I’d love to hear more videos similar to how tanks / healers scale through Wrath of the Lich King, and where some healers are stronger. As an example, I played Resto Druid through all of Wrath and they scaled great into ICC, but on the Lich King, Disc priests were king because of how their shielding interacted with Infest, trivializing the mechanic. Great content, cheers!

Yeah, THis video clearly misses how important Disc are. You can bump Shammy down and put Disc up to S tier. Disc is almost required for the 2nd half of of all of Wraith thru Ruby Sanctum. You HAVE to have disc for lich king. That alone should make it S tier.

Disc Priest always dominated even in fights not normally disc-priest centric. They would help teams when they would stop wipes before they even happened. If your A-team had a disc priest it had room to take an extra hit teams that didn't have a disc priest couldn't. Disc priests would make sure there was PWS on everyone. That means any deathblow automatically was a save in WROTLK.
Between that, the burst healing abilities, and that super mana-efficient heal you can cast while you're moving, the disc priest was a jack-of-all-trades healer that can (briefly) do group heals at a massive mana disadvantage, secure a main tank temporarily between pain suppression etc, and generally adapt to the environment. They were used as the extra healer you really needed but didn't have hence their reputation as a requirement for the hardest bosses.

im happy disc priest getting the recognition (might be biased as i main it). I genuinely feel like people pass it off as sub par holy substitute. It's not, it has never been and never will be. Shielding is fundamentally different from healing. Ofc, it doesn't help that the class identity changes every xpac (sometimes more than once an xpac). They're also a class that can really capitalise on Crit healing (Divine Aegis was probably one of the best things to ever be brought to Disc priests, especially in MoP, imo). So I am glad people feel the same way i do! I've no issue with Holy Priests - mind you. They're as needed as disc priests, but they're not identical specs

I'm sure your experience was this that Shaman, Druid and Paladin were top healers and Priests came second.
However, on both original WOTLK and Private servers I played Disc Priest Blood Elf, and doing things like 10man heroics. I never saw a paladin, druid, shaman or holy priest SOLO raid heal and keep tank alive on all fights in H TOC10 or H ICC10.
On a Disc Priest however, you can solo heal 10 man raids and 10 man heroics and keep your mana full as well.

@@Wizardi1111 Its a combination of protective abilities like shields, insane heals off of prayer of mending, fast cast times and a whole raft of utilities. I found Disc Priests even pushed to max healing, rarely if ever ran out of mana. That essentially made them stand out. Mana efficiency with total throughput and utilities made them amazing. Compared to other classes where i felt that other classes mana was the sticking point, they would eventually run out of mana before a Disc Priest would. That makes all the difference. A holy paladin, shaman, druid or h priest can possibly solo heal a lot of fights, but in longer fights they would be tapped out of mana whilst the disc priest would still be going.

(No, that Pserver wasnt massively bugged, Holypal is just highly overtuned in Wrath) Sure, I had all types of Trinkets and even Valanyr in my inventory for some fights but paladin is by far the most broken throughout the entire xpac. Discpriest only was needed on specific fights and was almost entirely useless when it came to heavy tankdamage fights (Except for their utility)

I respectfully disagree. I think in the majority of cases a d priest will contribute more to a raid than a shaman or druid. Most of my experience has come from private servers so maybe my info is skewed but I'd personally say h pally / d priest is the strongest healing combo in the game. We have to see what wotlk will bring us though. In short though one solid through healer and a healthy amount of shields for burst performs better than any other combination of healers paladins are by far the best healers. D priest is simply the most complimentary class to them.

Weird that the list is so different from Rugs' list. He puts HPal and Disc on S-tier, Tree on A-tier, and RSham+HPriest on B-Tier.
His ideal healer setup for a 25 man is 2 Hpal, 1 Disc, 1 Tree, and either a HPriest or an RSham.

