65 and need it all !!! Not giving up anything!!!!!
Forties for me was a decade of confidence. I rarely wore make-up after a lifetime of struggling with acne. Fifties is another ball-game; Menopause rocked my world for a few years, then I came back to renewed glory. At 57, my make-up is basic; Wet-n-Wild tinted hydrator, Elf putty blush in Caribbean, Clinique Black Honey or Pink Honey for lips, taupe crease color and subtle pink shimmer for lid, brown tubing mascara, brown/navy/green shadow for liner on my small hooded brown eyes, also brow defining is a must.
That sounds so beautiful!!!😍 Thanks for sharing your routine!!!
If you don’t mind my asking, how long did it last for you total?
@@R.L.Maverick Menopause hit me at 50. I two years of intense hot flashes, weight gain and hair loss. Never did any hormone therapy. Was back to "normal" by 53.
I was thrilled to read you wear the Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator. It is the only foundation type product I reach for anymore!! Although the lightest shade is still too dark for my skin tone, so I have to mix it with a white corrector. And, I also use eyeshadow to use as eyeliner!
Gorgeous!
I just turned 40 and I spent my twenties and thirties thinking too much about what other people thought about my makeup. That’s the biggest thing I’m leaving behind. However I feel or choose to wear my makeup is how I’m going to do it. Whether I want to go more “glam”, “natural”, “no makeup” “color” “nude” I’m doing it unapologetically. Side note I actually loved your black eyeliner looks , it really showcased your blue eyes but I suppose in person it would be more harsh. Thanks for the therapy tip.
In my late 60s. I didn’t listen then & I’ve changed my look in mid 40s & again in my earlier 60s. I gotta go where the lines & spots take me. Too deep to fill in so lighter makeup makes for a better look. Color on cheeks & lip makes a big difference. We’re all beautiful at every age. Embrace it!!!!!
I’m 52 and my skin is just too dry for powder foundations. I wish I realized this before I bought my MAC studio! We have similar colouring and I’ve stopped wearing black eyeliner too unless I tight line but even then I often use brown or grey.
Could the Mac product be mixed with a bit of emollient skin cream ? Considering the cost of the powder foundation, it might be worth a try just so it doesn't sit in a drawer unused then get tossed out. I'd scrape a bit onto a mixing palette and blend in some eye cream or Nivea....something along those lines.
1. Black Eyeliner
2. Full Coverage Foundation
3. Glitter
4. Thick false lashes
5. Pale lipsticks
❤I love them all and am 42❤
I left 40 behind in my rear-view mirror decades ago, and in the following years I have given up black eyeliner AND black mascara. I'm a green-eyed, white-haired old lady and those make me look like a fright. Unfortunately, it becomes harder to buy mascara when you don't want black, although I will say that Pacifica's "black" is actually a deep gray, and can work on a pale older person. Right now I'm using Burt's Bees mascara in black/brown. Anyway, another thing I gave up is foundation; I now use Pacifica's Kind Tint tinted serum. (This sounds like an ad for Pacifica, but is not). I never did like concealer and will never buy it again now that I have lots of little "texture" on my face. Another thing that has become a no-no, unless it's for an evening out, is red lipstick. It just sends my look from "ordinary weekday" to "grande dame" in .5 seconds. I have to settle for very natural lip colors now; Milani's "Pretty Natural" and "Roleplay" are working well.
Essence just came out with a brown mascara that is a midtone brown, sounds good for someone wanting subtle definition.
Revlon has a plum brown mascara ---I have it and like it a lot.
How about the tinted eyebrow mascaras? They often come in lighter colours. Maybe they could work on lashes?
@@lookingatdaisies9901 It might not be eye safe though.
@@msr1116Will try it, thanks. Jane Iredale used to have a deep gray mascara, but I haven't seen it in a while.
My mother used to to say the worse she felt the more makeup she used. You feel comfortable in yourself. The less you feel you need
Mid 30s here! I’ve worn WAY less makeup now at this age. I’m focusing more on skincare and moisturizing. I make sure to use under eye cream and I feel like it is making a difference. I’ve also realized that I can’t just use any kind of makeup wipe because I’ve gotten eye infections because not all of the makeup was removed. Honest beauty wipes have been my new thing and it WORKS!
True! Glitter migrates everywhere! In lip gloss (Pat McGrath's,) eyeshadow (Natasha's) and blush. It just gets everywhere it's not supposed to be. Shimmer is a different story, that's okay.
