Epiphone Inspired By Gibson Custom 1958 Korina Explorer Reissue - Is $1299 Too Much For An Epiphone?

  • In this video I showcase my recently acquired Epiphone Inspired Byy Gibson Explorer 1958 Korina Reissue. I found this guitar used at a good price and decided I would trade a couple of guitars I no longer needed or wanted for it, after falling in love with the looks and tone of this monstrous guitar. This particular model only weighs 6 pounds 14 ounces and sings like a bird. I was totally blown away with the tone as well as appearance. In the video I provide a full review and professionally recorded audio recording so you can see and hear what it sounds like. What do you think? Have Epihpone lost their mind for selling these guitars for $1299 retail? It certainly is a lot less expensive than the Gibson version that is $9999.99. For the money, I don't think you can find a much better looking and sounding guitar. I hope you enjoy the video. Please subscribe!

My first new guitar that I got in April 1986 is a Mathias Jabs sig Explorer. One of the first Gibson guitars to say “Custom Shop” on it. It has a Kahler though and that kills the value. But it was the 80’s, and that’s why I bought it. 😁

Great review! I WILL have one!.....at some point.. i just landed a deal on it's sister the Mighty Epiphone '58 reissue Korina V (!!) , it arrives in about 48h and i am JONESIN! Been immersed in the videos promoting theses two models and now i will just HAVE to get the explorer next.
I never thought i'd bother with any Epiphone guitars nothing against them, I just have found so many guitars from other brands that compare so well to the epiphones in spec and quality & for alot less $$$$ I didn't see the point, but these two reissue models are a lil bit special and are the guitars of my guitar dreams as a kid so Epiphone it IS!

I also put in a set of Custombuckers which I was going to put in another guitar but they went in this instead so its a bit closer to the Custom shop without the price. I’d say Epiphone has been upping their game…laurel or not. Korinas Explorer & V, DG335 and the new 59s (LP & 355 with custom buckers) are solid and more affordable than ones with Gibson written on the headstock.

I have the exact same guitar. But the knobs are black. Bought it from some kid, outside Mike's music in cincinnati. Paid him $300. I'm more of a strat guy.... So I put it on ebay. And then, the eBay bidding went through the roof, quickly. Got me to thinking.. maybe I should play it.. I couldn't put it down. It was so comfortable and, nice to play. Not like any of the other Gibsons I've ever owned. Took me a little while to figure out how to get the headstock from diving to the ground. But once I got a leather strap. I couldn't take it off... It's now my number two guitar, in my arsenal. I love my Explorer.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the case with it. I carried it around from gig to gig, for about 10 years. Without a case. I got one now though. Not quite as cool as that one. But, it totes the goat.