  • @bighairycomputers
    @bighairycomputers Před 2 lety +6

I think you need to break down the tiers of raiding. Or even fights. At 0% Hellscream, resto druid is terrible on LK or LK HC. The raid healing is mostly breaking Infest. Which, due to their raid healing being HoTs, resto druids are terrible at doing. Unless you get a lucky Val'anyr proc, they have no mitigation to prevent the Infest from sticking in the first place, and the ticks aren't strong enough to out pace Infest's ramping damage until you get super geared and/or a higher Hellscream buff. Even using T8 4 piece, you just don't have the group burst healing you need to help. A second resto shammy is way more useful, or even a second Disco to keep 20+ members shielded and prevent Infest from ticking at all.
On most other fights, resto druids are at least good. On fights like Putricide or Valkyrs, where there's consistent slow burn raid damage, they are amazing. But resto druid generally won't be your go-to 10 man second healer. 10 man raids, holy pally + disco or resto shammy + disco is going to get you better mileage. With the exception of 10HC Putricide, where the extra energy from a resto druid on the abom will help immensely, and the raid damage again fits perfectly with the healing style of a resto.
So if you want a general tier list, I'd say Disco/Hpally/resto shammy as S tier. You will always want one, and for resto shammy two or even three in a 25 man team isn't bad. In 25HC, you need one of each. Holy priest is just redundant, and can't do anything another class can't do better. Tank healing, Hpally is better. Raid burst healing, resto shammy is better. Raid HoT healing, resto druid is better. Tank saving cd's, disco is better. Mitigation, disco is also better. Just use a second resto shaman, and you'll be happier. But they are more viable as a healer than a sub rogue is for DPS, so I'd say low B or high C. Resto druid, I'd say solid A, depending on how much weight you put into the LK fight compared to other fights. Their utter uselessness on LK and Saurfang is a big hit overall, especially with how much those fights are major gates to fight through. 3/12 in ICC is easy, and if you don't know the fights you stall out at DBS. But once your guild gets DBS down, you get to 6 or 7/12 easily that same week. And obviously the final Big Bad is the end goal. So if you value those fights significantly higher than the other bosses, than Resto Druid is B. If not, A.

    My 2 cents:
Paladin is the best healer overall. Strong, fast, focused healing that is replicated onto the tank and tons of cooldowns.
Disc priest is the only healer that can keep up with the Paladin, and is only worse because you can’t stack them due to weakened souls and overlapping shields.
Resto druid brings the most utility and AoE healing, but lacks in focused fast heals (tank healing). However, revitalize is invaluable on the DPS and spread-able with Wild growth/Rejuv spam. RD also heals FOREVER with Clearcasting procs going into Lifebloom for a free cast that pops for 500 mana returned to the Druid. If played properly, this lends some Innervates to your other healer(s).
Resto Shaman and Holy Priest are viable but don’t have a true strength like those above, though I’d rate resto sham over Holy priest mostly due to having Lust.
Best combo (2 healer team) is gonna be HPal + Disc or Resto Druid, depending on whether u want more true healing power or more utility/buffs.

Rejuv could basically counteract 6 pulses of a boss aoe damage (like on PP and BQL) where as PW:S could only do 3. And then bombing huge HL and CH on the tanks which then healed other people due to glyph and just how the spells works, was incredibly strong. Shielding should be 1 to pala, shamy and druid, cause the only shielding they can provide is with valanyr, but they need to acquire that, whilst priests can shield more, and in cata the absorption is a bit more balanced, as holy barely does any absorbing shields, maybe on tanks or to save someone and disc just overloaded with shields, the talent for crits and the bubbles.

What about dreamstate druid? :p jk
Anyhow, so there's a problem i see with some of the comments. "Druids don't heal that much" No, they really do, the problem is the nature of HoT's is that while the HoT's are rolling, they are mostly just overhealing.
This is where paladins shine because of the low cast reaction nature of it, they can effectively 'spot heal' the moment damage goes out where they know where the damage is and still tank heal. Even if paladin heals were weaker, the fact it's tank and spot healing on low cast times gives it SUCH a huge advantage, and further, it's mana efficiency. Every other class is either "AoE heal" or "single target spot heal" so they can't exactly capitalize on this huge bonus.
Wotlk is infamous for being a raid expansion where it's not 'everyone takes the damage all at once' like it is in more recent raid expansions, so AoE healers don't get to abuse circle of healing or chain heal like other expansions. This is undoubtedly the holy paladin's expansion (after sucking so hard in tbc)

I wouldn't recommend starting out with a hpally. Level and do dungeons in TBC classic...if you wanna try hpally. Better to learn it that way. Do not do a boost. You do not learn how to use your more rare spells properly that way.
      All the healers are good.
Since my guild would force me to spend epgp on offspec gear.
My heal set was always under geared. So I would play holy priest in heroic 10 man icc content. It had much more output for less gear.
So if you wanna try hpally. Do not do it to top meters. You also will be 100%responsible for a tank death.

One thing that kinda helps with certain classes is using dpe cast gear for the damage spells the do have. Since most Healers have a caster dps spec.