I’m glad that you didn’t include shimmer in with the glitter! ✨
Have you heard of a product called Duraline? If you mix some of those “glitter” in with this product? It glides across your eyelids like butter 🧈
It will not accentuate your fine lines… and there’s no chance that the glitter will migrate…anywhere❣️❤️
I'm approaching 70. Pale lipstick makes me look like a corpse--not so great for old people.
Yes but dark lips does the same thing. I say a medium color instead of light or dark. Dark lips look like a corpse for real
So funny you say that cuz I’m almost 36 & I’ve spent my 30s healing, but also thriving at times & rlyyyy leaning into & growing my faith & personal relationship with God. I’m back in college working to be a licensed mental health counselor & that’s a dream I’ve wanted to chase for YEARS so I’m super proud. Cultivated a wonderful group of friends. Last year was pivotal for me. I 💜💜💜 your hair in this video, not even cuz it’s straight but the COLOR in particular is beautiful.
Blessings
I can wear black eyeliner even now, at 51. I'm light complected but if I put it mainly on the upper lash line, I'm good. Also, grey, charcoal and navy are options remnicient of black that aren't as stark, but have a similar vibe.
Yes - I'm 68 and won't give up my black liner. I have a mild health conditon that makes the whites of my eyes look a bit cloudy and the black eyeliner gives a bit of contrast. I just use light feathery strokes.
It means a lot to me to see a Christian CZcamsr recommend therapy - thank you Zabrena! ❤
I love this list of tips, too. I'm in my early 30s, but just stopped wearing heavy foundation after I realized it was just emphasizing textures in my skin (whoops). Right now I'm wearing Revlon Illuminance Foundation, it looks sooo much better. :)
Recently not contouring my eye crease and corner, just going with an all over wash to brighten up the area. It’s so much easier and appropriate since my eyes are getting more hooded as I age too. 🤗
I just started to wear makeup when I turned 49 and never could get into lashes but everything else....skies the limit 😅. I will wear any color on my eyes 😮 and my family is looking at me like I'm nuts.
I'm 37 and have started making tiny baby wings at the very end of my eyes and keeping the line above my lashes bare. I love a good winged liner but have gravitated more toward a thin barely there wing just to give a hint of lift. I also have started wearing super natural lashes. They just are more flattering than the big ones now 🩷
I would love to see some of your recommendations for foundations that aren’t full coverage! Especially ones that play well with spf! SPF is a MUST for me and so many lighter coverage foundations don’t play well with it 😵💫
Your hair looks gorgeous. I’m sorry you went through trauma. I can empathize and healing is a personal journey . I was never a false eyelashes person but I have purchased the Kiss impress no glue and wear them on outside corners. No glitter for me and can’t find a highlighter that doesn’t even have mica in it. As you get older less is more and more flattering ❤️
YES! Those KISS lashes have become my favorites too! I can see that about glitter on the face!
I didn't start wearing eyeliner until my late 40s. Black is okay, but I prefer the colored ones. Brown is nice.
I always wore a slate gray, navy or teal. I finally wore black eyeliner for the first time when I was 45. I m pale and I think it makes me look like a witch. 😂
@@pwallace5359 Some people can really rock it. I'm not one of them. There is a woman I know from church who has almost black hair. It looks stunning on her.
It can have that effect.😀😅😊@@pwallace5359
Yeah, sadly some products have to go for me as well.
Full coverage foundation too, because my skin has changed from oily to dry and heavy foundation makes me look like I'm cracking up like a dry desert XD
Highligher too, it seems out of place now given the dryness of the skin, so I only use it on the corners of my eyes and a dot on the tip and up on the bridge of my nose between the eyes. Maybe on my Cupid's bow.
The other thing I'm not feeling anymore is matte lipsticks, I'm just running away from anything that might emphasize dryness or the lines.
But there's one thing I didn't use before and now I feel it helps me look fresher, it's just a hint of concealer around the contour of my eyebrows because it kinda makes the whole face look more tidy and neat.
Heck yes! A friend once told me that skincare is the first step to makeup. I agree! After living in a desert for 7 years, I gave up on foundation and focused on skincare. I battled acne, acne scars, and sunspots. Now I'm in my 40s, and they're all gone.
Now I wear Covergirl's Clean Fresh Skin Milk. I add on a good cream blush, do my brows, pop on some shimmery eye shadow (Maybelline's nude glow is my favorite), and add on black mascara. I also have 2 kids so momma doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate to makeup. Plus, I want my girls to understand that makeup is to enhance not change the face. If someone can't appreciate your inner beauty, then they will not appreciate your outer beauty.
