, all GMTs from Rolex, Omega etc have friction bezels. It (and all the SRPs etc) are a "dive style watch", a swimming watch. You dislike this for being that you dislike the whole range. This is a swimming GMT for under 500 quid (just bought one for 270 quid). What's not to love? They are solid end links. Hamilton and Tissot gmts will cost you a fortune.
I’ve tried this watch and the blue and black bezel version of this watch on at a local jeweler. Owning a SKX009 to me it’s a no brainer . Definitely want to add at least one to my collection 👍🏻
Agreed! For a little bit more you can get the Glycine Combat Sub GMT with all upgraded specs, better movement, much slimmer, better bezel, bracelet, etc. I do think this Seiko GMT is over hyped.

With Seiko it's not about the features, it's always about the cost saving measures and we get short changed.