We could all stand to be more kind to one another 😊
I agree with all you said. There is a time and a place (and a someone) for all those things but in our 40s and 50s it isn't for everyone!
I was all for those matte liquid lipsticks a few years ago, but I finally decided just give me a good ol' Revlon satin bullet and I'm good. My lips dry so easily. Every once in a while I'm tempted, but I prefer something I can just swipe on like a lip balm
Turned 50 this year. Since my mid 40’s I've really focused on skincare so now, when I wear makeup, it's "French" (mascara and lipstick, maybe a little eye pencil). The only coverage I wear on my skin is tinted mineral sunscreen.
I feel like I don't even know how to put on makeup anymore.
Hi Zaberna, four products that I've left in my late 20s. Is setting spray, full coverage foundation compact powder foundation, lashes. Yep, moving on, there's more to life than staying with the same stuff.😅
About turn 56. Many tell me i look 40ish. Nonetheless, I've had to alter my makeup application a lot. A more full coverage concealer, a brown eye liner mostly, fell in love w Cliniques pallette, Pink Chocolate, increase placement of crease for hooded eyes and...the lips, the lips! Ugh, the super tiny fine lines; the bleeding! Chanel has a long wear lipstick w top coat, which is great for this.
If it's the same Channel lip product I use, it's a God send! Dry color on one end and a "gloss" on the other. Stays in place and no bleeding. Revlon Colorstay is the drugstore version.
@@nancychristie7567, Thx 4 the tip. 🙂
Same year, turining 54 this year, and yep look 40’ish😂 no more 30’s looking. Ah my body still in my 30’s , when i was personal trainet. So its hard to match all that lol The best thing i did for my lips is permanent makeup( tatoo) even i havent had refreshed now, for 4 years, my lips still are redish pink hue. Has crisp edges. No lip lines needed and prevented any lip lines, due to slight injusry during tatoo process. And i still wear lipstick or lip balms, mainly Chanel. And lipsticks keep better
I'm approaching my 50's and I am finding that less is more now for me so no more fully matte anything is working. I am enjoying the "no makeup" makeup look these days and I absolutely love the ease of it. I am spending more time in the skincare lane, love taking extra time there ❤️
Waterproof mascara has to go for me. Sadly as I have gotten older the lashes are thinning out and the mascara is hard to take off. And seems I lose a few each time haha. 😂
Me too! Tubing mascara has been such a blessing over waterproof
I turned 50 last summer & I have never used under eye concealer or bronzer. Fair skinned with auburn hair, I never thought bronzer complimented me. I am starting to get wrinkly under my eyes, so I'm not a fan of concealer either. I also use a tinted moisturizer on the daily. I'm lucky in that I rarely get breakouts, so I cover a blemish when necessary, but for the most part, I don't have to. & I've always been a fan of brown eyeliner.
Me too! I have so many bronzers I have unsuccessfully tried. I have pale olive skin and EVERY single one of them looks orange! And under eye concealer just isn’t flattering. I don’t have a lot of wrinkles yet, but if I wear concealer under my eye suddenly I look like I do. I do have a concealer I love to use as a foundation though. Lol.
I'm curious what tinted moisturizer you use. Most of them make my fair skin look orange.
@@catsandbats77 I use Colourpop Pretty Fresh in Fair 4N. I tried their lightest shade & it was actually too light. Fair 4N is perfect for my tone. Good luck!
I rare use bronzer either. I use my blush as bronzer on a daily basis.
@@angelafishburn7654 thank you. I'll check out their tinted moisturizers.
Amen to the 30's healing journey, im in it right now. I love your channel so much, you are such a warm and loving presence ❤ and you look so gorgeous! Your HAIR!
I turned 51 last month and I completely gave up on under eye concealer about a decade ago. I have spent a small fortune over the years trying to find one that disguised my puffy eye bags but they all make me look far worse. I use minimal foundation now, and almost never wear lipstick because a touch of lip balm looks fine. I do love my slightly grunge eye make up, even though my aging hooded eyes can't do winged liner any longer, but I have just adapted my application to work around that. That said I probably stay bare faced at least half of the week now 😊
You can still use that nude lipstick, just not alone. Put it on first then put some fuchsia in the middle and rub for the popsicle look (my fav), or use it as a highlight in the middle of your lower lip on a bright shade, or pair it with a stronger color liner.
Yours are great points. I definitely am leaving most foundations behind. I used some today but only on the mid-face. Have a great week.
I love your make up today! It’s light and fresh!
Really enjoying your messages lately. Thank you for sharing your perspective ❤️🌼
This is absolutely by far your BEST video! Thank you! ❤ Oh and you are SO beautiful!!
Never used bronzer, never contoured, never done lashes, never highlighted and i will only do semi shimmer on my eyes, never glitter, typically matte is my go to on everything
Me, too!
@@janpoorbaugh942 I hate things that bring out texture, ie shimmer, and I never saw the reason behind contouring, unless you have a horrendous nose and need it
Black eyeliner has always been too harsh on me so I agree with you about the brown (or other more subtle) eyeliner. I have the same problem with black mascara and false eyelashes, so I wish brown mascara and false eyelashes were easier to find. I might use a bit of eyeshadow under my eyes, but I'm done putting eyeliner or mascara there -- I don't like waterproof eye makeup and the other kind runs too easily so I'd rather just skip it. I agree with you about a nude lip -- I never understood the point and if I'm putting on lip color, I want to see it!
Great video. Very honest with lovely humour and humility. I agree with all the things you mentioned! Thanks, Zabrena 😘
I still wear black eye liner but it’s smudged & soft. So I guess it looks more gray. At 50 the things I’ve given up are glitter, thick, heavy, drying foundations that accentuate everything. I wear bb creams & skin tints instead. I still wear shimmer & even metallic shadows. Heavy contour & highlighters have gone out the window too. Dark lipstick has been eliminated too. It’s much more subtle now.
I still wear the black, smudgy liner too. It's not for every day, but if done correctly, it looks smokin'. Seriously. It's definitely a vibe. Gotta go careful though... There's a thin line between edgy and trashy. Hahahahahaha.
@@sandygoddard7478 definitely!!! It’s a very fine line!!! I’ve gone overboard a few times & it just makes me look really tired! 🤣😆😂
I'm with you on the pale lips. I'm super fair skinned, & I'm trying to add color to my face, not make it all one color of pale. I'm also avoiding matte lips as well. I've always had thinner lips - which are just going to get thinner as I get older - & glosses or stuff that has a glossy sheen to them is what I think I'm going to stick with from now on. Matte lip stuff just makes my lips look even thinner than they already are.
You can pry glitter from my cold, dead, hands. Even then, you better put it on my corpse before you bury me. 😂
Matte lipstick! Now that I'm in my 50's it just makes the lines in my lips stand out. Moisturizing lip glosses are the bomb!
I’m in my 60s and highlighter just isn’t working anymore for me even a lot of blush looks bad lately! As for lips I only use lipgloss in light shades now, and also I use serum foundation as well, no more full coverage for me!❤ love this video!
Not makeup, but I left behind uncomfortable shoes (in particular high heels). Life is too short to spend a single minute voluntarily walking around with your feet in pain!
Zabrena, you are such a beautiful, brilliant soul - outside and inside. ❤️ Thank you for this video. (I’ve just about thrown in the towel with concealers - as much as I really need it, OMG nothing seems to look good.)
…I love black eyeliner. I have done wings since I was 18, I love blush, I have never worn thick foundation, or big eyelashes. I think when I started wearing full makeup I made a point of not over dramatizing my makeup. I love nude lips- mostly soft mattes are my favorites. I started skincare at 15, sunblock at 17 (moles on face) and clean skin regimen. Basically all my changes have been in skincare. Not many wrinkles - yet. But I am now 72. And I won’t give up my makeup…ever. It makes me feel happy and better about myself. I don’t believe setting up age divisions for what I can or can’t wear on my face. And yes, blazing red lipsticks are my favorites 😂
I’m 58 and I can’t really say I’ve changed my makeup routine much in the last few years. I still love a full face of makeup!! I’ve come to realize that certain products may not look as good as they did in my younger years but I still use them! My obsession with makeup stems from loving it so very much growing up but not being able to afford it. I clearly remember having a hand me down bottle of the Covergirl foundation that smelled like Noxema, mostly empty, and filling it up with Jergens lotion to make it last!!! ❤❤❤
Maybe I’m alone here, but I never got in well with concealer and I find that as I get older, it makes fine lines look worse. I just like a little down my tear trail and I’m happy to tone it down that way. Shimmery, sparkly color shifting eyeshadow will never leave my world, but yes, no chunky glitter. I whole heartedly agree with everything you said. The natural looking face makeup looks so put together and pretty…. With an occasional spunky highlighter !
I'm 56 and I can't agree more, Z! I'm all about quick and easy, well groomed natural look these days, something that is forgiving and that looks great close up in daylight. It's true - older we get, less is truly more. I keep it simple and basic. Sin care is essential. Then, light, sheer skin-like serums or BB/CC creams to even out skin tone, moisturizing concealer under eyes, creamy textures for cheeks, lips and even eyes, no lip liner, more of a color stain, bitten lip look, fresh blusher, often lipstick doubles as a blusher, what goes on the cheeks or lips usually goes on eyelids too - touch of blusher or a lipstick. No shadows, unless I go for smoky eye. And no pale nude lipsticks. Fresh color on the lips, with certain saturation level, gives well rested, fresh and youthful look to the face. I don't contour, I don't do harsh eyebrows or eyeliner. Taupe, brown, bronze, grey, navy-grey look great. Berry tones for lips and cheeks, or healthy pinks and peaches. No long wear matte foundations, no baking, no setting powders. No powders, unless it's a bronzer and that in very small amount as monochromatic one and done look (cheeks, eyelids).
What become a must for me at this stage of my life: Natural looking lashes - lash perm (lift) and dying helps a lot and looks way better than extensions on aging eyes. Make sure you find really good technician. It's essential. Helps a lot with looking put together around the clock without mascara, especially if you have sensitive eyes or can't deal with it during the day (humidity, lifestyle, etc.). XOXO
Most people don't have the level of contrast and, most importantly, brightness in their skin that can support black eyeliner. I'm Brazilian, I'm young, tan skin, super dark hair, I surely don't lack contrast, and still, I really do look garish with black eyeliner. Because my skin tone lacks intensity, gray looks so much more harmonious. I've also never been able to wear foundation, I just mix a tiny bit of concealer with moisturizer and primer and it looks so smooth and natural, I feel like the vast majority of foundations just make the skin look older in person, even if you're just 17. And I really must say, that lip colour looks so, so gorgeous on you!
I am so with you on this video🤦🏽♀️…I used to be obsessed with makeup…all the new and beautiful…the more the better. I believe my overload of purchasing literally established retirement funds for Bergdorf/Ulta/Saks Beauty Consultants back in NYC😁. Last year when I turned 65, I sold my house, moved from NYC (after 28 years) and downsized to a one story Condominium in the South. During that packing process, I must’ve declutterred over $2500 in makeup and skincare that I decided simply was too cumbersome at this point. I kept the essentials and it allows me to discover more minimalist products. My skin has never felt more “alive and free.”
Hi Zabrena, one product I have to use now is waterproof mascara, rather than regular kind, with hot flushes, sweating , if the mascara is regular i will look like raccoon eyes/ partied too hard real quick when I am in the middle of having a hot flush, and lipgloss over liquid lipstick, the lipgloss gives me a appearance of fuller lips, Zabrena I really enjoyed watching this video , thank you. Love Katherine xoxo
I just turned 55, and I only use black eyeliner right under my lashes to help make my lashes look a little fuller. I will use navy, plum, brown, gray, or a dark shadow to line right above my lashes. I have never liked full coverage foundations. Light to medium is good for me, or a good CC tint makes me happy.
I am in my very early '50s and the one thing I wish I could do is wear BB or CC creams but because I have hyperpigmentation, prominently displayed on one cheek and above my lips, (looks like a mustache shadow) I can't bring myself to do it. I envy women who have great skin; I take care of what I have I just wish the hyperpigmentation was gone so I could be a little freer
I am with you on the black liner, glitter, & full coverage concealer! I am loving a more “French” makeup style as I age. I don’t wear lashes, I am blessed with great natural ones, and I still wear nude lipsticks, but try to be brave and have added a few bold colour my collection.
Thanks for all of your hard work! I just love your videos!
I’m nearing 70, and for me - less of everything! It’s not that I’ve given up and don’t care anymore, but a full face of products no longer serves me well.
I had to change the colors, lighter, no strong colors on cheeks, and a lipstick that has combo brown with so red. All lipsticks turn colors on me. And do I have a collection, and I am warmed skin toned and its almost impossible to find a good lip color. But I think I will try the more modest eyelashes just for kicks
So glad you are finally dumping the black eyeliner!
LOL Well, live and learn right?
@@Zabrename too, glad u stopped, looks way too harsh in the waterline on your pale skin and blue eyes
I'm a ghostly pale blonde in my early 40s. Since I developed rosacea, I've basically had to give up on most makeup altogether. My skin was stupidly sensitive before, but now...lordy, just about anything sets it off. So most days, the only products I use are skincare and sunscreen. On the rare occasion I wear makeup, it's a light application of tinted moisturizer, any major spots covered by concealer, a little bit of blush, tinted lip balm, and tubing mascara (the kind you have to remove with warm water specifically).
For me with black it's the other way around. I got professionally draped, in person, and discovered I'm a bright winter, and not a warm season like I believed for a long time, and actually adding black, in artful ways, combined with shiny and bright colors has really helped me look better! However, I'm with you 100% on the full coverage! I tried when I was young, as I had terrible acne, but it always felt horrible on my skin. And, being an athlete, often working out 2.5 hours a day, full coverage really doesn't feel great when you're sweating your face off! I often don't even wear BB or CC cream. I will use primer and a corrector, but other than that, just a translucent powder for coverage, to prevent the shine where I don't intend to shine.
I still use full coverage foundation because my skin is still so blotchy. 🙄 And at 56, I am still acne and breakout prone. For gosh sake's! 😂
A medium lip is really important. That lipless look is not flattering.
I have always gone easy on eyeshadow, since I have always had down turned, hooded eyes and glasses. A little fixing spray on the brush works wonders!
I'm very cautious about highlights these days as texture is an issue. And lining the lips has become a must! Dark brown liner and mascara has always been my go to.
I'm enjoying cream blush more than ever, and super duper *fine powder is a must. Currently loving WnW Photo focus, and saving up to splurge on the G Prisme.
Other newish must have is a lip mask.
You’re so gorgeous! 💜✝️ you’re the only beauty CZcamsr I watch anymore
Thank you for the transparency in your videos but especially this one!
Yes, I am only entering my 30s but I highly resonate with the foundation thing. With the rise of skincare knowledge and increasing availability and effectiveness of skincare nowadays, I find many of us are regaining the confidence to show our skin and use lighter makeup, at least for daily use.
I have struggled severely, on an emotional and confidence level because of teenage acne, it wasn't as bad as others, but it still left me in a bad emotional state when going out and with my knowledge and dedication to skin-care I am more confident than ever to leave the full-coverage for special occasions only!
16yr old me would be so happy and relieved to know I finally got to a place where my skin is actually good and I'm confident about it just 10 years later. I know I always doubted I'd ever get to where I am today.
There was a time when Luminoso was THE Blush for me but at 65 l have kissed it farewell with fond memories of how much l loved it and Dolce Pink ! Now a more natural shade of a matte blush works much better ! Kissed the sparkles goodbye so l myself could truly shine !
In my early 40’s. No more:
Matte, full coverage foundation
Powder blush
Glitter/shimmer eye shadow
Dark shadows
Matte lips
The makeup item I’ve given up is powered make ups of any kind: no more powder foundation, powdered eyeshadow or eyebrow powders. I might use a setting powder on occasion but that is very rare for me now. I’m all in with liquid foundation as well as cream eyeshadows and blush.
I'm 42 and it's been a year since I've ditched lower lash mascara. Now my undereyes look so much brighter and rested and my eyes more lifted. No more worrying about smudges either. A cream colour liner in the waterline helps a lot too.
Yes, I agree with nearly everything you listed. I’m 50. I can’t wear heavy foundation anymore, I now gravitate towards very light ones that unifies my skin tone. I haven’t ware blank eyeliners in years. Shimmer eyeshadow ONLY in my mobile eyelid otherwise I look ten year older. I don’t wear fake eyelashes. I have only do so a couple of time for big occasions, I prefer to wear only my mascara. I love my lipsticks with colour in them, I feel that they give me life. It was even the only make up product Queen Elizabeth wore in her older years. So, I’m more or less with you in this. Big hugs to you xx
Hi Zabrena I just want to say that I think you look especially beautiful today. The softer makeup around your eyes combined with the rosy lip is so flattering. As far as what I don't wear anymore (56) I don't do full coverage lipstick. Tinted glosses and hydrating balms all the way.
You are beautiful in any look you wear! I am finding a lot of shadow can close up my eyes. Hugs!
I'm 64, and I've never understood liquid eyeliners. Or any kind of liner in black. No waterlining, tightlining, or that frosty smudge in the tear duct corners. No false eyelashes or fake nails. My natural nails are ok with just a clear or sheer pink polish. No liquid lips or glosses. No more traditional liquid or cream foundations; I use tinted mineral SPF with a bit of mineral powder foundation well buffed in over top. No liquid blushes; stick or cream formulas with a little powder blush on top are much less scary. No alcohol in my setting sprays. Anything else I haven't thought of, I don't need. Thanks Zabrena!
Definitely said goodbye to metallic/glitter eyeshadow as well as any blush/highlighter with glitter. I tend to focus on my skin more, so a light hand with makeup is all I need. I've also added bright lipstick....nudes wash me out.
So glad you’re at a happy point in your life. Therapy is very helpful. I enjoy your videos a lot even though our ages, skin color and type couldn’t be further apart. Judging by the comments you have quite a few followers in my age group. I’n 78 and my lifelong oily and acne prone skin has turned a lot dryer in the last few years. I mostly use med. coverage foundation with a satin finish for dry/ combo skin. If I apply with a sponge I can get lighter coverage if needed. Dewy or moisturizing foundations/tints over my skin care products really emphasize my texture and the wrinkles around my eyes and my mouth. I look like death warmed over without blush and a colorful lipstick. Matte lipsticks are definitely out. I gave up on contouring except for my nose but I do use bronzer on occasion. Glitter anywhere is out although I might add a touch of a shimmery (no glitter specks) eyeshadow to a small area of my eyelids. Gravity has taken big effect on the skin above my eyelid crease. It’s puffy and droopy at the same time. I’ve found that putting a neutral medium shade eyeshadow on that area makes the puffiness seem to recede and evens out the look of my eye socket. Winged eyeliner is also a thing of the past due to wrinkles. I use a brown waterproof eyeliner (Milani is fool-proof) for my upper lids. I use it for tightlining as well. My big challenge is finding a mascara that lengthens and volumizes yet keeps my eyelash-curled lashes from drooping. I bought several modest false eyelashes from Ardelle & Kiss but need to practice putting them on. Better eyesight & dexterity would definitely help.
I don't do any of those! I'm 60 lol however are you talking glitter or shimmer shawdows? Cause I love those lol and while maybe not completely nude I do trend to lighter bronws pinks and peaches lol
I’m 76 with white hair, but brows and lashes are still dark brown. I still use black liner and mascara, but the liner is a much thinner line -usually tight lining. Still like a shimmer on the lids, but don’t use highlighter on the cheek bones. Foundation depends on the occasion, weather and need for longevity. I don’t use concealer as I’ve never found one that concealed the dark circles that didn’t emphasize the puffiness.
My 40s & 50s were fabulous and I'm looking forward to my 60s! Now that I am closing in on 61, I have to admit going a bit easier on the foundation is more of a necessity. I'm trying to age gracefully and have resisted any injectables, thus far. So to mitigate the foundation migrating into lines & wrinkles, I've been going a bit more easy-handed on the foundation and I do think it looks a bit better. Since I start work at 630a and am not directly working with the public, no eye shadow is making it easier to get ready in the mornings - it's easy for me since I'm blessed with built-in creases and don't have to worry about trying to make it appear like I have a crease! I do use black eyeliner when I tight line, use a lighter lower eye liner and some black mascara and that about does it for the eyes. It's enabled me to get out the door pretty quickly and I still look pulled-together, too! Great video Zabrena!!!
I love brown or purple eyeliner on my green eyes. Black is so very harsh on me. I never really did full coverage foundation. I have freckles all over and full coverage just looked even more mask like on me. I work at Hobby Lobby, so I can get glitter all over just walking certain departments....it floats in the air.
My eyes are way more hooded in my late 40’s. So I switch the position of the lid shade and the outer 1/3 deep shade. It really opens up the eye. I still love glitter on my eyes sometimes.
Agree so much with less is more and also grew a dislike for glitter as I grew older (51 in March! 😳)
I say shimmer not glitter lol! Love your channel Zabrena, always brings a smile! 😊😊
I totally agree with your foundation approach. I didn't want to toss a couple high-end products that make my skin look beautiful so now I dilute them with a drop of squalene and apply less. Can't stop using shimmer shadows so I place it strategically as a thick eyeliner over a well-matched matte. Seems toned down but I still have a bit of sparkle. Good video subject. Thank you!😊
Hello, great video. And yes, as we age, the way we put on makeup changes. I'm 55, I love makeup but I don't wear makeup anymore like I did when I was 20 or 30. No more black, no more nude on my lips. I favor complexion, blush, strong lipstick, and lighter eyes💗💗💗
I'm 42 and recently started wearing more makeup. I realized I have a need for lip liner and developed hormonal acne so stared to wear foundation. It's been a journey trying to find a foundation for dry, sensitive and acne prone skin.
Co-vid was the best thing ever for my skin. After that, I gave up foundation, but, honey, I don't think I will ever give up glitter on my eyes! 😅 My eye makeup gets a lot of attention, but my face is quite basic with a little blush and powder; rarely using concealer. Love, peace, and joy to you! 💙 (I am in my mid-50s now.)
For me (at 50) it's about making adjustments to make the things I like work for me. Like foundation, I like a full coverage but lightweight-satin finish. I LOVE sparkle, so instead of full-on glitter, I like a micro-glitter sparkle you get from Natasha Denona. For lashes, you'll have to pry Ardell demi-whispies faux mink lashes from my cold dead hands.
Ironically, I added foundation in my 40's! I didn't much use it before that, but now it's totally concealer and full foundation! I only use eyelashes for rare cosplay. They annoy me. Love hearing your list! Thank you for sharing!
I just have to thank you for sharing your success story with therapy. I can also say that it worked so well for me to overcome childhood trauma. My hope is that people know they do not have to suffer, there are wonderful therapists out there who can share tools for how to cope with whatever you are going through.💞
As for makeup in my 60's, my makeup use has changed so dramatically. I don't wear makeup every day. except for a little concealer, brow pencil and lip gloss. When I do wear makeup, I use the Wet in Wild Tinted Hydrator, the NYX Bare With Me concealer, and a tiny bit of powder- the Elf Halo Glow powder. I wear glasses now, and I have finally realized that no one can really see my eyes. So I use an eye primer, then dust my eyelids with powder and call it a day. For special occasions I will wear brown eyeliner and brown mascara. As for lips, the skies are the limit for me..... I love all kinds of lip products.... but mostly I apply a lipstick with a little gloss on top. I will admit I wore full coverage foundations for YEARS!!
I still use full coverage foundation even in my early 40s for stage makeup. Every day, no but on stage and under lights yes, absolutely.
I’m in my late 40’s. I was never big on foundation, but wore it because that was what my friends were wearing. I’m pretty pale so shade matching was also difficult. In the last 10 years, I either wear tinted moisturizer, bb creams, etc. or I go without anything. I also never used black eyeliner really. Every time I wore it, it looked harsh. I have been using the brown eyeshadow sticks from ELF and I like how they look on my crepey eyes. Also, because of that, I don’t use glitter eyeshadow or shimmer eyeshadow anymore. I tried every eyeshadow primer and it ended up creasing or transferring.
I've never been able to find a "nude" lip color to suit my skin, just looked like death with every effort, blech. I did finally find a lippy that is my lips but better, plus, it's fragrance free, Revlon Plumalicious. All the pics online look purple but it's much closer to Clinique Black Honey which looks good too. The best thing about finding the me but better lippies, they work well as blush too.
Gave up on foundation long ago, but don't mind a tiny bit of the Loreal 4n1 balm buffed into the middle of my face. Gray eyeliner brushed up into my upper lash line was a game changer for me, but navy or dk brown work too.
I’m 43 and in the past 2 years i’ve left behind the black eyeliner on my waterline, full coverage foundation and powder.
I think style, trends, and maturity play a lot into it. Also, products have improved tremendously and they are more accessible. You skills also develop. I'm 52 and wear whatever strikes my fancy😂
Hi Zabrena! Great video! Dry, matte lipstick for me!❤😊
As I am in my early 50 's the big no -no is a matte foundation, anything that is giving me some glow, my skin will appreciate it.😊
Yesss!!! At 43, I definitely have given up some of my 20s and 30s ride or die products because they just aren't giving me the same results. 1. Strong, thick wing liner. 2. Aggressive contouring. 3. Mostly all powder products! I'm in my "everything cream" Era. 5. Baking 6. Matte lipsticks.
Nailed it! I ditched everything you said except the nude lip😂 I do however always throw a gloss with some pink over it so it's not too nude
Any matt lipstick, black mascara, and black eyeliner. I was amazed at how much black mascara ages me, so I have since switched to brown which looks much better. Overall, any look you like, and makes you look great, go for it!
Green eyeliners are my fav!
I love your lip shape! -- It was something I thought initially as a first impression and then as the video progressed, you mentioned the pale lipsticks so just saying! lol
